Upset and No Response

Hello. I created a page about the Dracorex Hogwartsia, which is a dinosaur named after Harry Potter. I put the label of it being from the real world as well as links to all the sites to prove it legit. It's on Wikipedia, JKR has talked about it, and no other fandom has a dinosaur named after it.

The first person who deleted it said because it was fanon. It's not fanon, and they never replied, so I re-made it. Someone did nominate it for deletion because they were not sure if it should have its own page and wanted to discuss it. Then, just a little bit ago Cavalier One deleted it, and the only thing written was speedy deletion. I asked why and have not gotten a response.

Am I missing something here? Because none of this makes sense. Sev Lover Forever 21:27, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I am upset and angry because, you deleted my 1st page. I would like to know why it was deleted. I was working on it, and very proud of it! Please respond. Ginnyweasleyrules78 22:34, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Reply about Dracorex

Hi, I don't know how else to reply. I think it should have it's own page because it is a pretty unique and special thing for the fandom. Also, the wikipedia page is insufficient. It has some information, but not all of it. I just mentioned it to disprove the fanon claim. I have about a full page in Word about it, and it took a lot of research to compile it.

Also, to me it doesn't seem like a behind the scenes thing. I mean, it's not a reference to the castle itself, but to the whole Harry Potter world. It shows how influential JKR and the books have been. She talked about it, there were news articles and blog posts about it. After all, Twilight and The Hunger Games are big, but they don't have a dinosaur named after them. It's something that sets Harry Potter apart.

Also, how long does an article have to be to be a page? I mean, I saw an article about the rabbit Tom Riddle killed. It was literally a quote and three sentences.

Thank you for the reply, as well. Sev Lover Forever 23:28, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

Blue Racer and Opheodrys

Hi Seth. I'm writing to you because we can't keep editing Blue Racer and Opheodrys only by writing summaries. Therefore i'm asking you what kind of sources you want on these pages, since i already have said that these snakes look exactly like Blue Racer and Opheodrys. --Danniesen 19:40, March 27, 2012 (Denmark)

I fully understand you, i just didn't know what you wanted. What would you say we should do with them, then? --Danniesen 20:10, March 27, 2012 (Denmark)
If there is absolutely no source that provides it (I couldn't find any, can you?) we should delete it. We could list the snakes and associated pictures to some Behind The Scenes sections. Furthermore i can't delete pages unless you give me administrator position. --Danniesen 20:55, March 27, 2012 (Denmark)
However, we could also let them stay and rename the Unidentified snake I and Unidentified snake II. --Danniesen 21:00, March 27, 2012 (Denmark)

As you said, inserting header templates on pages, informing that particular article or section can expire may turn out to be over-productive. Yes, I completely agree with that and I must say I didn't think my idea over thoroughly before telling you about this. I wouldn't have done any template, before consulting with some experienced contributor, administrator, and obviously I wouldn't now. Thus, maybe you want to learn about my second idea? What about making a letter infobox. I've noticed, there are many letter articles so I reckon It wouldn't be so bad if we made such template (fields including e.g. adressee, author/sender, written [the date of writing]). I'm aware you may think it's silly, but without asking somebody, I won't find out what others think of it. Colin Fletcher 16:27, April 2, 2012 (UTC)

Well, I think you should do that. I may confuse something. Colin Fletcher Owl Post

Need your help

I am creating a wiki for my Harry Potter Series. E.g. Harry Potter fanon wiki, but I cannot get infoboxes like on here, to work. How do you do them? I've been trying for several hours, and it is actually making me consider giving up writing Fanfiction and coming on to this wiki too.HarryPotterRules1 01:42, April 3, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, it looks brilliant. So I can start putting that in articles on letters, right? Colin Fletcher Owl Post

About the exhibitition Portraits. Can you read other names? I´d say the witch's first name is Daria.--Rodolphus 17:07, April 7, 2012 (UTC)

It could be "Daria Lutima Creaseworthy. " Perhaps Daria is a relative of Lutima. Canon shows that the Map doesn´t list full names. It does´t list A. P. W. B. Dumbledore for example.--Rodolphus 17:53, April 7, 2012 (UTC)

Pottermore Opening

Well, with Pottermore finally open to the public, I've signed up, and I'll probably start being a bit more active here again. I've put my Pottermore name on my userpage if you'd like to add me as a friend there. I was sorted into Hufflepuff. ProfessorTofty 19:45, April 14, 2012 (UTC)

I'm sure we won't, as I'm sure that we both accept information has been stated as canon. That is, um, whatever mysterious source it is that designates things as canon. ;) It doesn't look like you've done much dueling, but I went ahead and challenged you to one anyway, so I hope you'll give it a go, if you'd like. 00:35, April 15, 2012 (UTC)

Somebody created a page Gonchi The Great that says it's from Pottermore, but it looks like fanon.

Well, here we are again...

Hi Seth, how are you? Sorry I've not been around much lately. I've been engrossed in Pottermore;) I hate to quote you on this, but you did say "a few weeks". Well, it's been considerably longer than that and Dannien's behaviour has not changed one bit! Yesterday I warned him (for what seems like the millionth time) about copying Wikipedia content, and removing delete tags from articles. I'm not sure what good I expected it to do. Evidently the answear is "none", as, less than 24 hours later he did it again!. Anyway, as always, you're the admin, so the ball's in your court. However, I sincerly hope you will honour our agreement, and put a stop to his nonsense one and for all. Thank you. Jayden Matthews 13:49, April 22, 2012 (UTC) PS: I've also noticed several off-topic blogs cropping up the past few weeks or so that need to be deleted per the blog policy. Thanks. Hey I'm llama48, an admin on The Regular Show Wiki. I am a small fan of Harry Potter, and was doing a research paper on Harry Potter, when i stumbled across this wiki. I saw u were the first guy who showed up, and i REALLY admire your work. U have been working hard as an admin to help get this wiki where it needs to be. If u want to respond, please respond on my REGULAR SHOW WIKI ACCOUNT TALK PAGE!!! if that is ok.....

thanks, and Utopia!! XD Llama48 Ya can't beat the life of a slacker. 21:30, April 23, 2012 (UTC)

Re Re: Hello

Yes, i very much agree. On our wiki, we have several users trying to vandalize our wiki, and admins, like me, have kept it on a smooth level. Llama48 Ya can't beat the life of a slacker. 00:46, April 25, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, and for the blogs as well. What I find the most frustrating about this saga is that he demonstrated on numerous occasions the fact that he knew how to edit properly, and productively. He simply chose not to, which, in my opinion, is doubly unnaceptable. Oh, and I couldn't help but notice Downton Abbey listed as a favourite wiki of yours! I didn't even know it had reached the States yet! Jayden Matthews 16:21, April 25, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I love it too! It's a great thing to escape into. Sorry, I thought you were from Texas for some strange reason. Where abouts in Europe are you from? Jayden Matthews 16:59, April 25, 2012 (UTC)
I wish I knew, I really do... This will bug me now until I figure it out! Whish I lived in Portugal;) Jayden Matthews 17:07, April 25, 2012 (UTC)

Could you have a look on the talk pages of Kettleburn and Martial magic?

On Pottermore, I have been Sorted into Ravenclaw, and I always assumed I´d be a Ravenclaw. That's great.--Rodolphus 13:44, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

I plan on being as helpful to the community as possible... if there's anything (no matter how annoying it may be) you need done around here, let me know. :) If the ninja skills don't get you, my army of weiner dogs will! iKayla :) 23:27, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Seth. I've been trying to clean out the red links recently, and several have turned up in your talk page and archives. Since it looks like there are quite a few, I thought I'd check with you first and get the OK before I start clearing them out.

Also, I asked Grunny about the spacing issue with the family tree templates, and he said he'd take a look at it later on. - Nick O'Demus 06:35, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

Notability Policy Vote

Hiya, Seth. With Speedysnitch's go-ahead, I'm trying to drum up some voting on the proposed notability policy. As someone who has stated before that the policy is badly needed, could you please visit the vote to pass the policy as is and if you agre that we should, go ahead vote on it? Or if not, post what you think still needs to be done to put the policy in a state where we can implement it? ProfessorTofty 23:04, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Umm, could you please add my B-Day to Starstuff's List of User's Birthdays? I couldn't figure out how. It is on March 21st.

Need your opinion

A need a second opinion on something. I'm going to go through the books and interviews and add references for all the known wand properties. But, for example, Sirius Black's wand is noted to have a length of 15 inches, and the only source I can find for this is the Noble Collection replica. While I know merchandise can usually qualify as Tier 3 Canon, I'm a bit hesitant about using the Noble figures, since some of them are pretty far off established canon. (The Noble replicas for Harry's, Draco's, and Voldemort's wands are all 14 inches.) So do you think 15 inches should be accepted as canon, or should it just be mentioned as a BTS note? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nick O'Demus (talkcontribs).

Need another second opinion. An unregistered user has raised a valid point about a dating contradiction involving the death date of Tom Riddle Sr. and his parents. You can see it on either Talk:Tom Riddle Sr. or Talk:1940s. - Nick O'Demus 22:04, July 17, 2012 (UTC)

Book Club

Hi Seth, just a heads up, we're live with the book club announcement-->

I also added a slider image with link on the main page (you were missing a fourth, so hope that works). Hope you will have time to join the live chats! Peter@fandom 20:47, June 19, 2012 (UTC)

I am curious why you felt compelled to undo the changes I had made to "Mirror of Erised", especially ones such as that to the first line of the section entitled "Powers", which, in its current form, makes no grammatical sense.

Have I transgressed some particular protocols of which I was unaware? Jiskran 07:57, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for checking my "Mirror" edit. As it seems within your capacity to do so, and I have already failed twice in the endeavour, could you amend the caption in the "Dungeon Troll" entry to read "the" rather than "th"? I am aware this is pendantry at its most perilous, but for me it is the visible counterpart of nails on a blackboard. Alex Jiskran 11:19, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

Some anonymous soul has added an advert page about holidays in Italy, entitled KempfCobb400. I presume that some level of administrative authority is required to perform deletions. Jiskran (talk) 13:27, June 27, 2012 (UTC)

The link correction you've made to "Architect of Hogwarts" takes a reader to the book, not the game. Jiskran (talk) 17:31, June 28, 2012 (UTC)

That makes complete sense. Jiskran (talk) 19:03, June 28, 2012 (UTC)

Some anonymous moron is defacing the "Elder Wand" page. Jiskran (talk) 20:15, June 28, 2012 (UTC)

I understand the principle entailed, but on so insubstantial an article as "Muggles Who Notice", it seems a shame not tobe able to append a logical and related piece of canon data. Alex Jiskran (talk) 19:43, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

As I said, I recognise entirely the validity of the reasoning. Jiskran (talk) 20:37, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the warm welcome earlier and the few reminders!

I've been always a fan of Harry Potter, so yes. I'd gladly enjoy my stay here!

Educational Decrees

The anonymous user with the following IP address,, continually re-inserts the same sentence into these "Decree" entries:

  1. Althrough not identified, it is most likely seen on the wall along with the others.

Can anything be done about this? Jiskran (talk) 12:03, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

It's Danniesen. I was hoping he'd abide by his block willingly, but after looking into it further, it's obvious he's done anything but. I've known for a while that he usually works out of an IP range that changes slightly almost every day (edits by any IP starting with 109.5 are almost always his), but after doing some more checking, it appears he's working from two other IP addresses/ranges as well.
The mentioned above is the only one that's been consistent. There have been about 250 edits going back to Feb. 2010 (as bonus proof, he signed his username on one of them, here).
Apparently, he's also the IP's starting with 94.191, mentioned by ProfessorTofty here. Like the 109.5, this IP shifts slightly almost every day (or more). If you do a Ctrl+F search here, you can see just how many times IP's starting with those numbers come up (and again he signed his username on one of them,
We could ask Grunny to double-check just to be sure, but I'm willing to bet all of these IP's could be traced back to Denmark. The IP could be blocked easily enough, but the other two would require a range block, which could potentially lock out some other users as well. - Nick O'Demus 15:26, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Seth! Do you know what has happened to the infoboxes? The width seem to be greater and the images don't really fit in anymore. That's not so nice.  Harry granger   Talk  contribs 21:02, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

The colours in the Wizard individual infobox - grey in brown - is hard to read, too.  Harry granger   Talk  contribs 21:31, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
I think the problem is browser-specific. I don't see any issues when using the latest Firefox (which is what I normally use), but bringing up the page in Internet Explorer, it's way out-of-whack. ProfessorTofty (talk) 22:56, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
I use Firefox, too, and when I understood right, Nick O'Demus saw the same problem as me. He talked to Grunny and after that the userboxes look normal again except the font colour in the Wizard individual infobox, the brown colour is too dark for the font colour.  Harry granger   Talk  contribs 18:05, July 11, 2012 (UTC)
Well, when Harry granger first mentioned the problem, I had Firefox open and I didn't see anything wrong either, but when I checked it using Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, I saw what he was talking about. I then closed Firefox completely and re-opened it, and then it started showing the same problem. (Basically, the infoboxes were being widened to whatever the longest line of text in them was, instead of staying fixed at 250px with the text wrapping to another line.) Grunny fixed the problem in the MediaWiki:Wikia.css, but he's on holiday so he won't be able to take a more in-depth look until he gets back. - Nick O'Demus 18:19, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

Hi hi! :)

Hi Seth Cooper! I just wanted to drop by and say hi. And that I think you're amazing for creating this wiki. You've really done a lot. I'm sort of a Harry Potter addict myself and I love this wiki! I'm even using it for research for this thing I've signed up for. It's a blog called Ravenclaw Studies and it was created by one of my Pottermore friends. We do assignments that expand our knowledge of the wizarding world and it brings some of us Pottermore users together. I also want to thank everyone else for their generous contributions to this wiki in whatever way possible (except for the vandals). Thanks to this wiki I'm a walking Harry Potter encyclopedia, lol.

About the "Gargoyle Strike of 1911"

When Binns speaks of "wildcats", is to describe the animal or the "wild" the gargoyle? Because I'd like to translate into French (since not having)? So I could literally translate into: « … durant la sauvage Grève des Gargouilles de 1991, les sauvageons étaient en train de gagner lorsque… » ?

Thank you so very much Seth for fixing up the Green Special Jinx and Yellow Special Jinx pages I created earlier. I know I did a sloppy job on them, and for that I apologize, but at the time I was desperate to get rid of the red links on the Special Jinxes page (how I hate red links) and once I created them I fear I was busy with other matters and was unable to finish. Again, thank you so much. 00:47, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

I don't quite know whether you saw the latest post I put on my talk page, but in case you didn't, I was wondering if you could please teach me how to bring images from Pottermore onto the pages here (for instance, I wanted to try and get a picture of Dobby from Pottermore onto here, and when The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 3 comes out on Pottermore I wanted to be able to upload the contents without having to bother everyone else to do so. Thanks :) 14:59, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your help, and I assure you it was for good cause. 15:55, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

I know the picture of Dobby isn't the best, but hopefully it'll do. I just thought I'd give you a heads-up that there'll be a lot more on the way. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 16:29, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

Just wondering, how exactly do I do that? The "Crop" button is all gray, and hence I can't use it... is there any other way to crop an image? By the way, thanks for your help. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 17:18, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

I'm afraid I couldn't see the blue dot you specified, but I think I got the gist all the same. I'm going to be re-posting "Dobby.png" as a test, and if it doesn't work then... eventually I'll figure it out. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 17:32, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

I'm getting a bit of a headache from all of this stuff, so I'll wait until later to finish... hopefully that's okay. I'm glad all the same that I could get Dobby on there, because it was quite annoying me to find that the image of him on Pottermore hadn't yet been added. I'm going to try and get Harry on here as well, as I'm fairly certain the image of him from chapter one will be sufficient. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 17:44, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

Deletion Log Questions

Dear Seth Cooper,

Where is the deletion log to this wiki? What is its name? How can I access it? Please send me the answers to these questions via email.

Colosiant (talk) 00:26, August 18, 2012 (UTC)

Seth, Dobbypuppy23 has just redirected every page connected to the Basilisk and King of serpens to "King of buts". Can you look at this, please? {{SUBST:User:Jiskran/Signature}} 17:50, August 25, 2012 (UTC)

RE:You-Know-Who + Family Trees

Sorry about not replying sooner. I've asked Grunny again about the family tree templates, so we'll see if he responds.

I've also found another IP address he's working from: (see here). At this point, it looks like the only way to enforce the ban would be to block the entire country of Denmark. - Nick O'Demus 17:37, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

Oh, I also wanted to ask: your Pottermore profile shows you're already on chapter 5 in CoS. How did you manage that? It still won't let me move past chapter 4 yet. - Nick O'Demus 17:41, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
Nevermind about the Pottermore thing, Hunnie Bunn already explained it. Also, I've added a couple of notices to the Nagini and James Potter talk pages to try to curb some of those oft-repeated posts. Let me know if you think the wording could be improved. - Nick O'Demus 10:37, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

Hover Charm/Levitation Charm

Hi Seth :). Hopefully you're well. Sorry to bother you, but twice I've split the Hover Charm and Wingardium Leviosa pages, and twice my edits have been reverted because they're supposedly the same spell. I wondered what your opinion on the matter was. Thanks :). I am, yours most sincerely, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore (talk) 15:48, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

Just figured I'd say thank you for all your hard work and all the help you've provided. Thanks :D Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore (talk) 16:02, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

Oriental Employee

The Oriental Hogwarts Employee does appear in the final film. They look exactly alike, and she is the only oriental employee that's a female. It was stated on her former page. There are a lot of employee's that have no evidence that they appear in two or more films. --Zannabanna (talk) 16:27, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

Do you care to join our discussion on the Forum:Disable the Visual Editor page? I think you'd find it fascinating enough... Remus Lupin (Expecto Patronum!)

Forum:Disable the Visual Editor?

Hi, Seth! Sorry for the "playing around". No one wanted to diminish ProfessorTofty's topic. Perhaps it would be the best to delete the whole playing around? But that's your decision.  Harry granger   Talk  contribs 14:52, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

Hi Seth! I was not surprised that this "getting-out-of-hand" was too much for you. I had thought you would do it earlier but perhaps you didn't see this earlier. Good idea to conceal it from view, but still keep it visible in editing mode. I was not sure about the deletion because of this archive policy.  Harry granger   Talk  contribs 15:43, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, Mr. Cooper. I do hope you can forgive Mr. Granger and I for our tedious, immaterial conversation late last night (early morning for me). I wish to thank you for having revitalized our sense, which we seem to have lost somewhere along the way. Indeed, I profess myself shocked, Mr. Cooper, to think that you believed we were attempting to diminish Professor Tofty's topic; no such thing would ever be intentionally considered. In agreement with Mr. Granger's earlier idea (which is, I confess, most excellent, an idea worthy of him), I do think it wise to erase the entire "ramblings" subject, because (as you informed us) it is grossly out-of-universe. Rest assured, also, that there will be no more of this "impersonation" happening on our wiki. Wishing you well, and a fine day, --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 15:28, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

Wrock bands

Say, I never did hear back about the non-notable wrock bands. However, given that the procedure with the unidentified indvidiuals seeme to be redirects, I'm going to ahead and redirect the non-notable ones to the List of wrock bands. ProfessorTofty (talk) 14:55, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

I appreciate it, and I assure you that it's most understandable - if I'd been thinking about the wiki in general, I would have wondered why you hadn't stopped it sooner. Then again, if I'd been thinking about the wiki in general, I wouldn't have elected to lead the conversation in the first place. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 16:06, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

Re:Hardening Charm and Revealing Charm

Yeah, thanks! I don't have the best connection, so it's certainly difficult to pause the video in the right spots for me to see it. Good thing they made the text pretty clear, but I expect they expected people to pause and read that (or else they wouldn't have included legible text there at all). And thank you in turn for putting up the transcriptions of the text on those articles. It was too difficult for me to stop it on a spot where I could read it in its entirety without one side or the other obscured, even at 1080p. -- 1337star (Drop me a line!) 00:19, September 7, 2012 (UTC)

I'm so sorry to intrude upon your and 1337star's conversation, and I know that the two of you are more than capable of solving the problem you brought up on your own, but I figured that whilst I'm still here I might as well make the suggestion of adding, to the line "and either booed him or threw rotten food at him", "until he removed his clothing (including, unfortunately, his undergarments), and therafter fell", as in "At first, he seemed to have succeeded but, after having spent nearly three minutes watching him hanging in mid-air, the crowd grew impatient to see him move somewhere, and either booed him or threw rotten food at him, until he removed his clothing (including, unfortunately, his undergarments), and thereafter fell". Hunnie Bunn (talk) 00:41, September 7, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, this is pretty much my thoughts on it (though I assume that it is the crowd stripping him, not Hobart himself). Even if something happens in between these two events, it's not wrong to say those two happened after each other. What I'm worried about, and we've seen this already before, is that there seems to be multiple choices given here (the clip picks underwear, but false teeth is also given as a choice). It'll be an interesting thing for canon if more than one answer can be correct and advance the story, particularly if it advances the story in different ways depending on your actions. -- 1337star (Drop me a line!) 00:53, September 7, 2012 (UTC)
Still, we do not know what happened between the booing/rotten food and the stripping and we do not know if Hobart removed his clothes as a result of the crowd's unruly behaviour. If that is not true, the way Hunnie Bunn written it above may be awkwardly worded at best or, at worst, outright non-compliant with (as of yet not publicly known) canon. That's why I hesitated to add it to the article straight away.
If what you (1337star) are saying happens to be true it'll be interesting... but a canonical headache. We cannot simply hold that two different courses of events historically happened, so what to do, there? I'm hoping that there is a "right" answer and a "wrong" answer for the sake of information consistency. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 00:59, September 7, 2012 (UTC)

Could you please block this ip? Both you and I have had to constantly undo his edits on List of Harry Potter fan websites. I am getting bored of undoing his edits despite and he is clearly not here to build an encyclopedia. ProfessorTofty (talk) 18:26, September 8, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, the amount of puffery was astounding. If you believed it, then just about every one of those RPGs was totally unique, the newest and the best with an amazing community and gripping gameplay. ProfessorTofty (talk) 18:33, September 8, 2012 (UTC)
