If one draws out the casting (saying the incantation slowly and waving the wand in a circle overhead), aiming for thin air above the caster then an orb of red light will be thrown skywards from the wand tip like a flare, exploding several metres away in a blinding flash and illuminating the entire room for a short period of time. While the light from the spell fills the room, objects hidden by Dark magic will be revealed so that they are temporarily visible and tangible again (as the light fades, so do the Dark objects).<ref>[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlaoB8mVFNs&feature=related Exercise in using Verdimillious Duo to uncover dark objects]</ref> This is the red form.

"Now, Harry, cast a fully-charged Verdimillious Duo Spell. Once cast, the spell will show you objects hidden by dark magic. Use what you find to leave the room!"
Professor Lockhart to Harry Potter[src]

The Verdimillious Duo Spell (Verdimillious) was a charm that emitted green sparks from the tip of the wand. It was a more powerful version of the Verdimillious Charm. It held a number of useful purposes and was rather easy to cast.[1]

History

VerdimilliousCoS

Harry Potter casting the spell in the Forbidden Forest

Professor Quirinus Quirrell taught this charm to his first-year Defence Against the Dark Arts class in the 1991–1992 school year along with the Verdimillious Charm and Verdimillious Tria.[3] Professor Gilderoy Lockhart later revised it with his second-year Defence Against the Dark Arts class the next year.[1]

Effects

The Verdimillious Duo Spell created green sparks that had multiple uses. One such use was to do damage to an opponent, hence proving very useful in duelling.[1][2]

These green sparks could also be used reveal objects hidden by Dark Magic in a blinding flash of white light, thereby illuminating the entire room for a short time. Unlike its precursor, objects revealed by The Verdimillious Duo Spell remained tangible and visible even after the light faded. Nonetheless, green sparks would still be floating around the enchanted objects for a while after the light disappeared.[1]

Practitioners

Etymology

This incantation is most likely derived from Latin "viridis", meaning "green" and French "mille", meaning "a thousand". The modifier "duo" means "two" and is common in incantations of increasing power.
