Violetta Black (née Bulstrode) was a pure-blood witch, the wife of Cygnus Black II, and the mother of Pollux, Cassiopeia, Marius, and Dorea^[2]. She may be related to Millicent Bulstrode.

Etymology

Violetta is a version of the name Violet, derived from the flower. It was the stage name of a German-born circus performer born without legs or arms who was well-known during the 1920s. The name Violetta could also be meant to mean violent or violence.

Behind the scenes

Violetta is the great-grandmother of Narcissa Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black, Andromeda Tonks, and Regulus Black, the great-great-grandmother of Nymphadora Lupin and Draco Malfoy, and the great-great-great-grandmother of Teddy Lupin and Scorpius Malfoy.

If Dorea (Violetta's second daughter) is the mother of James Potter I, then Violetta is the (maternal) grandmother of James, the grandmother-in-law of Lily Evans, and the great-grandmother of Harry Potter, the great-grandmother-in-law of Ginny Weasley, and the great-great-grandmother of James Potter II, Albus Potter, and Lily Potter.
