A wand weigher is a brass instrument used to identify a wand's length, core material, and the length of time it has been used. One of these devices sits at the Security Desk in the Ministry of Magic Atrium. When a visitor enters the Ministry, they have to register their wand at the Security Desk, and this instrument is used. The wand is placed upon the brass scale and a slip of parchment with the wand's specifications comes out of the machine. Eric Munch was the Security Guard who used the instrument when Harry Potter visited the Ministry in 1995. It is unknown if it survived the Duel in the Ministry Atrium as the Security Desk was set afire when hit with a Killing Curse.
