A wand weigher was a brass instrument used to identify a wand's length, core material, and the length of time it has been used. One of these devices sits at the Security Desk in the Ministry of Magic Atrium. When a visitor enters the Ministry, they have to register their wand at the Security Desk, and this instrument is used. The wand is placed upon the brass scale and a slip of parchment with the wand's specifications comes out of the machine.Eric Munch was the Security Guard who used the instrument when Harry Potter visited the Ministry in 1995.
