Conjectural Event Titles

It occurred to me that we made up the names of all the events of the Second Wizarding War which could lead to issues with conjectural titles. I started a discussion to get this figured out. Forum:Conjectural Event Titles --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 19:26, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Nick, It's Jayden. Just wanted to say thanks for the happy birthday. I've got some free time on my hands so I thought I'd come back to the wiki for a bit:) Jayden Matthews 07:48, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Really good, thanks. Congratulations on your adminship by the way. Do you think it would be OK if I had rollback rights? Jayden Matthews 19:39, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

Rollback and a question

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll deal with that now. Also, while looking at the page I noticed you had been nommed for admin. It's a few months old and someone really should have reminded me about it. Please do not think I was ignoring it. Since I'm having some heavy RL commitments at present, I find myself away a little more that I would like. My question is this: do you still wish to be an administrator? Let me know, and if yes, I'll upgrade your user rights as soon as I can. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:47, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

I know how burn out can be; I've suffered from it myself and find taking a break every now and then refreshing. I've upgraded your user rights to Administrator now; you'll find a lot of shiny new buttons available to you now. I would suggest reading this and this if this is your first time with SysOp rights. They pretty much outline how administrators should behave and conduct themselves. If you have any specific questions, then feel free to ask me or another admin through our talk pages, or by logging on to IRC for real time communication. Congratulations! - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 14:33, June 8, 2010 (UTC)

Unspeakable

Hey Nick :-). Congrats on becoming our newest admin! I've talked it over with Cavalier One, and we'd like you to be an Unspeakable as long as you accept. Let me know! Cheers, Grunny (talk) 08:07, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

That's no problem :). Just whenever you do get time, know you can use the {{Unvote}} on FANs. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 09:19, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

Ifeoma Oboko

Hi, I saw your edit to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Film). Are you sure that Ifeoma played Gwenog Jones? O. k. she is a coloured actress. That would be right. But the photo they show in the film showed a caucasian actress. What is your source? Harry granger 18:35, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

S. Fawcett

Hi, I saw your edit to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Film). S. Fawcett was in the book the girl. Jack Bagley is a boy. He could better be Stebbins, who was the boy of the two snogging pupils who were punished by Severus Snape. Harry granger 19:18, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

boudy double

dude the pics youre putting of rose weasley and the nieces and nephews are body coubles of the original actors, if want the real actors go to the rose weasley page and you'll find her pic —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mss44 (talkcontribs).

Congratulations and a Question

Congrats on the Admin. Also, do you think we should make an effort to make the biographies of major characters more chronological. For example, if you look at the Sixth Year section or the Third Year section of Ronald Weasley, you will find that the year is broken up into paragraphs each dedicated to some subject related to that year, but not necessarily telling a very linear story. I would like your thoughts, thanks and congratulations, --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 06:04, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

That was supposed to say the Sixth Year section of Harry Potter.--JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 07:47, June 10, 2010 (UTC)
Any idea how to create a second user page like Seth has for his projects or Cav1s project scarhead? --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 06:04, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 06:16, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

Death Eaters

OK, will do. Thanks for the support. There's been something I've been meaning to do for awhile, but I thought I should it discuss it with you first, as you are an administrator now:) and it would mean changing alot of articles. If it's OK with you, I'd like to remove "pure or half-blood" from those Death Eater's that have it in their infoboxes. J.K. Rowling has said the muggle borns can become Death Eaters under rare circumstances, Who's to say Dolohov wasn't such a case? I'd also like to remove the line that says: "he/she was either killed or imprisoned after the Battle of Hogwarts". The relevant text from Deathly Hallows reads: "Death Eaters were fleeing or else being captured". This confirms that at least some of them escaped. Would this be OK, or am I making a fuss over nothing? Jayden Matthews 08:41, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

Project

Hey, as you know, I've been working on trying to make some of the bio for Ron be more chronological. Could you review User:Hcoknhoj/Projects and look at the text for the Third Year above the line? Tell me what you think? --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 06:34, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

I thought it might be too verbose and detailed. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 18:25, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

Infobox pics

On the talk pages for Talk:Harry Potter and Talk:Ronald Weasley there are now discussions for changing the infobox pictures. In light of the fact that no one seemed opposed to the change on Hermione Granger after we spent weeks fighting about the picture it replaced, I wanted to know if any admin was going to weigh in on these votes. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 19:34, June 22, 2010 (UTC)

New blog policy in effect

As per the vote on the proposed blog policy, I am pleased to say that the new policy is now in effect. Users have one week to retrieve any work they want from the blogs. After that time, feel free to begin deleting blog posts that do not adhere to the new rules. I'll be conducting a massive sweep of the pages soon myself. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 11:26, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

The main infobox picture can't be canon, right? There is a McDonald's in the background. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 14:21, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

Aurora Sinistra

Once again, even though he has no proof, Pol187 is adding photos to Aurora Sinistra, and changing the article to fit the pictures from the movies. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 14:00, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I see what was done, but I disagree. That is not proof, but b/c she is the only person with dark skin. Until we get serious actual physical proof, we can't do that. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 14:04, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Aurora Sinistra

I would say the image currently on the Vector article is correct. If you look carefully, you can see that the collar of the cloak is identical, and the frills on her (I don't know how to call it... say, turtleneck?) match the ones on the lego minifigure. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 22:27, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Nick. Just to let you know, there's a forum underway to discuss a potential change to the site's logo. Jayden Matthews 21:56, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Activity Log

Are you having trouble seeing edits back past the last hour or so? Also, yesterday it was displaying seconds from the previous edits in thousands instead of converting to minutes and hours. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 22:08, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

I saw that too. The contribs log on my page has a few edits out of order too. It's ok, I was wondering why no articles had been promoted and found that they have FAs until November. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 22:14, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
I don't even have the option of viewing anything before your edit to Lavender Brown about 45 minutes ago. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 22:26, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
You know at the bottom of the activity feed, it usually letts you click on a link that lengthens the list. I don't have that option. 35 minutes is the furthest out right now. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 22:37, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

On a different subject, do you remember it what book Dumbledore describes the DEs as (forgive me for paraphrasing) "the weak looking for power, the thuggish looking for more refined forms of cruelty..." --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 22:41, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

I'm referencing Riot at the Quidditch World Cup and the first part of the article is about the origin and demised of the DEs and have been looking for that quote for two days. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 22:49, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Sorting Hat

The article for Sorting hat says that it considered putting Neville in Hufflepuff. The source is from the Lexicon, but it doesn't seem kosher to me. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 19:10, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Info Box

Hey Nick,

I was just wondering how you can add the main info box that appears at the top of most of the pages. I think it would be really cool to have one for my user page and i think they also look really cool,

Thanks for the help!

HarryPotterobsessed1232 01:22, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

Antonin Dolohov

Hi Nick. The release of a recent image confirms that Arben Bajraktaraj will be playing Antonin Dolohov in Deathly Hallows, which means he also did so in Order of the Phoenix. I'm telling you because, as I'm sure you know, we've preiviously claimed that Richard Trinder played Dolohov, and then we changed it because IMDB said it was Richard Cubison. I think the matter requires an administrive hand. Thanks:) Jayden Matthews 13:01, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

how d'you make get a order of Merlin and those information pages? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gina Jones (talkcontribs).

Unidentified employee.

I´m sorry, but I don´t know it myself. The image was added by Pol 871, who added it to the Hogwarts page, and I merely created the coresponding article. --Rodolphus 07:09, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

I think we should keep an eye on User:Jeffrey1993, b/c I have a feeling this account is another incarnation of User:Jeffrey1992. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 15:15, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Creatures and Beasts

Hi! I noticed that none of the "Beasts" are categorized as "Creatures". This should be fixed or it was intended to be that way? If it was...why? Thanks Wise Whim 21:40, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

"Articles placed in categories should not also be placed in that category's parent category; for example, articles in Category:Hufflepuffs should not also be placed in Category:Students."
Harry Potter Wiki: Layout guide

I clearly missed that one! I'll always be the annoying person that calls to support lines and then reads the manual...some of them do have helpful information...I'm sorry for bothering you and I'll correct the edits. It won't happen again, I promise.

Past tense

Past tense is used in the personality, physical description, and relationships sections too, right? If it is, a lot of the major articles need to be looked at. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 23:54, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

Unidentified Death Eater (VII)

Could you look at the source. First I don't think this is a legitimate source. Second the source doesn't actually confirm the statement, so the article is most speculation that should be put in the BTS. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 04:04, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

Dress Robes

I added a little blurb about the Slug Club Christmas Party, b/c in the movie it appears that the students are wearing them. Think we can expound a little on what they look like. Mens' dress robes being kind of like the robe equivalent of a Tux, and Ladies' being very much like a traditional dress or gown? --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 15:00, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

FA

Hi Nick. Could you please change our FA? If I´m right, it should have been changed days ago. Thanks.--Rodolphus 11:43, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Wikiproject

An unregistered user just created the following page Harry Potter Wiki:WikiProject and a category Category:WikiProjects. Could you look into this? I'm going to give the heads up to a couple other admins as well. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 02:07, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

It's been taken care of. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 07:39, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
Also, could you talk to User:Donmax about how he edits BTS sections. He just adds a dash to the end of the last bulleted piece of information and fills in, not even trying to use an asterisk or format like he's supposed to. For proof see the edit history of Gringotts Wizarding Bank or Forbidden Forest. I've practically begged him to edit correctly, but to no avail. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 05:27, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Featured Article

I see the article Deathly Hallows has already been added to the main page. I agree it should be given an extended run like Snape, but I think it would make more sense to have it up for all of November, when DH: Part 1 comes out. This presents two options:

  1. We can take down Deathly Hallows, switch it with another article on the FA list, and put it up again for an extended run come November
  2. We leave Deathly Hallows up, nominate another DH-related article for FA, and put it up for an extended run in November.
If you do option number two we've had Elder Wand sitting on the FA Noms list for months, Grunny, LVKTVJ, and I have all done significant work to improve it. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 14:47, July 22, 2010 (UTC)

Help

Could you look into Traitorous Muggle and Unnamed remote island please. The unregistered creator tried to tell me the info came from the extra stuff section of jkrowling.com, but I couldn't find anything. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 04:03, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

Scratch that on the Island. That info is also on the page about Hermione's father. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 04:16, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
I've had it up to here with User:Donmax. No matter how many times I ask him, he continues to screw up BTS sections. And, I would have relented on those two articles if he could have given me exactly where he got the info from. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 15:00, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

Cottage

Could you talk to the unregistered/Donmax who keeps adding the BTS stuff about Lego. On Potter cottage, he keeps adding this info to the references section, that I have incorporated into the article and referenced. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 04:53, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

14 Feb/Feb 14

I think this is self directing. Wikia won't let me move Feb 14 to 14 Feb and when you click 14 Feb it takes you to Feb 14. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 04:02, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

Also, yesterday someone moved Return of the Dark Lord to Return of Tom Riddle. Having to change all the articles where that is referenced would be an pain. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 05:10, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

Battle of the Department of Mysteries

I think we need to note somewhere that the DEs somehow managed to recover from their hits. We know Dolohov participates in the Death Chamber, but he was incapacitated by Harry. It is likely that while Harry and Neville were regrouping with Luna, Ginny, and Ron, that some of the DEs had their curses reversed, b/c as I said Dolohov fought until the end of the battle, and doesn't Harry say that there were like 10 DEs surrounding him when he was about to turn over the Prophecy? I count 5 DEs down just by Harry and Hermione before they regrouped with the other group: Nott, the 2 unnamed that attacked in the time chamber, Jugson, and Dolohov. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 20:22, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

Statute

I saw the edit to the bTS section. I thought we used the introduction the The Tales of Beedle the Bard (real) to justify the existence of JK Rowling (witch). Meaning that the information in that particular BTS would be false, since we consider JKR established in the Wizarding world. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 16:35, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Videos

Personally, I'm not entirely sure about videos on the site at all. I'm worried that they might break copyright restrictions and licenses. In any case, videos should be limited to HP-specific, and only to illustrate a certain point, in my view. Random videos serve no purpose. If a user wants them on their user page, they can link to Youtube. Feel free to delete any you come across that you're unsure of, and I'll see about writing up a video use policy. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:40, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Administrator/ video policy

I have no objections to nominating either to the position; just make sure they accept the nomination and then put it up on the Requests for Permissions page and let the community vote. As for the video policy addendum; looks good to me, but we may need to adjust this wording: Video uploads are for official use in articles only. to Video uploads are for use in articles only. Videos allowed to be used in articles include publicly released material such as trailers or promotion reels. Videos not allowed include partial or full scenes from released films. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:32, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

Article Deathly Hallows Part 2

Hi, Nick!

I saw that the unlinking of the names of actors and roles were taken back on Part 1. There are also unlinkings on Part 2. I imagine that was overseen. Can you perhaps take them back with a special button or what admins have for quick undoings? I thought it is perhaps helpful when the links are back. Harry granger 18:42, August 31, 2010 (UTC)
