- "And if wishes grew on trees, life would be a breeze. Please pester someone else!"
- —Viridian's portrait, refusing to open to Harry Potter[src]
Professor Vindictus Viridian was the author of Curses and Counter-Curses. [1] Viridian was immortalized on a portrait hung at Hogwarts Castle. By 1995, his portrait was hung in the Grand Staircase. This portrait hid the entrance to the Room of Rewards. He was frequently irked on all the rush and hurry of the students' school life. In order to gain entry to the Room of Rewards, Harry Potter threatened to convince Moaning Myrtle to haunt the landing where the portrait hung. Disliking Myrtle, the vexed portrait let Harry through. [2]
[edit] Behind the scenes
- On the cover of his book, he was given the title "Professor," but it is unknown at which wizarding school, if any, he taught. This can be, however, just a title.
- Viridian may have passed away sometime prior to 1993 as many portraits hung at Hogwarts Castle depict deceased individuals.
- The name Vindictus is derived from the Latin vindicta ("revenge") and the surname Viridian from the Latin viridis ("green").
