Sorry I won't do it again ( with the prefect stuff)

Pokeball32102 19:32, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

Greetings Nick O'Demus,

Many apologies if this has been brought up before and/or is an idiotic idea, but wouldn't it be best for the HP Wiki logo to look more like the real HP logo seen on the films? If we need it, I did find this one from the Portugese version of HP Wiki. Again, if this has been discussed before, I apologize. --75px-CJSFan_Sig.pngBlack Pearl, HMS Interceptor, Queen Anne's Revenge 15:59, July 3, 2011 (UTC)

Power of the Hat...

Just something to think about, but couldn't the Sorting Hat put the three-headed dog, Fluffy, to sleep with its songs, or no... -- ImperiexSeed, 3:05 PM, July 6th 2011

Nick, should we make a page of a death eater with a white bushy beard and grey bushy hair? He has a scarred face and is holding Ron Weasley in the Order of The Phoenix. He is seen in the Forbidden Forest, The Entrance Courtyard (several times because one, when voldemort is talking to the hogwarts combatants, before harry leaps out of hagrids arms, and then again bellatrix commands him and other death eaters to "fight")

The Death Eater in the Department of Mysteries

I've done the page. make all the edits you need Unidentified Male Death Eater (III)

Please read!

Yeah, please block him, as he's been harassing me a lot lately, for a while now, and I've just been removing his posts, but I'm getting tired of doing it, so please just do it. -- ImperiexSeed, 8:15 PM, July 10th 2011

An Observation

You have recently made some revisions to the Spell page which removed a lot of information under the guise of "way too much speculation and "original research" (whatever that means). Firstly, this wiki clearly allows speculation to be noted in the articles, so long as it is marked as such, which it was. Special mention goes to the classification section, which was full of canonical information but you removed in favour a much less informative/useful version.

Likewise, the Dark Spells page was redirected by you to the Dark Arts without even bothering to merge the content (some of which is not included anywhere else on this wiki). You then had the gall to protect this page after your edit without deigning to state your case elsewhere (i.e. the talk page), all seemingly for no reason. And this is ignoring the fact that we are allowed offshoot articles like this one which expand on a subject mentioned elsewhere (like in the Dark Arts page).

Finally, you edited out my edit on the Counter-spell page saying that Sacrificial protection is a counter-charm (which it is).

I cannot possibly see the reasoning behind these edits save for you personally disagreeing with them (even though canon says otherwise) and strongly desire that you revert them or explain your reasoning, because all things considered, I don't think you should have made them. Green Zubat 04:25, July 17, 2011 (UTC)

Also, I just noticed you're also the one who protected the magic page without explaining it anywhere, which I also strongly desire that you either revert or explain, consideiring that this makes it extremely difficult to edit that page. I recognise that this was probably your intention, but the page is full of errors and I know you'd say "well post on the talk page" but I have done this and my post has gone ignored for a week now, despite being very large, so I doubt anyone will pay attention to it (if only to deny it). Couldn't you at least move it down to semi-protection? Green Zubat 04:38, July 17, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Magic - oh, I see. Well, I feel stupid now :s

With regards to original research, I understand that its not actually canon, though I personally see no reason to remove it from the article (incidentally, I was originally against original research, as I am also associated with a stricter wiki, however from the look of this place when I joined it seemed like this wiki allowed that sort of thing). Is it therefore OK for me to assume then that original research (previously exiting or otherwise) should be moved to "Behind the scenes"?

And as you recommend, I will make my case to one of the other admins with regards to Dark Spells; thanks for your time.Green Zubat 17:51, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

And btw, Apparation is never stated to be a spell as far as I remember, its just something wizards can do. Hence, it shouldn't come into the picture except possibly in the Behind the scenes section.Green Zubat 18:12, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

HPWiki Chat

Hi, Nick O'Demus

I really like the Harry Potter Wiki Chat :D. But I was wondering, shouldn't there be a Chat policy, because I've been writing with people, who have been asked personal questions, etc. They really didn't like it. And I wouldn't like it either

I hope you and the other admins will consider it

Hey, Nick. Hithenamesbob re-created Zara Malfoy again. Can you delete and protect it, and block him? Thanks. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 05:41, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

I apparently can't figure out how to simply post something. I'm not entirely certain why my page on parchment plays was deleted, because of "fanon". It was just a definition. Can someone please explain that to me?

Merlin Order

Hi, thank you very much for the Order. It is great to know that my work is appreciated. Have already a nice day - or night, dependent in which country you live. Harry granger 21:54, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

Molly Weasley

A number of problems:

  • I never said offensive magic = dark magic, but she did use seriously dark magic (Petrifying curse, Killing Curse take your pic) and she threaten to use dark magic in the lower echelons too.
  • Dark Arts is a category of magic, duelling is not. Duelling just describes one's ability to fight another magic users, it is not appropriate to discuss her Dark Arts skills there (nor her skill in any of the other categories of magic, like Charms or Transfiguration).
  • If you don;t agree with my edit, change it. Don't blindly revert it or you might delete some information (which you did, besides the Dark Arts stuff)

Green Zubat 23:32, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

With regards to Molly Weasley: I did check the revision history, checked it thrice, actually. You clearly did a blind revert; aside from removing the info about Dark magic you also put the info about jinxes and hexes back into Charm...which incorrect categorisation.
As for the Ginny Weasley page, her inheritance is what gives her such magical skill, hence it fits in the "Magical skills and abilities" section.
On both pages you don't seem to want to acknowledge their ability to cast Dark magic (I'm assuming because you think it looks bad on them or something, which is not the cast; dark =/= evil). Instead you keep trying to push the information into inappropriate sections. For example, you changed Ginny's page to have a Hexes secion, which would be fin if she'd only been sen to use hexes, but that's not the case, she's also been known to cast a very powerful reductor curse. That fact however, you tried to slip into the duelling section, which is inappropriate*. Because Ginny has used Curses and Hexes it naturally follows that we should have a section on her page for "Dark Arts", sine they are both.
  • Slipping things like the Reductor curse into the duelling section is bad practise because its a double standard; duelling is about how well you can fight an opponent, not about how well you can use Dark magic, hence we could theoretically shove charms in there as well instead of having a separate category, but you don't feel the need to do this, only with the Dark magic.
All in all, we should strive to categorise a character's magical skills and abilities by the canonical classifications known to us as best we can, so if a character uses Charms we should have a section for it. If they transfigure something we should have a section for Transfiguration and, yes, if they pratise the Dark Arts at any point we should have a section for that too. Green Zubat 17:35, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Oh, and I almost forgot: with regards to film canon vs. book canon, I was under the impression (well, actually I was told so by another admin) that non-book sources are canon unless they contradict the books, at which point they're non-canon. Molly's duel with Bella does not appear to contradict the books and hence must be canon.

Bellatrix Lestrange Cleanup

I dont know if you assign anyone or what not, but the Bellatrix Lestrange page needs alot of cleaning up. People have gone in and edited it to the movie and not the book, i began noticing it a lot from the Department of Mysteries on. I thought it should be noted and I know your the head honcho around here so I notified you.

Re:You alright?

They're doing renovations on my apartment building again, and though it isn't as intense as last year (four months living out of boxes), it's still very frustrating and bad for one's general mood. When I found that most of the year of birth and year of death categories I'd put a lot of effort into building had been deleted, on the grounds that a category for a specific year isn't warranted when there's only one character known to have been born/died in that year, I got upset. It doesn't seem logical to me to lump characters known to have been born in, say, 1821, 1823, and 1827 into "Category:1820s births," because the top-level category is "Individuals by year of birth," not "Individuals by decade of birth." Characters were only intended to be listed at the decade level if their exact year of birth was unknown but the decade could be pinned down. I wanted to focus on updating the James Potter, Lily Evans, and Vernon Dursley articles with some of the new information that's come out of Pottermore, and having to rebuild the year of birth/death categories instead is just really frustrating. Starstuff (Owl me!) 09:40, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Bees building a hive in the wall? Reading that I honestly don't feel I have a right to complain about what I'm going through right now.
This year they're painting the building's exterior, which isn't as much of a disruption as last year's complete overall of the heating system, but it's frustrating going to the trouble of putting a tarp over a window that doesn't quite close properly and then having the power-washers decide to pack it in for the day early, forcing you to take down the tarp and put it back up the next morning because it's too hot to just leave it up for the night.
I'm going to go through the year of birth categories. If you want to handle the year of death categories, that'd be great. Starstuff (Owl me!) 11:31, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Pages with links towards pages deleted

There's a lot of red links towards J.K. Rowling's family: the page were deleted because they are not HP related... But should we not consider that some of them are a little HP related? First words of HP1: "For Jessica, who loves stories for Anne, who loved them too; and for Di, who heard this one first."

  • I have begun to erase some of them, but I have left the infos. And... I prefer to ask you before going on. There's a lot in disambiguation pages, for exemple : Anne (disambiguation), Roger (disambiguation) and others in dates, I think we could leave the infos about birth or death about Anne Rowling for example, but sister's marriage and so, it's not useful, isn't it?
  • There's a lot of anon talk pages or archives with these links, do you want a list of all pages to check them?
  • There's files too, for exemple a Anne and Peter's marriage in J.K.'s gallery.

Have a great day. --   Famini    talk    contribs   09:46, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry to disturb you, I didn't check who deleted the pages. I don't want to reconsider anything: this wiki has its own policies and it's fine for me (I only disagree when some people want to enforce your policies on the french wiki as if we were your subordinates). I'm just asking this because:
  • There's always links (red links), so there's a risk to see these page created again. Some people work with Special:WantedPages. Just for that I have begun to delete the links, but I can't delete all of them because some of them are in talk pages or archive talk pages.
  • There's a no sense to create in-universe characters as J.K. Rowling or Daniel Radcliffe (where as a "behind a scene" is sufficient) and to say that real people mentionned in dedications of the books are not related at all.
  • Here I return to my work on the French wiki where I have enough to do--   Famini    talk    contribs   11:02, August 7, 2011 (UTC)

Locked articles

Burning of the Burrow could probably be downgraded to semi-protected. Part-troll ... the user responsible for creation has been active lately, and made this edit to his talk page to alter Seth's comments on the matter at hand. Its such a minor subject that it doesn't deserve even partial protection (to be honest, I don't think it even deserves an article since I'm sure it was meant as a joke rather than an actual characteristic description) but I'm loathe to lower the protection since I think the user will just edit it again to the way he wants. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:30, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Questions about Harry Potter

I am a big HP fan but I have a few questions to ask

1. What would a boggart take shape of if the person's worst fear was a boggart?

2. Could someone cast Riddiklus on another's boggart?

3. How old was Voldemort when he died?

4. Why didn't Charlie marry?

Try your best to answer them; if you don't know just put N/A on the question ;-) Mother Fudger! 12:49, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Pottermore information

Alright, with the early opening beta of Pottermore underway, new information is starting to dribble onto the site: case in point - Ollivander's first name is revealed, and the name of McGonagall's mother. Now, with this being a closed beta, we're going to be hard pressed to verify this info unless at least one of us has entry to Pottermore. If we don't, we're going to have to trust the user base until we can verify it. I have been accepted myself for early entry, but am still waiting for access. So the question is, has anyone else applied for/ got early entry so we can effectively screen for fanon? - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 17:07, August 15, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Nick. There have been a few discussions over the past couple of years regarding the Hogwarts House crests. Specifically which version of the crests to use. Now that a brand new set of crests have been revealed on Pottermore I thought that now might be an ideal time to reignite the debate. They would undoubtebly be the most canocial images in existence, as they come directly from Rowling's own site. What do you think? Jayden Matthews 17:28, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

Will do. Here are the crests. Jayden Matthews 18:09, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
If I may interject; while the images are probably the most "canon" at the moment, the images themselves aren't great due to the large amount of dead space because of the surrounding banner. Placing them in an infobox as they stand at the moment will render the actual crest very small. If we can get tighter crops on the actual crests themselves, that would be better if they stood up resolution-wise. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 19:13, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

Hi, if we use these crests - I would like them - I would suggest a change of the infobox-colours for Gryffindor. I made an example:

Re:Vandalism attack

I assumed was a one-time vandal and gave the standard warning. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware the IP's action fit a pattern of ongoing disruption, because I've gotten lost in all the new information coming out of Pottermore, and thus I probably haven't been monitoring the recent changes list as closely as I should.

Thanks for keeping an eye on things! Also, thanks for this, which put a huge smile on my face. Starstuff (Owl me!) 18:12, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

New ideas for templates

I was thinking there could be a template that says that the subject of an article appears in a non-canon role in one or more of the movies (for example, Neville gives Harry Gillyweed in the Goblet of Fire movie, not Dobby, or how Goyle is killed in Deathly Hallows Part 2) and to not change it to fit the movie. I'm not sure what the saying could be at the top, but I think it's a nice idea.

My second idea is a template that says the article contains British spelling (such as "Defence" or "Neighbour" or "Colour") and to not change it to fit American spelling.

What do you think? -HoboHunter28- (Leave me an owl!) 17:40, August 22, 2011 (UTC)

I'm sort of thinking "Imperio" (maybe because people act differently under the Imperius Curse, if you get what I mean) could be the spell for the first. "Petrificus Totalus" should be used for the second. -HoboHunter28- (Leave me an owl!) 18:07, August 22, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Stuff

I think I'm too invested in my Slytherin identification to start thinking of myself as a Ravenclaw outside Pottermore. I have a Slytherin costume and everything, but I was actually going to give it to a friend, because it's consuming valuable real estate in my closet and there's not going to be another movie to wear it to. Evanna is lucky enough that she can probably just go bum a spare Gryffindor costume from the wardrobe department if she really wants.

I keep forgetting about the stuff on the main page that's supposed to be updated on a semi-regular basis. Sorry. >_< Starstuff (Owl me!) 05:57, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

I've been running into friction with User:Green Zubat. This user has basically accused me of fabricating some of the new information from Pottermore, describing a link to a story that had gone dead, but was live when I checked it, as a "so-called source" and then requesting that I provide exact descriptions of what it says on Pottermore instead of just trusting the changes I'd already made. At the same time, this user has added original research/speculation, assuming that Tongue-Tying Spell and Tongue-Tying Curse must be different spells (see Talk:Tongue-Tying Curse, as well as Talk:Jelly-Legs Curse).

It's not my fault that other people's Pottermore e-mails haven't come and that they can't verify stuff for themselves. Thus I do not want to have to single-handedly bear the burden of demonstrating the veracity of the new Pottermore information to the satisfaction of people who can't take my word for it. Sorry. :( Starstuff (Owl me!) 01:30, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

That link is actually still available on the InsaneJournal feed here. I first found out the actual article from was dead by reading a post by Green Zubat on Talk:Tongue-Tying Curse. I posted the InsaneJournal link there, and was thanked for it, but then I saw the history of the Tongue-Tying Curse article and the accusatory tone of this edit summary really got to me. It would've been sufficient to just point out the link was dead; the finger-pointing/assuming bad faith was unnecessary.
Good to know it isn't only me who's encountered friction with this user. I understand wanting to ensure all the new information coming out of Pottermore checks out, but I'm the only user on this wiki (aside from User:Parodist, I believe), who's currently got access to the site, and it's difficult trying to get that information added to the wiki while at the same time having to handle questions about the accuracy of said information. I want to be polite and helpful, but my forbearance has its limits. I'd intended to get the potions information up today, but I had to spend time answering Green Zubat's questions about the spells instead. Starstuff (Owl me!) 03:12, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

In 1996 Albus Dumbledore used a spell on Cornelius Fudge, Dolores Umbridge, Kingsley Shacklebolt and John Dawlish when he teleported along with Fawkes. Does this spell have an article and, if so, where is it (i mean what is the name?). --Danniesen October 16 2011, 21:04 (Denmark)
