The Wizarding Examinations Authority is a group of wizards and witches who examine students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during their O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. examinations. The Wizarding Examinations Authority also verifies the results for the W.O.M.B.A.T. tests.[1]
It is a part of the Division for Magical Education in the Ministry of Magic.
History
The head of the Wizarding Examinations Authority is Griselda Marchbanks. It is known that there is a large group who travels to Hogwarts every year, exhausted from their journey, that is received by the headmaster. Apart from Griselda Marchbanks, the only other known member of the examiners is Professor Tofty.
The theory portion of the O.W.L. test is proctored by Hogwarts staff members (Flitwick administered the Defence Against the Dark Arts exam in the 1970s, while McGonagall proctored the Charms O.W.L. for Harry Potter's class).
Draco Malfoy claims that when it comes to the O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. Wizarding Examinations Authority, it is "not what you know, it's who you know." It is unknown whether Draco actually got his O.W.L.s because he knew the Authorities.
They are also noted to charm papers with the Anti-Cheating spell and provide Anti-Cheating Quills to students taking examinations.
