A Vampyr Mosp was a fanged wasp-moth magical hybrid.[1]
Description[]
They were giant, aggressive insects who would try to sting any individual they came into close contact with; the effect of these stings could be quite painful to the victim. They were very attracted by the smell of certain flowers.[1]
There were two known kinds of Vampyr Mosps, the Purple Vampyr Mosp and the Red Vampyre Mosp. The Purple variants were usually less aggressive than Red variants.[1]
They may have been native to Scotland, in wet places; Hogwarts had a reasonable amount of them in the sewers and pipes, and in the Herbology Greenhouses.[1] Many also inhabited large hives in the Forbidden Forest.[2]
History[]
In the 1990–1991 school year, while doing research on magical creatures to try to identify the creature that had attacked Dolores Umbridge and Ismelda Murk in Hogsmeade, Jacob's sibling and Liz Tuttle read about Vampyr Mosps.[3]
