There were Wild Ponies in the New Forest in Hampshire, England.[1]
In Marauding with Monsters, Gilderoy Lockhart wrote about his adventures in the New Forest in search of the Wild Ponies, though he ended up finding (and defeating) a Gytrash colony instead.[1] The veracity of these events is doubtful, given Lockhart's theft of other people's achievements.
