Image uploads

Thank you for contributing image uploads to the Harry Potter Wiki. However, your recent upload was in breach of our image policy, and has since been corrected. In future, please be sure to fill out the information template that is provided on the upload page, in particular citing the source from which the image comes from, and adding categories. This is to help keep images organised and catalogued, and to provide clear sourcing for all uploads. Please be aware that images missing this information may be subject to deletion, and, in certain cases, uploading images after being asked to provide the correct information may lead to a block for the uploader. If you have any doubts or questions regarding this, please contact one of the administrators. Thank you for your cooperation.--Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 10:45, February 17, 2011 (UTC)

Please read and comply with the above message. Failure to properly license and source images may lead to administrative action. Thank you for your cooperation. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 09:10, April 18, 2011 (UTC)

Which templates are you having troubles with?--BachLynn(Send an Owl!) 15:45, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

Well, try copying the code below, now if you don't have an image or know it's precise location, owner, residents or affiliation, you can just leave those blank. If you still aren't sure let me know.--BachLynn(Send an Owl!) 14:30, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

{{Location infobox |image= |name= |location= |owner= |residents= |affiliation= }}

Re: Subtitle

I do believe your edits were in good faith. The picture i was referring to was File:Bluebell flames 1.jpeg, which very clearly shows subtitles at the bottom of the image. They say, "Reducio!/What's going on in there?" Correcting you rather than reverting your edit would require a re-upload of the picture at the same place without the subtitles present, which is an upload that i am incapable of doing at the present time. Most importantly: don't take it personally. The wiki is a community effort, and the fact that you put the pictures there had nothing to do with my decision to take them right back off.
Additionally: Please stop removing the line in the infoboxes that says, "name=" because without that, instead of simply ignoring the omission, the template will display a void where the subject's name should go. The Knights Who Say Ni 07:26, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, {{{name}}} is the void i was talking about. Anyway, I recently found out that there are two different kind of layouts you can use to edit the wiki, and that lots of users use the one that i don't use. So if your edit box looks similar to the page itself (which i'm suspecting), then your question regarding the removal of {{{name}}} is better suited for someone else. And i didn't realize right away that you were changing the picture on Bluebell flames; the file names of the two pictures were very similar. so i'm sorry about that. The Knights Who Say Ni 07:49, May 7, 2011 (UTC)
indeed. you'll notice i've edited that page since then. i've added a few words to the above answer for clarification. The Knights Who Say Ni 08:01, May 7, 2011 (UTC)
i used a text-based edit box to restore the "name=" line to its proper place. but that's sort of like learning a new language. there has to be a way to do it without changing your user preferences. To learn how to do that, you will have to ask someone else. Earlier i saw that you asked BachLynn23 about the pictures i was reverting. I would recommend asking her if she knows, and if she doesn't, she is also more likely to know who can help you. The Knights Who Say Ni 08:19, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

I'm still looking in to why certain photos you added were edited back out, but I think the problem with the info box images is that when you add a line for image, somehow the line for name is being taken out, not sure, but all you have to do is go back in and add |name=blahblah name here to the info box and that fixes it.--BachLynn(Send an Owl!) 14:39, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I'm not finding a specific instance where a photo you added to a page was completely taken off the page, just edited better, as some of the instances I have seen you put the image in the middle of paragraphs and such, can you give me the specific page that the image you added was taken off?--BachLynn(Send an Owl!) 14:47, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Samreen Singh, welcome to the wiki. I thought I should let you know that it was me, not Nick that removed the image from the "Dissendium" article. I did this for several reasons. Firstly, the image is copyrighted, it has a watermark in the top left hand corner. Secondly, you have, once again, failed to properly source and categorise the image. You have been warned about this twice before, and further violations of the image policy may result in you being banned from the wiki. And thirdly, as you have already realised, you had not properly added it in the first place, and had broken the infobox. Also, if I may give you some advice? Please make sure you sign all you talk page posts with four of these ~. I don't want you to think you're being told off, but please be aware that this site is a community effort. Editing an article (even if you wrote it yourself) doesn't make it "yours". Nobody is ever consider the owner of any page, and comments such as "and if i have made a mistake then correct me rather than re-edit my page" are unhelpfull, and are unlikely to help your position. Again, welcome, and happy edtiting. Jayden Matthews 15:53, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Don't mention it, it's fine. Remeber what I said about signing your talk page posts, though. Jayden Matthews 16:11, May 7, 2011 (UTC)
After your post, like I'm doing. Jayden Matthews 16:20, May 7, 2011 (UTC)
It's best not to. They can be cropped out easily enough, though. Jayden Matthews 16:59, May 7, 2011 (UTC)
It's fine, but you're still not signing your posts. You need to start doing this, or you could face a short block. It's not hard, and you've already demonstrated that you know how to do it, so please start. Jayden Matthews 09:15, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Furthermore, you're still not correctly filling out the upload template when adding new images to the wiki. You're trying, but you're not doing it right. Please take the time to cast your eye around the site for an example where it's been done properly. Thanks. Jayden Matthews 10:18, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
You have to do it every time you leave a message. The information template should be filled out as follows. Jayden Matthews 12:47, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Samreen Singh

Any pertinent information relating to the image, such as it being used for any purpose other than being displayed in an image, or to add a deletion tag. This field will very rarely be filled

A description of what the image is.

The source from where the image comes from

Original designer / artist

If the artist is known, the artist's name should be here

Conversion / editing / upload information

This should be used to list specific information about any editing or processing the file has undergone -- this is critical for any image which has been modified from the original source. Do not list basic information like file size or dimensions, as the system will display these automatically.

The licensing which the file uses. Generally, it will be Screenshot, but others such as Fairusemay apply

Other versions / source images

This should be used to indicate when alternate but non-duplicate versions or formats of a file are available. For instance, if the image is a cropped version of a larger image.

The categories in which the image belongs

Samreen Singh - what Jayden said about signing every time: while it is important, it only applies on talk pages. If the page doesn't have "Talk:" or "talk:" as part of the page name, then please don't sign your contribution. The Knights Who Say Ni 17:11, May 9, 2011 (UTC)

You only need to sign your edits on Talk Pages, not articles. - Nick O'Demus 14:45, May 13, 2011 (UTC)

Not really, no. It's unnecessary to link the same page so many times. Also please don't post comments into a conversation I'm having with another user, unless you wish to contricute to that discussion. Start a new one like I'm doing now. Thanks. Jayden Matthews 12:14, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Much better

Just thought I'd let you know you're doing much better. Keep up the good work. Jayden Matthews 06:49, May 15, 2011 (UTC)
