These letters were responses to Rita Skeeter's article "Harry Potter's Secret Heartache". Many of these letters were rude, and Hermione was advised to simply burn them after receiving them, by Hagrid, who had received similar, but harsher letters after the publication of Rita Skeeter's article "Dumbledore's Giant Mistake". The mail was delivered by a grey owl, a Tawny Owl, a Brown Owl and four Barn Owls. Hermione chose to open the grey owl's letter first.[1]
Contents
Letter one
YOU ARE A WICKED GIRL. HARRY POTTER DESERVES BETTER. GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM MUGGLE.
Letter two
Harry Potter can do much better than the likes of you…
Letter three
You deserve to be boiled in frog spawn…
Letter four
This letter's contents were unknown (if there was even a letter inside), but the envelope contained undiluted bubotuber pus, which spattered her, causing Hermione to leave the Great Hall and seek medical attention at the hospital wing.
Letter five
I read in Witch Weekly about how you are playing Harry Potter false and that boy has had enough hardship and I will be sending you a curse by next post as soon as I can find a big enough envelope.
Unidentified letters
Several Howlers that "shrieked insults...for the whole Hall to hear". The remainder that were not Howlers were simply left unopened and possibly burned.
