Vitriol (an historical name for sulfuric acid, or H2SO4) is a highly corrosive acid. It is a colourless to slightly yellow viscous liquid which is soluble in water at all concentrations.[1]

Among its many uses, Vitriol is used for its magical properties as a component of Belch Powder (two pounds of the substance, in the apothecaries' system of weights, are required),[2][3]
