Please don't add delete templates to non-existent user pages since this creates the page and makes that term show up in searches. Angela talk 21:34, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

You can't delete users. These people hadn't edited here anyway. Special:Listusers shows everyone who ever edited any wikia. See Special:Activeusers for people who have edited the Harry Potter wiki. Angela talk 22:41, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I thought it was for this Wiki only. Sorry about that. John Reaves 22:47, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Signature Edit

What? It's not long at all (it's actually shorter than yours, because I don't include the date in mine) and "Send an Owl" is basically saying send me a message (which is why it links to my talk page). --Victor talk

Oh ok. Thats why I made it a "template". All I type now is {{User:Squishy Vic/sig}} --Victor talk

Thank you for the help!--AngelicDemon92 17:25, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism Edit

Thank you for letting me know that, I was unaware, good to know :) I was wondering if I could do something like that.I felt weird editing your user page, so I just deleted the vandalism, which unfortuantely was the only thing there. I felt better nothing, than what was there. I don't understand why people act that way, but that's a different discussion. :) Thanks again, for letting me know, I kind of looked at the diff page for each of them and hand corrected or copy/pasted how it was. Checking out the admin idea, and I agree we do need one.

Bonnie Wright Edit

I don't see what I did there.

AdminshipEdit

  • Hey, congradulations about your promotion!! And nice job on all the work! —Animagi/Prongs 02:42, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
BTW, could you fix the link to the community portal from Harry Potter Wiki:Community Portal to Harry Potter Wiki:Community portal on MediaWiki:Portal-url, because it currently redirects.. —Animagi/Prongs 01:24, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: SigEdit

Yes I'll do it, but would you be able to tell me how to do so please? -NighthawkLeader 07:52, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I think I've already done it. But if the coding is getting annoying on the pages I can always just type in a link to my userpage though. -Nighthawk Leader
    • I did have SUBST:NighthawkLeader in the signature box from when I set up a signature on another Wikia, but I've changed it now so that it doesn't include the SUBST and there is still no difference. But I'm fine with just typing in my username. -Nighthawk Leader
      • Oh wait sorry. I've been signing my name with the four tiles and I think that's why the coding is shown. Sorry for the inconvenience. NighthawkLeader
        • How do you clear the cache? (sorry not too experienced with this coding) NighthawkLeader
          • Oh that cache sorry :). I'll try that now. Thanks for all your help -NighthawkLeader 08:25, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
            • Well it doesn't seem like it worked. Oh well thanks anyway. I've put the userboxes that I had on my userpage into templates and copyed an age userbox across from another Wikia as well. I might try and fix the signature again tomorrow. Thanks again, NighthawkLeader

RE: Show/hideEdit

I know how, but I will have to search around a bit for the formating... —Animagi/Prongs 03:50, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

There is the NavFrame from Wikipedia, the one placed on templates, but that is not a good idea... Do you remember the [dismiss] thingy during the fundraiser on wikipedia? I am trying to find the sourcing for it and the MediaWiki page should be MediaWiki:Sitenotice close... but there is no source coding... —Animagi/Prongs 04:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
OK, I have found what we need. Read over Forum:Show-Hide button and Forum:ShowHide content on Wikia, and then install the Template:Hidden here. Then, install source coding for MediaWiki:Monobook.css from here, and the coding for MediaWiki:Monobook.js from the same page but at the javascript section. —Animagi/Prongs 04:32, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
BTW, could you update the MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning to a new formating, perhaps the one below:?

Please note:

Red copyright
  • All contributions to Harry Potter Wiki are considered to be released under the $2 (see $1 for details).
  • If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here.

You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource. Thank you.

Do not submit copyrighted work without permission!

Animagi/Prongs 04:44, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

OK, now create the MediaWiki:Sitenotice close page with the text dismiss. Maybe after creating it, the dismiss function will appear... but I don't know, will look up later.. —Animagi/Prongs 05:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks... Edit

...for the welcome, even if it was a form letter. :)

Spoiler now is now unlinked from public space, and can be deleted.--Todd Lyons 00:43, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Film Pictures Edit

Hello. I noticed that you had been doing some editing recently, so thought you might be a good person to ask: what is the position here on including screenshots from the films in the articles?

p.S. There are still copyedit errors in the Harry Potter wiki:copyrights page, which I was reading. 08:50, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Edit

Thanks for keeping this wiki alive and updated while all of us admins were gone. I'll be happy to help out again once I get myself re-oriented. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 09:47, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Sure, I'll check if the e-mail addy is correct. I don't recall receiving anything while I was away. Anyway, the reason behind the absence was that the wiki experienced a shortage of editors around early 2006. At that point, most of the regulars dismissed the wiki as hopeless. I tried to manage it on my own, but soon after, we had to move house, and I forgot all about the project. Now, we've pretty much settled down, so I have time again to work on the wiki. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 13:04, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Identity Edit

yes, that's the same Sandpiper, although I discovered just the other day that there is now a sandpiper2007 or something like that on wikipedia. The editing pattern is probably the same too, my favourite articles. I wasn't sure quite what tone to take in the articles, but I took the spoiler tag placed at the top of each page seriously, and went at it.

I noticed that the Severus Snape article is listed on the community portal page as a stub. I couldn't see how to change that or I would have.

I havn't noticed reams of ref tags all over the place either. while I am not necessarily a great fan of these, sometimes they can be helpful. Do you have a preferred method for inline referencing? Sandpiper 18:10, 21 February 2007 (UTC) I took out the repeated word from the HPW copyrights page. The rest seems to make sense, but , of course, I have no idea what it is meant to say. Sandpiper 18:22, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

message Edit

I'm afraid I hadn't really noticed how the old one looked, so hard to compare them. I did notice a very odd thing though. The message bar appeared at the top of a new page, I scrolled down the page, then scrolled back up. This time I didn't see the bar, just a little bit of text. I opened your user window, then clicked back on the window with the mmessage bar and it had reappeared. Scrolled down and up, and it went back to text. Odd. Never seen that happen on wikipedia.

Now, the bit I think I need to word carefully. I'm not sitting that close to the screen, so I didn't see the detail in the image at first. The owl is quite small, and on a patch of background. What i noticed initially was the shape of the background, which looked at first glance like a fancy shirt draped over a chair, with a patch of decoration in the centre. A formal dress shirt, if you see what I mean. I had to get in closer to see the owl. I picked up a copy of the owl pic to look at, but I stupidly saved what i was editing...so the message bar disappeared and I can't look at it now.

However, my very first reaction to the bar was, 'hey, someone's trying to make it look better'. So I hope this is not discouraging. Sandpiper 20:02, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I had some more owls, so looked at the image again. i was thinking that it would be better if the background of the image was transparent, so that the box colour showed through and surrounded the owl drawing. At the moment there is a rather odd squared off white section. Such things are posible in word, etc, but I don't know if they are here. Sandpiper 11:13, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
My recollection of doing this is that the background colour in the original image file has to be specified as 'transparent', but it is a while since I tried doing that and I don't recall precisely. It still might depend on the wiki software. Sandpiper 22:38, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

User list page Edit

have you looked at the user list page? It seems to start with a collection of obscenities and peoples addresses, where some bright spark has had the idea of creating names which will appear first iin the list. Should they be removed? Sandpiper 00:04, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Your reply might make practical sense, but legally such comments permanently diplayed on a website might be slanderous. Sandpiper 00:31, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Black Family tree Edit

by the way, I posted a new version of BFT. Don't know what you think? Sandpiper 00:33, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Bureaucrat status Edit

I don't see what's the use of keeping you an admin, actually. With your knowledge of the wiki coding and all the nice things you've done here, I think you'll make a great bureaucrat. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 17:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Rollback Edit

No, I didn't notice. I may have reverted a few people, but I never rolled back. Your owl did make me laugh, though. I guess that means I now have one other thing on the list of things to investigate. Sandpiper 21:09, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the rollback privelages! —Animagi/Prongs 23:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
and I see you even gave us somewhere to read what it is Sandpiper 00:07, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi there!Edit

Hi John, great to see that you've got this wiki rolling! :)

I see that you're an admin and a bureaucrat, which is a good thing for this wiki. I know that you're a good admin.

Though articles shouldn't be copied from Wikipedia, there should be a note on Emma Watson article that she was born in Paris, France. Or at least according to Wikipedia, that is.

I think this Wikia wiki's address should be added to the Harry Potter page on English Wikipedia. That could possibly attract more visitors.

And just as a side notice, I think this wiki will keep growing since the subject is intresting and wiki has already lots of contributers and unique articles - unlike the wiki I'm trying to revive, WarWiki.

Keep up the goob work! =) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 22:19, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't get it Edit

Forgive me for being a bit nosy, but you added bureaucrat/sysop rights to your doppelganger account and then had them removed. I'm used to you tinkering with the code here and everything, but this strikes me as a bit suspicious. I don't know why, it just does. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 09:44, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Okay, after more than a month without any complaints, you suddenly decide to take out the in-universe reminder, reasoning that this wiki "is for readers too". Next, you say that it's better to leave out all policies from the site notice than put one in, no matter how relevant or important it is.
Well, here's what I'll tell you. I didn't put that specific reminder in on a simple whim. Firstly, this wiki was built specifically for the readers. Not the editors. I know, most Wikipedians have that misconception, but I'd like to make it clear that this place is not a hang-out for Wikipedians looking for someplace else to stay. This is an online encyclopedia meant for the people, for the unwashed masses. You may know this consciously, and repeat the words, but your actions say otherwise. This wiki isn't "for the readers too", it's "for the editors too". And if you say putting up a notice directed at the editors shows that I think the wiki is meant not for the readers, I ask you if the name change notice you erected was meant for them either.
Secondly, instead of that in-universe reminder, I could have put in a reminder saying "Please do not vandalize, people," but what good would it have done? It's common sense that one should not vandalize, and vandals deliberately defy common sense, so of course it would be nonsense to put that. So would any other message along the lines of "Please write quality articles", "Please do not attempt to delete articles", "Please do not move articles unnecessarily". The only rule specific to this wiki, and which would not be dictated by common sense, is this in-universe policy (with the no-copy policy running a close second), and even well-meaning and experienced editors from Wikipedia could violate this policy. Of course, since most editors from Wikipedia know the rules, they obviously will not see the need to read the policy page. Thus the need to put in a reminder at the top of the page so that we don't have to fix the out-of-universe references editors put in every time they add to an article.
I view you as a respectable editor and fellow admin, and I trust you will be able to see the matter as I do. I would very much like to see your side, and be able to reach a consensus regarding this matter very soon. Cheers, The Chosen One (Choose me!) 17:02, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you Edit

I just wanted to thank you for giving me the rollback rights, so thanks! - User:Scrimgeour

Hmm..I'd make my own header, yet this one seems rather fitting. Well, thanks for welcoming me here. My Wiki has no members to welcome really, so it's nice to be a part of a full one. At Wikipedia, I greet members myself, so thanks again. --andrew120Go There. 21:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: NewsEdit

Oops sorry I didn't mean to tick the minor edit box. I think I just got used to ticking it after I did some minor edits on another Wiki NighthawkLeader 06:19, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Edits on the Snape article Edit

I apologize, I didn't know what you were talking about when you said "please explain this". I took that section out because there's another one just like it further down on the article. It explains the same section, but in greater detail. --MajinSuperVegeta 22:09, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Your mistake Edit

Your change to the page Hermione Granger was determined to be unhelpful and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any tests you want to do. We furthermore advise you to check the nature of the edits you are undoing before reverting them and not just revert on sight. You might be reverting to an edit a vandal made. Thanks. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 12:52, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

RollbackEdit

  • Hello, thank you for recently granting me rollback priveleges. But could you please tell me how to do rollbacks? I've been looking for a button or link for it but I haven't been able to find one NighthawkLeader 00:59, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

User talk:71.38.36.175

Please explain this edit. John Reaves (talk) 01:56, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

It was a typo... didn't mean for it to say darT arts, but darK arts. 71.38.36.175 02:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Rollback? Edit

I am fairly new to this site. May I ask what "rollback rights" are?

Thank you. Amy

Toby Jones Edit

I have no idea what this person who created the Toby Jones article did. They apparently started it with good intentions, but in the end the article kind of turned into vandalism I'd appreciate it if you could delete this article or do something. Thanks - HermioneArya 17:29, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Edit

Hi, I just wanna thank you for the welcome owl although I really don't know what to do next or even how to do anything except to do minor edits in errors I find, I hope you can give me some advice. Soccit99 19:19, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Reply to Reply Edit

Hi again, is there any kind of tutorial so I can start to edit correctly or something? Soccit99 20:29, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the help!!

Hermione Granger and Chosen One Edit

Hi there! I'd like to ask you both to work a little harder to assume good faith here -- you are both good admins who are experienced enough to work out the misunderstanding over Hermione Granger in a civil way. It looks like it was simply a case of a quick trigger finger on the revert button -- both sides could have looked a little closer at the history and tried to communicate on the article or user talk pages, before "fixing" a page that would have done no harm if it had remained as it was for five or ten minutes.
ChosenOne, your recent behavior and choice of words does seem a little bizarre, and I can understand why John has gotten upset -- the tone isn't appropriate treatment for someone you trust enough to have as an admin. While you may or may not have understood that using a template on his talk page would irritate him, you would have been better off taking an extra sixty seconds to explain in your own words, as the template didn't do anything to help a fellow admin to understand where the misunderstanding was.
Likewise, John Reaves, your harsh language and response is equally unacceptable -- while I understand your anger, and that you have already apologized for the outburst, I'd like to ask you to be more careful in the future. I stumbled across this small dispute because a new user asked the staff if this was normal behavior for Wikia admins -- please remember that your public behavior reflects on the project as a whole.
I think this was a very small and temporary problem, so I don't want to make it sound more important than it is; I just want you both to remember that your words here are public and (relatively) permanent, and visible to newbies and staff alike. Please be patient and kind to each other, and communicate to work out your issues. Thank you! — Catherine o' the ComTeam 22:01, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Email Edit

Sorry about that, I changed addresses and didn't see your note until you alerted me to its presence. I'm kinda busy right now, I'll get back to you as soon as possible though and get this whole mess cleaned up. My apologies in advance, and you should expect to see me back full time within the week. Best regards The Chosen One (Choose me!) 07:51, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Comming here Edit

But I already knew you, because I am a Wikipedian. We have a common ennemy, Folken. What do you think about this solution:

  • put all the stuff Folken wants to delete here: Horcrux
  • add a direct link in Wikipedia.

See you. Barraki 11:39, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
