Wotcher!
Hello, Ginny22, and welcome to the Harry Potter Wiki (HPW). Thank you for your contributions. I hope you enjoy editing and decide to stay.

By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to automatically produce your name and the current date. Be sure to verify your e-mail address in your preferences. Before attempting any major article rewrites please read the layout guide. If you have any questions, check out the policy and help pages (see here for editing help), add a question to the Community portal, view the forum or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Ginny22, in response to your question- "Can muggles use a wand if they know the spell?", I believe the answer is no, because God did not give humans magic powers. There may be a such thing as magic, but people would have to study magic.(just like Hogwarts students :) Gryff23 02:03, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

RE: Hi!

You can get a Prefect badge by:

  • Combating vandalism
  • Helping to keep the Wiki in order
  • For taking charge of areas of the Wiki that need help
  • For helping new users find their feet

To start a new topic in the forum, there is a little text box on the right side above the topics. Infoboxes show information about you. See this page for a list of infoboxes. To make a signature, go to your preferences, and enter into the signature box what you want your sig to be. To create a cool sig, with all the colors and fonts, you have to know html/css.-Matoro183 (Talk) 16:17, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Really all the infoboxes are Cat:Infobox templates. We try to keep them organized in that category. Prefect badges are generally just given when a user feels another user has done something worth commending. Its a "pat on the back" in a way. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 19:24, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Characters

Hi, Ginny22! I'm glad to know you like my username. :) As for which Harry Potter character I'd choose to be, I'd probably go with either Hermione Granger or Luna Lovegood, because I like their roles in the story and they are both similar to me in terms of personality. It's interesting to consider what it would mean to become a character in the Harry Potter world: would I become that character in every way, taking on their personality and memories, or would my mind simply be transferred into their body? Because it's a little weird to imagine Hermione or Luna getting Sorted into Slytherin! -Starstuff 09:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me, or start a thread on The Leaky Cauldron. :) -Starstuff 16:10, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Thanks

It's not me you should be thanking, its Matoro! He's the one that answered, not me. :) -- Freakatone Talk 18:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry about it, I just thought I'd let ya know. -- Freakatone Talk 23:09, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Signature

If you want you're own signature, create this page: User:Ginny22/sig. Whenever you want to sign your name, type in {{User:Ginny22/sig}}. Hope that helps! -- Freakatone Talk 19:51, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I could make it for ya if you tell me what color and font you want the signature to be. -- Freakatone Talk 20:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
I think you can use any font that you have on Microsoft Word... but im not too sure... the ones that I've seen are Comic Sans (mine) Arial, and whatever the default font is. -- Freakatone Talk 20:45, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
You should only use basic fonts -- ones that everyone will have. If you don't everyone else will see it as just normal text. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 21:17, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
What you need to do is customize your signature in your preferences. You can either type it all in right there or you can type in {{subst:User:Ginny22/sig}} and type it all in on User:Ginny22/sig. Personally I prefer to type it into the sig box since my sig isn't that long. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 21:27, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey

Please be aware that most of your edits are on user talk pages and forums. I have learned that users should not just edit their pages or any other talk pages, but should also make edits on the articles on the Wiki. In response, to the Infobox for your page, I can help you with that, if I get your permission. You would also have to send me the data you want in it. If you want an example of what to put in it, please visit my page. Gryff23 04:08, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Hey

Yeah, I agree with Gryff. You might want to start editing some article pages. And if you want to welcome someone, look on the Recent Changes page, and if there is a red link, type in {{subst:welcome|~~~~}} for a registered user, or {{subst:wecome-anon}} for an unregistered user. But first, you should probably edit some article pages. Thanks. -- Freakatone Talk 00:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

User pages

Please don't edit other users user pages-Matoro183 (Talk) 01:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Editing

Its always good to establish a user page and describe yourself but don't forget to add content to the wiki as well! Right now 82.62% of your edits are User, User talk or Forum. Only 10.14% are on articles. There's much to improve here so don't forget to continue with that. If you have any questions please read the Editing Policy and respond on my talk page. Thanks. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 03:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Just so you know -- if you had read the Editing policy closely it tells where to find your edit count. You can get it at Special:Editcount/Ginny22. And good job on contributing to more articles. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 21:13, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Ways to get involved

You've always been saying you wanted to get more involved with the community here at HP Wiki. Here are two ways that you can: Projects and the admin election. Check them out! -- Freakatone Talk 20:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

We only let very experienced editors become admins. Also, you have to have a lot of article edits. (only 21% of your edits are on article pages.) If you keep working, and edit more article pages, someday you could become an admin too. Oh, and by the way, you get 2 votes on the admin election. -- Freakatone Talk 20:43, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Question

Uhh...why did you welcome a template?-Matoro183 (Talk) 19:59, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Comments

Please do not remove comments made on your talk page by other editors-Matoro183 (Talk) 21:01, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Re:Edits

To answer your question, you award Prefect badges on the user's talk page, and they can add it to their user page if they please. Your number of edits can be found at Special:Editcount/Ginny22.-Matoro183 (Talk) 21:13, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Welcoming

Please only welcome users that have edited recently. Also, you really might want to start making edits to Article pages. See HPW:EP. You could get blocked unless you do. Thanks. -- Freakatone Talk 22:21, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Re:Prefect badge

I really appreciate the prefect badge you left on my page. :) Also, here's a bit of unsolicited advice, but if you're looking for a place you could pitch in around the Wiki, then you might want to consider joining one of our new WikiProjects. Another idea would be to look for articles which still need to be created (these appear as red links). List of books would be a good place to start if you're interested. You could also simply read through articles to check for typos. You'd be surprised the sort of thing that slips past me even after I proofread something three times! -Starstuff 11:59, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Two things

First of all, you do not have a bot. You have to have be an admin and request for one. Second of all, due to your lack of improvement, your userpage has been protected for 3 days so you can't edit it. If this continues it may be protected for a longer period of time. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks. -- Freakatone Talk 20:06, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey Ginny22, I believe the issue Freakatone is worried about is that your edits in the (Main) namespace should be by far the highest. Yes, you have made a great improvement! And I hope that you continue to. In a few days your user page will be unlocked automatically but remember your main contribution to the wiki should be on the articles, not on User pages, User talk pages or Forum pages. Please try to understand what Freakatone is doing, he is trying to keep people focused on contributing to the wiki, per our editing policy. If you have anymore questions feel free to leave me a comment on my user page.
And let me explain about my bot (User:DarkJedi613 bot). It is an (semi-)automated user that I run. It makes the same edit over many pages on the wiki. I run it off some framework made by others (there's more information on that user page). It takes a decent amount of "know how" and trial-and-error to get it doing everything I need. But regardless a bot isn't just creating another user and calling it a bot. It actually is a robot (look at the edits, they're often seconds apart from each other for an hour on end, I'm not that fast of a typer). Regardless if you're interested in running a bot...it is a possibility but the bot would need a specific purpose on the Wiki and must be approved by an administrator.
I hope I've been able to clear up a couple of things, and as I said above feel free to leave me a comment on my user page whenever you have a question. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 19:02, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
We don't actually have a bot policy at the moment, its in the works. But yes. Bots need to be approved by an administrator. Also if you noticed my bot's edits don't actually show up in the recent changes list -- that's because it has a special setting which only Wikia staff (not even any of the 'crats or administrators here can set it) called a "bot flag." As I said if you're actually interested you can read more on his user page. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 19:11, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
A Bureaucrat is the same as an administrator, except they can also make users into administrators and to give rollback privledges. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 19:26, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
No problem! Hope it helped. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 19:38, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Project Scarhead

HarryPotter5
If they can do it, why not us?
An owl from Cavalier One
The latest on Project Scarhead!
Welcome to Project Scarhead! Okay, firstly, thank you for signing up. We have a big job to do, but hopefully, with so many hands we can get the job done. Basically put, the Harry Potter article is our main article - he's the series lead and the main focus of the books. As such, he should also be our biggest and best article, the kind of article we're proud to show off on the main page and tell people we did it. We will be working on a subpage, located here: User:Cavalier One/Project Scarhead. This will serve as our workplace, and all members of Project Scarhead are authorised to edit it, and I urge you all to put it on your watchlist so you can track usage. I have already rearranged the article to conform with our standard layout guide. I am suggesting tackling the article in chronological order, working through each of the seven books in turn, stopping after each book is done and reviewing the work to date. However, let me know if you wish to work on a particular sections or book and you will be accomodated. Again, welcome to Project Scarhead!
