Admin stuff we talked about on IRC. Set it up whenever. I read over the changes from 1.14, nothing major except the namespace change. My bot is currently changing it everywhere on the wiki. Everything is done except for the "User talk" namespace (its only on "User talk:" currently, so its gonna be a while). A few things might have gotten botched, I honestly cannot be sure: he's made 3500+ edits tonight so. He might be a bit overzealous. Is it possible that I as well as Starstuff, Oread, and Seth Cooper can be in the running to become an admin. I have a fair amount of edits. I have been trying to Revert as much vandalisim as possible, I am also has rollback power and I am a prefect. I have made many pages including the ones my "sock puppets" created. I do now know alot about the policy such as you use the Template:Vandal to warn users.

The following things are reasons for blocking users:

  • Vandalism
  • Spam
  • Inappropriate account naming
  • Disruption
  • Fanon
  • Personal attacks
  • Blanking pages
  • Copyright violations

I also know much of the policy off by heart by now. Template:Fanon is used for warning a user of their fanon.

For the house-points game, we can prehaps have quidditch teams that we compete in the Quidditch Cup. If you think this idea is good please can you post ideas how we are going to compete. We already have a gryffindor team and a Hufflepuff team. Cheers! -- HellaboreHallows(Deathly Hallows)

It will be competing for points in the House points game. Do you have any ideas to what we do.

These are some of my ideas:

  • All teams have to do rewrites on one article. A refree (Admin) judges which is the best rewrite then uses the re write for the actual page and awards the winning house a number of points.

The only real difference between a bureaucrat and an admin, so far as I know, is that bureaucrats have the ability to give or revoke admin rights. This is something that is done so seldomly that there really isn't a call for adding more bureaucrats to the roster. Admin tools, on the other hand, are something that have to used on a daily basis for wiki maintenance, like deleting files and blocking troublemakers. So there will always tend to be more active administrators than bureaucrats on any given wiki. Starstuff (Owl me!) 21:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I think bureaucrats have the ability to give rollback rights, too, whereas admins don't. But, again, this is something that happens rather infrequently, and I think the two bureaucrats on staff currently have it covered. Starstuff (Owl me!) 21:53, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
I'll reply here to keep the conversation together. Admins handle all the day to day duties, as far as I know the only difference is upping people's rights. I'm available very often and John Reaves is active enough that if you leave him a message he'll reply within a couple of days. I'm replying to the message you left here. I hadn't considered the issue of partiality with my proposal to have a referee for each House. I'm not really sure how this could be resolved, but my concern, basically, is that requiring a potential team member to stay on the sidelines because they're a referee would leave some Houses without enough regularly active members to build a full Quidditch team. This wouldn't be an issue for Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, which both have at least seven regularly active members, but in Slytherin, it's kind of just me, Jayce, and Smonocco at this point, and in Hufflepuff there's even less. If I am taken out of the picture, then there will only be Jayce and Smonocco to pull weight on the Slytherin team, presuming Smonocco wants to participate.

Which is why I think the referee panel should be made up of people who aren't deeply involved in the House Points Game, like Cavalier One, DarkJedi, and yourself. That way Oread, Seth, Hellabore, and myself could be members of our House Quidditch teams. We could be captains, which would act as team leaders/project coordinators, but wouldn't have any say in which article revision is chosen, like the referee panel.

I know this seems excessively complicated. But I'm looking for a solution that will work smoothly for everyone. Starstuff (Owl me!) 13:47, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Having done one edit, I thought if I "practiced" using the tools on my home page I would learn without inadvertently messing up a page. I have been and am reading through the guidelines and instructions, and am happy to do that but I admit I fear making a mistake. That's what has forestalled me from getting on with it, fear. I would really like to start with something simple, like correcting dead links, but even having read the instructions (unless I am looking at the wrong ones) I am still confused....
