Note to admins

Dear Admins,

I don't know who is doing what and who is still active here so I am sending this to all of you. There are a few users, mainly BachLynn23 and Rodolphus that keep changing pages here with untrue facts. I have amended the Slytherin Quidditch Team page with the info that there are no female players, as Rowling states so a few times in her books and in several interviews, on the team. I also took out the spoof names in the list on the right hand side.

Two minutes later that Rodolphus changed it, I corrected it, the user changed it. It is not right that fans and those seeking correct information get mislead on here with names that were created in a fanfiction or the users own mind and may think it happened making a fool of themselves with other fans during discussions.

I have messaged the user and asked to please stop but they did not react and just amended it again. Even putting on some of the pages "Spoof only" but this has now been taken out by BachLynn23.

Maybe you can make sure the page is correct and then have it so that no one can edit it anymore, or do something about this? I am a Harry Potter expert and know every fact that is given us from the books and the great athors interviews therefore I don't really think it is nice to have false information and made up people on here.

I hope you can take care of this in one way or another as I won't continue editing as I am not in kindergarten or pre-school and most certainly those users appear to be as they re-edit true information with false and misleading information.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chaser85 (talkcontribs) 14:36, January 15, 2011.

New Community Council

So I just finished with the first Wikia Community Council meeting, and apparently, a small group of people have been chosen for it, it's to talk about changes, new things, problems, etc. We'll get to test new features as they come out. It's going to meet once a month, and will have a wikia page I'll be a part of to communicate between meetings. So, that being said, if there is anything you would like me to bring to a meeting, problems you've had, ideas, etc. Please let me know. They've started this as a trial, a way to communicate more with the members of wikia. --BachLynnGryffindorcrest(Accio!) 02:20, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Starstuff,

I'm on the wikia staff and wanted to reach out. With Deathly Hallows 2 approaching, we'd like to help engage users on the wiki. Among some of our internal thoughts for doing this are:

  • Giving the main page a new background. Just to change things up a bit and keep the look fresh.
  • Changing the Quote of the Week to a random quote generator that will automatically keep the quotes updated.
  • Categorising all pages. Using and/or deleting some of the 1,000 photos that are not being used.
  • Adding more content to the Daily Prophet News page (such as the recently released HP DH 2 online game).
  • Reaching out to more affiliates to get more links set up which will help with Google ranks and bring more traffic to the wiki.
  • Creating a Deathly Hallows 2 Reviewer page and perhaps another giveaway contest.
  • Finally, we'd love you and the other admis to start thinking of ways to keep the wiki active post final film. We can all hopefully brainstorm on this in the near future.

We hope you and the other admins (who I am also contacting) will be receptive to some of this. Let me know your thoughts...

Voting issues

Voting is in progress for new infobox pics for Gellert Grindelwald and Fleur Delacour. There's only a couple days left before they both close, so be sure to weigh in for your favorite.

We're also WAY behind on some of our featured content, especially the QOTW's and DYK's, so if you've got a couple of minutes, drop in and voice your opinions on any you like or dislike, and maybe we can get some of the backlog cleared out.

Thanks. - Nick O'Demus 09:05, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Starstuff, Nick O'Demus said that you run the House Points game. When will it re-start? Thanks, Head.Boy.Hog (Talk To Me) 12:19, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Ignotus Peverell's grave

Hello there, Starstuff! Currently, the only reference we have for Ignotus Peverell's birth and death dates is "Harry Potter Film Wizardry", but it would be great if we had a picture to prove it. Can you upload an image? Thanks. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 13:16, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Hello Starstuff

I am D.Richards and a new member at this great wiki of Harry Potter.I truly like the shows and its books and have joined this site.I'm just asking 1 question. Is it possible for me to edit in some pages? Like to add in more pictures? Thank you and I would be most appreciated if you sent a reply. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by D.Richards (talkcontribs) 13:36, June 20, 2011.

RE: House Points Game

That could work. One thing that's been tough to keep up with recently is all the new pictures that some users keep adding to articles related to DH: Part 2. In some cases, the articles are getting extremely cluttered because of it. I even added a line to the Layout Guide that "images should be placed before or after paragraphs or sections of text, not right in the middle of them", because it's been happening so often (even right in the middle of words, and it's still happening all too often). I think there definitely needs to be some more focus on cleaning up and improving existing articles.

I've also tried to bring back the discussion on the Forum:Merging Articles on Unidentified Characters. El Profeta Vespertino has expressed some interest in making it work. I'm hoping to have more free time in July to devote some attention to this myself. Between work and looking for a new car, I haven't had as much time for editing recently.

I also set up a Wizard's Chess game at the Hogwarts Roleplay Wiki, but no one's used it yet. : (

Thank you so much for your warm greeting. I hope that we can be friends and that your live is as wonderful as Harry Potter's but that it doesn't cause too much danger for you.

Hello again Starstuff,

I was just wondering how you put userboxes on your userpage. I am unable to figure it out and I was also wondering how you enter the House Points game.

Violetpotter 23:32, July 9, 2011 (UTC)

Hello Starstuff,

My friend has an account and she entered for a chance to win a trip for 4 to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Orlando Studios. I would also like to enter and I was just wondering if you could let me know how to get to the page because I am unable to find it.

Thank you,

Mark Orr Page Steve Mckeown Page, and Nassim Mekarnia Page

I believe that the two pages: Mark Orr and Steve Mckeown created by a wikia contributer are not needed, and perhaps you can help delete the fanon. Also along with them the Nassim Mekarnia Page which is Fanon stating it as another character maybe you can see that too. Good Luck with all! - THE ONE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED Owl Me.

Your picture of Lavander Brown is incorrect, she was never portayed as a black woman.

Listen, are you the site manager?

Re: Transfiguration articles

Funny, I was just about to owl you.

Anyway, I wasn't being a vandal (well I wasn't trying to anyway), far from it. The thing is, the current classification for transfiguration appears to be mostly fanon. Therefore, I want to rectify this by trying to stick as close to canon as possible, hence why there are now (or were) only five main branches there based on the terms I could find, looking through the books*

  • This excludes trans-species transformation (which I must've missed, my bad) and cross-species switches, clearly a sub-division of the larger group of switches (that's also why I don;t think it should be mentioned on the Trans-species page with the exception of a note, probably in Behind the scenes, saying that they may pertain to that category).

But I digress. The point is, I can't see any evidence for the terms Inanimate-animate transfigurations (+associated terms) being canon. I can't find it on HP lexicon, skimming through the books or anything. If I have missed something feel free to correct me but if not then why do these articles exist?

Green Zubat 16:13, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

I understand your POV and I was all too willing to accept it yesterday (in fact I was the one who made the inanimate-inanimate page), but then I stumbled upon the spell Lapifors, which appears to causes problems for this method of classification - it works on both animate & inanimate objects, so it wouldn't fit neatly into the current system. Hence I set about forging a new one (especially considering that animagus & human don't appear to be their own branchs).
Just so you know, in the new system I initially included the two types which were similar - animative and non-animative transfigurations (animative = animated creatures is the end-product and non-animative = inanimate thing is end-product) but then I just thought "well what's the point of even differentiating if there's no canon evidence for either?" and just threw them both under the general name of Transmogrification*
  • Also FYI, I chose transmogrification as the term because the meaning was appropriate (and its almost canon, with Transmogrify and the Transmogrifian Torture) but I'm obviously open to better names for transfigurations that aren't switches, vanishments, conjurations or untransfigurations.
Lastly, I do also accept info from other media as canon unless they contradict the books - is there any supporting the animation method of classification? Because that would be fab.
I've not really got any agenda with regards to this issue just so you know, the classification of transfiguration is just something that's been bugging me for aaaaaages and I really just want to get it sorted :s Green Zubat 16:45, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

So a couple of years ago we had a discussion about which set of Hogwarts crests the wiki should use. I was strongly in favor of "Set 2" as described at Forum:Hogwarts Crests, mainly because it accurately depcits the Ravenclaw symbol as an eagle rather than a raven. This set also received a large majority of votes. Are we going to switch over? Akwdb 03:49, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

You alright?

: ) Nick O'Demus 09:13, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

If you need some help, just ask, although I won't be able to get on as much this week. Just over a week ago they pulled a 300 pound bee-hive out of my apartment's ceiling. They hadn't been bothering me, and I wasn't even aware it was there, but apparently they'd been troubling the lady upstairs, and it was easier to get to through my ceiling than her floor. However, since they did this on a friday afternoon, they didn't exactly finish the job, and basically just stuck a board over the hole for the weekend, which was still dripping honey down my wall and into the carpet, not to mention the bees that could get in around the unsealed edges. To top it all off, this was in my apartment's dining room area, which is where my computer desk is, so I had it under plastic for several days. Last monday they replaced the board with a better one, so at least the bees are gone, and this monday they're supposed to finally come in and fix the hole, not to mention replacing the sheetrock on the wall where the honey is, plus the carpet. I've boxed up a lot of stuff and put it into storage temporarily, and I'll have to pack up my computer tomorrow too (currently sitting on a folding table, since I had to take everything out of the room), so I'll be gone for the next few days.
However, for Sunday, I've still got access and time, so if you want some help, let me know what needs doing. - Nick O'Demus 10:01, August 7, 2011 (UTC)
Until last week, the bees were never a problem for me. Even the lady upstairs didn't seem to have a problem until about mid-July, even though they've apparently been there for years. (They've had to have been to build a 300 pound hive, the exterminators were expecting something around 5-10 pounds.) Maybe it was the heat/drought this summer that got them worked up. Honestly though, I've only been dealing with this for about a week-and-a-half, so four months of living out of a box during constant renovations seems worse to me.
I'm almost done with the death categories. I also left a comment on your forum about the timeline for when the Potters went into hiding, and I've started a new forum topic on new infobox images. - Nick O'Demus 19:29, August 7, 2011 (UTC)
Some of the newer users are chomping at the bit to start up the House Points Game again. Would you like me to take over running the game this round? (Although I'd still need your help and advice.) I started up a forum discussion on some ideas. - Nick O'Demus 07:24, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

Birth/death year categories

So sorry about that, it was my fault. I figured out the year categories with only one individual in them weren't that useful as they weren't much of a "category". As no one seemed to object it I just went on with it. But yes, you definitely have a point. If you still need any help reverting it, I will gladly do so. Again, sorry about the trouble. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 14:01, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Pottermore information

Alright, with the early opening beta of Pottermore underway, new information is starting to dribble onto the site: case in point - Ollivander's first name is revealed, and the name of McGonagall's mother. Now, with this being a closed beta, we're going to be hard pressed to verify this info unless at least one of us has entry to Pottermore. If we don't, we're going to have to trust the user base until we can verify it. I have been accepted myself for early entry, but am still waiting for access. So the question is, has anyone else applied for/ got early entry so we can effectively screen for fanon? - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 17:07, August 15, 2011 (UTC)

{{Pottermore}} spoiler template for articles with Pottermore content. Acts as both a warning template to avoid spoilers and a maintenance one for admins. Your idea of tailoring our house choices isn't a bad one, to be honest. We need some way to specifically track all info coming from the site. I guess I self identify with Gryffindor myself, but I'd be willing to take the hit on another house if need be. I probably plan to do multiple accounts like yourself later on, so being in a different house early on for the wiki's needs wouldn't be a problem. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:18, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
Well, I can go Hufflepuff if needed. Setting up a forum to discuss it would be a decent idea so that we can be organised. As for the template, I'd say on every article since some of the info on McGonagall and Ollivander are pretty spoiler-ish. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:53, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
Good news that at least one of us is in! Ravenclaw, huh? Were you trying for Slytherin? - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 07:10, August 25, 2011 (UTC)
Be interesting to see what I get ... if I ever get in :P Strange how Gryffindor has the lowest count. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 07:44, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism streak

I noticed you recently gave a vandal warning to There's been a huge amount of similar vandalism recently. I asked Grunny about it, and he said it was cross-wiki spam. I've reported the ones I've kept track of in the last day or two to the VSTF here, if you want to see. - Nick O'Demus 17:18, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

It's alright, you've definitely been busy recently. Cubs Fan knows about this too, and I also told Jayden, so there should be enough people keeping an eye out for suspicious IP activity (a large drop in the article size is usually the giveaway).
Glad you liked the picture, the Voldy-hug was something that really cracked me up in the film for some reason (that, and the line "When have any of our plans ever actually worked? We plan, we get there, all hell breaks loose!"). I also couldn't resist doing this.

  • Cursed locking spell
  • Cursed lock

I like the last one best, thoughts? N.B. I don't want to actually call it "locking curse"—though, the thought did occur—'cause Nick never states what type of Dark magic it is, only that it is some type of Dark magic spell—Green Zubat (owl me!). 04:17, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

Pottermore spells

Hey, I saw that you added a few spells from the Pottermore duelling thing and I have a few questions: firstly, how are the Smokescreen Spell, Green Sparks and Red Sparks different from Fumos, Verdimillious or Vermillious respectively? Because if there aren't any discernible differences then I propose several page merges.

Secondly, how is Colloshoo the same as the Stickfast Hex? What is the exact description of the SF hex? —Green Zubat (owl me!). 18:33, August 28, 2011 (UTC

Also, whilst were at it, I found a cached picture from Google of that forum post I couldn't get into (the one mentioned on the Tongue-tying Curse talk page) and it seems that guy was more or less telling the truth. However, if you wouldn't mind, could you describe exactly how those spells are described by Pottermore, just so they don't get misinterpreted—Green Zubat (owl me!). 19:00, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Awesome! I am forever in your debt :) And yes, I agree with you on the TT curse & spell, especially since we had the spell mimblewimble ages ago and its effect was closer to the TT spell's than the TT curse's. I'll change the pages to reflect that—Green Zubat (owl me!). 21:35, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Tongue-Tying spell/curse

Hey again, I just saw your reversion to my edit on the TT curse page where you said that TT spell is described as a curse when you practice it, what did you mean by that? Does it say "Your spell: Tongue-tying curse" or something? Also, I'm not sure if that's grounds for a merge; the TT spell might just be formally called that even though its a curse too. Also, Mimblewimble has different effects (and argably different wand movements) from TT curse. there just seem to be too many discrepancies to merge them—Green Zubat (owl me!). 22:22, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Case in point: the Leg-Locker Curse is referred to as that and the Leg-Locker Spell and likewise for the Full Body-Bind Curse, which has an alternative name—Green Zubat (owl me!). 22:29, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

No, I know TT spell is the same as Mimblewimble, I just didn't think that constituted grounds for a merge with TT curse. So we're in agreement now?

Fine; there's no point arguing, let the merge begin—Green Zubat (owl me!). 23:29, August 28, 2011 (UTC)

Apparently, "to pull a Pottermore" is starting to get used synonymously with "to take forever" on the web. So it has been with me; I've been away for the week and just arrived home, still no Pottermore e-mail in my inbox. Meh. RE: Frustrated

I know how you feel. I've already butted heads with them more than once on a couple of issues, particularly the "original research" (examples here, here, and here).

I really wish I could be more helpful with the Pottermore stuff, but I don't have access yet. I can at least try and find if that SnitchSeeker forum was duplicated somewhere else. I'll do what I can to back you up, and I'll be here if you ever need to vent. - Nick O'Demus 02:36, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Paninis (Paninos?)

I don't mean to undermine the work you've been doing on here recently, but I've seen the very short and rather irrelevent articles on the various Paninis (or Paninos; I'm not too clear on the British spelling here, or if they're a different dish from Paninis) served at Luchino Cafe, and I have a suggestion. D'you think it would be more practical to merge these all into one article under a name such as "Paninis (or Paninos) served at Luchino Cafe"? -JDRooDigger 00:40, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

If you say so. Although, while it would take a lot of work, I think most non-magical food (magical food being stuff such as butterbeer) should probably be merged into a just a few pages anyways. For example: all foods served at Hogwarts that have their own article would get merged into one article such as "Dishes served at Hogwarts meals", and the soups at the Leaky Cauldron would be merged into one accordingly. Perhaps even the very short articles on Honeydukes candy mentioned only in passing or seen only in the movies or the Wizarding World of Harry Potter could have the same done to them. To go even further than foods, I think that most of the "Unidentified Individual" articles should be merged as well, for the same reasons. I am actually currently trying out an idea on a forum that User:Jayden Matthews started to merge most all of the wands of unknown wood and core material (most of which came from characters in Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4) into one article as well. These changes would reduce the vast amount of stubs on here that give very little relevent information. But I can see that the vast majority of these are most likely not going to happen.

On a side note, thank you for informing me that the plural of panino is actually just "panini". I had no idea. -JDRooDigger 01:24, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Alright, so I'm defeated on the merging of food articles. I'm fine with that. Consulting these issues are what administrators are for. I didn't realise how big a problem it would cause. However, I still stand firm on my idea to merge most of the nearly identical articles about wands into one article entitled "Wands of unknown wood and core materials". It's much more practical than what we have now, as I've pointed out here and on Seth Cooper's talk page under the section "Wands". For example, do we really need individual articles for Ernie Prang's wand, Tom's wand, Rosmerta's wand, Malkin's wand, or others like it that are nearly identical save for the name of the wands owner? These DON'T offer unique information in each article. -JDRooDigger 03:24, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Starstuff! I have a question, perhaps you can help me. When I create a new userbox as template, on which site must I save it? Harry granger 19:59, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

On this Wiki exists a userbox Animagus. I wanted such a userbox with another picture: instead of the dog Padfoot, I wanted to have the picture of a unicorn. But I figured out already how to do it as you can see either on my userpage or on the page for the userbox templates. But nonetheless many thanks for your efforts. Harry granger 20:50, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

Hi, the new userbox with the animagus "form" is good. I have mine already, but for changes or other users I think it will be very helpful. Perhaps you can help me with another userbox. It is the edit counter. There are two: User edits with blue colours and the counter over 111 edits and User edits 2 with black and red colours and the 111 edits. How can I change it to blue colours with the editcounter 111 edits and not over 111 edits. Harry granger 21:47, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you! I've done it yet and it operates. Thanks again! Harry granger 22:39, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

FlameChaserX. And yours? I still haven't been Sorted, though (I'm currently on a shopping spree at Diagon Alley, as you probably have deduced from my recent edits on the textbooks and whatnot). --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 21:32, September 4, 2011 (UTC)
Accepted. Alright, I will! :) --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 21:52, September 4, 2011 (UTC)
I'm a Ravenclaw! I spent the whole Sorting thinking "from my answers I'm going to end up in Hufflepuff", though. :) --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:05, September 5, 2011 (UTC)
"A friend of yours had a Self-Spelling Quill (I think) and cheated on Professor Flitwick's exam leaving you second top of the class. What would you do?", "Black or White?", "Dawn or Dusk?", "Which of the following potions would you try first?", "How would you rather be remembered?" (this one was really see-through; the answers were something among the lines of "Wise", "Bold", "Friend" or "Powerful (?)") "Which of the following you find hardest to stand?", and I think that's all of them. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:16, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

Dean Thomas

Hi, you said JKR said Dean was half-blood on her website. Can you post a link to it? Dean is one of my favorite characters, so I'd like to have some proof of his blood status!

Thanks. 00:08, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

RE:Potions on Pottermore

All I have been doing lately on Pottermore is brewing potions. While it has been running pretty smooth for me, I have been hearing of some technical issues. As for the potion-making itself, try to follow the animation of the ingredients falling into the cauldron -- note that some ingredients are handled in multiple quantities (i.e. each serving of snake fangs adds 3 to the ingredient counter). I have never blown up a cauldron myself, but I hear mistakes in cauldron temperature often result in that. When heating your cauldron, you need to keep the mercury in the thermometer within the marked out zones. On some more complex potions, you will need to alternate between the blue (off), orange (low heat) and red (high heat) buttons to keep the level stable within the small safe zone. Also, handling flasks, jars and bottles can be frustrating. You will have more control of the ammount of ingredients you're pouring if you hold them from the top. Tilt the container by leaning its bottom side on the edge of the cauldron, as if cracking an egg.

When you finish the first phase, do not stay on the potion's page. Instead, click "Come back later", and keep an eye on the timer on your Cauldrons page. When the text says "This potion requires your attention", click it, and you will be able to access the second phase of the potion.

I'd advise you to brew mostly Cure for Boils. It has very few steps and does not involve precise control over the cauldron temperature. Besides, its ingredients are among the cheapest. However, it may get a bit dull after a couple of brews. The most difficult one is, on my opinion, the Sleeping Draught. Regardless of difficulty, all potions result in the same ammount of points.

I never had the chance to play Wizard Duels (already down for maintenance when I received my welcome email), so Potions seems to be a pretty fun replacement to pass the time (mind, I was always overly excited over Chemistry Class). :) --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 13:57, September 10, 2011 (UTC)

How to delete a jpg

Hello - need a little help --I thought I was uploading a picture to my own page but it went out to limbo land. Is there some way to delete or tag it to profile page?

Weasley Children's Uncle

I Googled "children's vs. childrens'" and checked the first three results. They all say "children's" is correct and that "childrens'" isn't even a word. Below are the links to the three sites.

Images from Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey

Hi, Starstuff! Thank you for your efforts scanning and uploading the pictures from Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey. They are really great. I thought it should be said. Harry granger 17:27, October 27, 2011 (UTC)

I completely agree - great work! Lot of good stuff coming out of this book and nice job on getting it posted here at the wiki. I'm looking forward to reading that book myself. ProfessorTofty 04:30, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Brilliant articles. Are there any lists of Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff Captains and do you know a better image of the Gryffindor ones?--Rodolphus 08:51, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Catch the Golden Snitch Giveaway

Do you think this is something that maybe should be removed from the homepage? People keep posting comments on that blog and kept wondering why-- then I realized that it's linked in that box that's on the homepage of the Wiki. That contest ended back in August, yet it's still linked on the homepage. And I get the feelng some of the people who are posting those comments even think that they're entering the contest, even though the blog post itself clearly says that you have to go to the page linked on it to enter (or would, were the contest still open.) ProfessorTofty 05:08, October 28, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks! Looking good. Not much longer now till the final film comes out on DVD/Blu-ray. :) ProfessorTofty 00:04, October 29, 2011 (UTC)
Something else that's come up-- the Daily Prophet News section references Pottermore being opened to general registration in October, but that's since been delayed and now it's uncertain when it will open. ProfessorTofty 20:34, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

Nymphadora Vulpecula (?) Tonks

Hi, Starstuff! I saw your deletion and was curious. When I surfed trought the internet I found this: What do you think about this source? Harry granger 10:53, November 7, 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I was wondering where you got all the names for the various students in the PS2 version of Prisoner of Azkaban. I've played that game multiple times, but unless the names are in the games credits, I'm not sure how you get them. 05:50, November 10, 2011 (UTC)

Notability Policy Discussion

Just wanted to let know that I've replied to the thread in the Wizengamot about the Notability Policy Discussion, hoping to get things moving. I think everything's looking prety good on the whole, so hopefully we can just finish up the finer details and then it can get posted. ProfessorTofty 23:55, November 28, 2011 (UTC)

Minor video game character birthdates

Regarding the latter possible birthdates of minor video game characters such as Christopher Flack, shouldn't they be 31 July? I say this because they would have to turn 11, receive and reply to the Hogwarts acceptance letter, which says 'We await your owl by no later than July 31.' meaning they would have the minimum of 1 day to reply. I might be getting confused about when the acceptance letter is sent. Could you clarify this? Is the letter sent to all wizards between 11 and 12 on a set date before the 31 July? If so is it when they are between 11 and 12 on 31 July or 1 September? (BTW, this is the second time writing this post. The first time I pressed 'Publish', the page reloaded and said, 'Changes not yet changed' or something like that. Not sure if I'm talking to the right person about that but it would be appreciated if this was fixed since there have been lots of times when I've made lots of edits, lost all of them and had to do them again. aaronsclee 11:14, January 31, 2012 (UTC)

Draft Notability Policy

Hi there! I know you haven't been active for a while, but I thought as the original creator, you might like to know that I've called for a vote on the proposal to pass the policy as it stands currently. If you're interested, please visit here and if you think it looks good, vote to pass, or otherwise post what you think still needs work. ProfessorTofty 23:00, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Fan Fic

So, are we allowed to post fanfiction on here? I just want to know because I love to write so. . .
