Vernon Dursley had his own office on the ninth floor of the drill company known as Grunnings. The office had a window, but he always sat with his back to it. The office also possessed at least one telephone, which he used make calls that he considered to be important and shout.[1]

In November of 1981, Vernon arrived at Grunnings and proceeded directly to his office. There, he forgot about the owls and odd behaviour he had seen that morning and proceeded to yell at people and make telephone calls. He then left the office to purchase a doughnut at a bakery, and had a very odd encounter. He hurried back to his office and considered dialling home, but thought better of it. He left the office at five o'clock.[1]
