Rollback

Thank you for granting my request for rollback rights. :)

Also, just a heads up - I've modified the done template, as it only works with your user name and signs with the date you edited it last.

From now on, just use

{{done}}~~~~

to achieve the same result.

See you around,

Changing "dismiss" button

Hi! I was wondering how to change the "dismiss" button (by Sitenotice) to say something else, like on here (it says "reducto"). I would like to do this on my wiki. I'm asking you because you are an admin. Thanks! Swannietalk to me 19:03, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of article

Hi John Reaves. I was just looking at the Recent Changes and noticed that someone with the IP 72.154.18.252 created a page called "Cow". The content is "MMMMMMOOOOOOOOOO" (etc.). Just thought I'd give you a heads up. Swannietalk to me 17:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Explanation

Since the admin is breathing down my neck, I should really explain why deleted this page. This is an exact copy off of Wikipedia, so I deleted and was planning on re-writing it so we could make it original, but in the middle of writing we had a balckout and i lost the content and wa splanning on doing it a little while later. I would also like to note that I have been editing here for a long time now, and theres no need to be concerned with what i do because I assure I am not here to vandalize this site. Just check my contributions. -Lemniwinks 19:51, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I should use the summary more, but I would also like to know what other edits are questionable, so I can avoid doing what ever I did wrong on those. And sorry my wording wasn't perfect, when I said Deleted I meant blanked.

Matilda Mavill

Have you seen this page yet on Matilda Mavill? The entire thing seems made up and has no backing in any of the books. Romulus Wolf 22:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I have a problem, maybe you could help me with it please?

I just created an account at the HP wiki and signed in; I copied everything down except my password, and now I can't remember the password. How would I change the password if I can't remember it? Could you delete my account and I can recreate it? My username's "KellyLCrutcher."

Unless you set an e-mail, your password cannot be recovered. John Reaves (talk) 18:08, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Deletion Regretted

I regret that you deleted "Harry Potter News"...perhaps there was a better place for that content in the Community Portal, but the filter so rigorously blocked me (as a text-browser user) from adding a link to that site that people ought to be working hard to take information from into articles that that seemed the best place to put it.There SHOULD be some section that records news.--Louis E./le@put.com/12.144.5.2 04:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

I'm just passing through this wiki, and I found quite a lot of vandalism from User:Voldpen15. I've cleared up all the vandalism I could find however I'm not sure about your wiki's blocking policy but you may want to look into one in this case. I've cross posted this to User talk:Chosen One (As he's listed as the other active admin) in hopes that whoever gets to it first can stop before any more damage is done. Hope everything here is going well.

New message bar

Hi! I was wondering how you got the New Messages Bar to have a picture in it. I want to know how for my wiki. I tried putting it in MediaWiki:Youhavenewmessagesmulti, but that didn't seem to work. Did you put something in JS or CSS? Thanks! Swannie 01:41, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. It goes in MediaWiki:Common.js, right? Swannie 15:09, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Sysopping

Thanks, John, I noted that already.

Nice to see we have more editors coming around.

Oh, and I believe my apology is long overdue. I'm sorry for having treated you so harshly back then. I was under a lot of stress, family matters, see, and I was in danger of losing my house. Now everything's pretty much under control, my temper included. Hope you understand. Let's try and get along.

Title Template

Hey, I was wondering what was up with {{Title}}, it doesn't work on this Wiki and I was wondering if its a software problem, if it just can't be done or if no one knew about it? There are some pages it would be nice to be able to change the title of so if we could get it working that'd be awesome. Thanks a lot. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 20:42, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey, just wanted to tell you that I got the {{Title}} template worked. We were missing a function + a class in our Common.js. Found it through JavaScript errors. Not sure how many pages here really need it, but it does work now. There is another error having to do with the search box though... :) -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 18:04, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Alas, I forgot to thank you! So thanks. It'll be nice working with you. And don't worry, I'm not planning on taking your job. :) -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 18:54, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

External Images

Hey, I'm a new user of wikia and I was just wondering how we use external images. Do we have to upload them onto wikia or can we use the link? Thank you. --Littlesparrow 12:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the promotion to admin. I hope to do this wiki credit and help it to grow and prosper. Thanks for having faith in me. I look forward to working with you. - Cavalier One 22:33, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Featured Articles

Hi - do we have a formal set procedure for promoting Featured Article nominations? I've come up with a few ideas for the Featured Article section (nomination length, promotion time, proper ordering of an FA queue and updating the main page, etc), and wanted to know if we had any guidelines to follow and incorporate. Since the Featured Article section is dear to my heart, I really want to do it justice. - Cavalier One 12:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Excuse me

Could you do something about the guy who is making the DH chapters and please delete the chapter pages. Thanks. Syugecin

Moving + Temp. arrangement

Hi! I'd like to notify you that next Saturday, September 15, I will be moving house to Germany. As it will take some time to get my internet connected ( a few months or so), I will be unable to edit or contribute to the wiki until then. Now, since there will be only one active bureaucrat (namely you) left upon my departure, I will be appointing DarkJedi613 to be temporary bureaucrat in my place. Should something happen to you while I am gone (be taken ill or something), DarkJedi will be there to cover for you while I am gone.

I will be implementing the arrangement in the middle of next week. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on my talk page or via email. Thanks, and cheers! The Chosen One (Choose me!) 14:51, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Of course, I understand your feelings. I am pretty sure you don't plan on getting sick, or for more editors to turn up all of a sudden, or for something inconvenient to happen to you. However, this is my call. This is a precautionary measure. You may not see the need for it, but stuff does happen, and at the worst possible time too. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 08:43, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Get off my back, John. I can decide for myself. If you want to report me to Central, fine. Report me to Central. I suggest you get some reading glasses first though. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 07:49, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh yes, I almost forgot. How did you ever come to the conclusion that I was promoting DJ for good? I would never do that. I know perfectly well that I am not the ruler of this wiki. I have known that for a very long time, longer, perhaps, than you would even claim to be on this wiki. My actions attest to that. My attitude towards my fellow editors attests to that. My efforts towards creating a closer, more collaborative community capable of producing high-quality articles attest to that.
You accused me once of abandoning the wiki, of not caring enough about it. I make it a point to log on at least once a day and fix something in the site. Haven't I proven myself in that respect? You accused me of making my decisions unilaterally. The past month or so, I have discussed every matter from spelling conventions to layout with our fellow editors. Haven't I proven myself in that respect? Or will you stop pestering me only when I come to you and beg for your permission to approve somebody's rollback rights or write this official policy or what? Now, I actually do something that is supposed to affect only me (the wiki surely won't suffer) - namely, appointing a temp, a temp crat to stand in for me while I am gone - and you say that, when appointing "new" crats, I should ask for the consensus of the community? Who said anything about new? I sure didn't. Besides, nobody else seems to have a problem with it. Only you.
So now you try to go over my head and tell Wikia that I am out of order. I have nothing against that. If I put a toe out of line, I appreciate it when people tell me that I did, so that I can fix my mistake - after all, who wants to stay a clumsy pig? The only catch here is that I, too, went to Wikia staff, told them the circumstances, and was told that I was perfectly within my rights to appoint a temp crat in my stead. Now you decide that you don't like this little arrangement, because you'll be here anyway, and the chances that something will happen to you are slim, so slim that the chances of an asteroid hitting the Earth in the next 20 minutes are greater by a thousandfold. So you tell me your concerns, I tell you mine, you still don't like the idea, and you go to Wikia staff, tell them what a dick I am for wanting to make my own decisions myself, and expect me to capitulate and bow down before you, begging for forgiveness and whatnot. I most certainly am not, not when I know that I am perfectly within my rights to authorize this arrangement.
We've been through this before, John. Don't you remember? You accused me of being a dick, and then you yourself went out of your way to be one yourself, trying to ban me and all that. We got over that, didn't we? We apologized, at the very least. Don't do this again. Not when I'm about to leave and all. Not when I know that I at least am not stepping out of line in my efforts to ensure that this wiki we have worked so hard to build is well taken care of.
Now, unless you are the more gifted long-lost son of Sybill Trelawney or are able to perform Legilimency, don't talk to me about there being no necessity, because who are you to predict the future? Besides, you had me appoint you so that you wouldn't have to bother Wikia staff about appointments in case I left or something - and now you tell me that, in case you get sick, Wikia staff can handle the appointments? The Chosen One (Choose me!) 14:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Any objections?

Hi - just wondering if you had any objections to me starting to update the main page Featured Article and selected picture since the others have been up for a while? Incidently, should we have a vote similar to the FA vote for the selected picture?

On a side note, the [[User:Cavalier One/Featured Article proposal|FA guide]] guide I wrote: any objections to me posting it as policy and implementing it? - Cavalier One 07:57, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: HPW:FA Page

The information on HPW:FA includes the information that was originally there plus the "FA guide" that Cavalier One wrote. We (Cavalier One and I) discussed it and it didn't really seem to make sense to have a seperate page for it since it explained all the workings of the FA system, as well as what was necessary for an article to become an FA. It can be split back out if you really think it doesn't belong there, but without that other information it was essentially just a listing of the FAs (which is kind of what prompted the merge in the first place). Is that what you were referring to? Or did you mean moving the talk page to a seperate page? Hope that explains it. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 00:47, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

A little tip, if you ever need to do a mass rollback, you can avoid cluttering the RC by adding &bot=1 to the end of their contribs. Like this! Glad to be of help! --Charitwo 23:23, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Bot

Hey John, would you have any problems with me running a bot to do some of the more mundane edits? I have a user set up at User:DarkJedi613 bot that will be used (so it will not run with sysop). I already use it to move Category:Organizations to Category:Organisations and it could be used for some basic text replacement, etc. That user page has pretty much all the information. If so, and you would want to, we could have it "flagged" as a bot so its changes would be on the recent edits list. (It will still show up in history though). Although I'm not sure how we would do that. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 14:10, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Sounds good. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 18:28, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Fanon warning template

Hi - I created a new template - {{Fanon}} - to place on User talk pages to warn them of adding Fanon to the wiki. I added a link to the Harry Potter Fanon wiki to encourage them to go somewhere their contributions may be appreciated. the only thing I'm not sure about is the ban ... should we ban them if they continue? I say yes, but I'd like your views on the matter. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 00:25, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Opening up the Forums

Since we now have the Forums linked in the Recent changes text header, I think we should consider opening the Forums. I propose two Forums - one would be a "business" orientated one for policy questions, queries on articles, discussions, etc. We could name this one the Wizengamot. I also propose another Forum, for social interaction, named after one of the inns from the HP universe - The Leaky Cauldron, The Three Broomsticks, of The Hog's Head. What are your thoughts on this? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Babbitty Rabbitty

Draco's wife

John, I saw your post on Matoro183's talk page. The information regarding Draco's wife was released both in her interview with TIME magazine, and through her interview for PotterCast (edition 131). There is a reference link in the Draco article that links to the magazine interview, and a transcript for PotterCast 131 should be up shortly on www.the-leaky-cauldron.org. I had to check it myself since I deleted the info once myself. Hope this clears things up. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 14:57, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

The table linking to the specific reports is unavailable. Just wondering if you knew what the problem was? Thanks in advance. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 15:20, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Interesting. I take it the Wikia techs are on it? Still, it's not a real problem at the moment - just annoying when someone reports a problem and you can't access it. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 21:26, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Bot problems?

John, I was just looking over the Recent Changes, and User:ExBot (who I suppose is a bot controlled by User:Exlex since they both add Russian interwiki links) added content to several articles. Along with adding Russian interwiki, the bot inserted this:

I've removed it from the articles for now, but was wondering if it might be a problem with the bot itself, or with the MediaWiki 1.12 upgrade? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 10:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

New messages and search bar

Hi John. Starstuff commented on the message bar on their talk page, saying the message bar has "you have owl", when it should really say "you have an owl. This got me to thinking - what happened to the picture of the owl in the bar? Is it a result of the upgrade to MediaWiki 1.12 like the search logo? I must admit, I'm a little bit hesitant to touch the MediaWiki stuff that involves a lot of coding since I don't want to mess anything up, and you seem to be knowledgable in that area. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 20:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I didn't know if "Nathaniel" was ever canonically revealed as Malfoy's middle name. I don't follow JKR-related news as closely as you guys (e.g. the wiki admins), so I was assuming that it was just fanon. New Monaco

Wikia is changing monaco, trying to make it look more like monobook. Thus, the new monaco gets rid of the ad banner, and changes back to the old monobook logos. This completely eradicates our logo contest and the picture of Hogwarts at the top of the skin. Take a look at this. It looks cool, but we will also have to make some changes. The main page will have to be redesigned to match the ad box.-Matoro183 (Talk) 00:31, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm just letting you know I'm not exactly a veteran. Cheers. Jayce Carver Slytherincrest Talk 14:59, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem, just use it wisely. John Reaves (talk) 15:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Alert.

Dear John Reaves,

It has come to my attention, and the attention of an administrator, who has asked to remain confidential for the time being (due to threats of disclosure of private information to their family) that the administrator Matoro has come under the influence of the internet group "Anonymous". The administrator has been logged as the same IP address of a griefer under the name "Super Saiyan Canavi", a person posing as me.

We suspect upwards of seven people of Anonymous have become involved, as there were IPs tracked from several locations, two in the UK, several on the East coast of the US, a couple in the Middle East. This administrator involved banned this person on accords of griefing, but not a week later, Matoro unbanned this person, who revealed they were several people.

The griefing consisted of defacing my user page, confusing staff of the wiki, and creating general chaos. We were hoping that you might be able to do something about this very delicate situation, as a lot is at stake here, especially with concerns that the administrator's family will be told information that Matoro has somehow dug up.

Whether you choose to act or not is your own accord, but a corrupted administrator is a serious crime.

If you need proof, check the IP records of Super Saiyan Canavi and Matoro, and you'll see they're one in the same, unless he suspects even that and changes it somehow.

We're begging you to help here. The entire wiki's at stake.

But as I said, it's your decision.

IRC

Hey John Reaves, you're the founder of the #wikia-harrypotter IRC channel. Since you haven't been on recently I was wondering if you could transfer founder control to me? Thanks. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:33, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm on a break. Founder controls rarely need to be used so just leave me a message or send me an e-mail if you need something done. John Reaves (talk) 23:42, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Can you at least make me an op so? It sometimes necessary to take care of things on the chnannel. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 00:02, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Red links

Recently, I've been working on cleaning out the Wanted Pages, and I'm almost done. I noticed you've got a couple on your User page, but I won't make any changes to it without your approval first. It would be a fairly minor edit, and with your permission, I'd like to fix them. - Nick O'Demus 07:40, December 7, 2009 (UTC)

Hi from the Call of Duty wiki!

As a diplomat from the land of knowledge of guns Call of Duty Wiki, I just thought you'd like to know how immature the user NeroDynamic is!

While we recognise that this is not on your wiki, please feel free to use this in the event they ever decide to run for adminship on your wiki. Thank you on our wiki's behalf. [2] 17:38, September 8, 2010 (UTC)

You Live?

I thought you were a goner..welcome back :D --Cometstyles 03:39, October 28, 2013 (UTC)

Alive and well. John Reaves (talk) 03:43, October 28, 2013 (UTC)
A warm welcome from me, too-- I don't believe we've ever met before, given that I became a regular editor and admin after you had left. ProfessorTofty (talk) 22:33, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

RE: Civility and concensus

Given that I'm the one in the right, that's not exactly fair, but what else do you expect from admins? HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 02:43, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

John,

My name is Tonya and I co-admin a Facebook Potter page called 'For the love of Potter'. I have been doing a weekly post about the more obscure witches and wizards in the Wizarding World and I have seen several posts on this wiki that I would like to use. How do I go about getting permission to do that? I don't want anyone to feel as if I am infringing on their hard work in putting together an article. Thanks!

Tonya
