I think it would be nice to have a plant-stub template. There are a lot of plant articles that could be expanded. -Matoro183 (Talk) 01:58, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

FA promotion

Hi, I think it'd be best (to avoid a conflict of interest), if you didn't promote article you voted for. Just leave a note at my talk page or anther admin's talk page when the time is up. John Reaves (talk) 22:43, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Fanon warning template

Hi - I created a new template - {{Fanon}} - to place on User talk pages to warn them of adding Fanon to the wiki. I added a link to the Harry Potter Fanon wiki to encourage them to go somewhere their contributions may be appreciated. the only thing I'm not sure about is the ban ... should we ban them if they continue? I say yes, but I'd like your views on the matter. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 00:25, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I agree with a small ban first, then a larger one for persistant offenders. One week for a first offence, a month for a second, permanent for a third? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:43, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Opening the Forums

Since we now have the Forums linked in the Recent changes text header, I think we should consider opening the Forums. I propose two Forums - one would be a "business" orientated one for policy questions, queries on articles, discussions, etc. We could name this one the Wizengamot. I also propose another Forum, for social interaction, named after one of the inns from the HP universe - The Leaky Cauldron, The Three Broomsticks, of The Hog's Head. What are your thoughts on this? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Took me a while to get it all sorted out. But that's what you get when you let the elderly on the internet :) - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 00:10, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Non-Harry Potter Universe

Earlier I came upon an article discussion about Wizard Rock, someone asked if it was cannon. It would be nice to have a header template that stated that an article wasn't part of the harry potter series, such as actors, or things that happened in the real world. -Matoro183 (Talk) 20:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey, just wondering something. DH has been out for nearly six months now, and we have the spoiler tag on the main page, so how about using the sitenotice to advertise and promote things such as the discussion (and now vote I set up) regarding the family in the infobox? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 23:59, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

As you can see, I modified the message, but retained the spoiler text so that it will seem more like a natural change when the spoiler tag is phased out. As for linking to the Layout and policies ... I was thinking of a more temporary nature for the sitenotice, one announcing new policies/ votes/ decisions, rather than a static notice. I think we should consider changing the welcome message we give to new users to include links to the Layout guide and policies. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:40, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

New welcome page

Very nice! Especially the Wotcher! in place of Welcome! Looks like you've got links to all the relevant help and policy pages, and hopefully the link to the layout guide will get new users up to speed with the way we edit. I like it. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 15:55, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Looks good to me. Just have to remember to place it on anon pages ... - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:39, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

[[File:Matoro.jpg|Matoro's userbox pic]]

With all due respect to Matoro, I think that this picture is not Harry Potter related and therefore should not be on this wiki. Could you please make a decision on this so I will know what the policy is? Thank you. Syu

Noun Usage

Please see my talk page for the discussion on noun usage. The murder of a ghost is not possible. If admins deem the name "Moaning Myrtle" must be used for the murder that created the diary horcrux, the column name must be changed as "Moaning Myrtle" was never murdered. Mafalda Hopkirk 16:41, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

This user will not stop sending me owls when I have asked him three times to stop. Is there something you or another admin can do about this please? I have just now received four more edits to my user talk page from him on a dead issue and asked him a fourth and fifth time to cease. Mafalda Hopkirk 17:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Proposed policies

Proposed policies for no personal attacks and blocking policy are ready for viewing. Looking for input - feel free to change the page content if needed, or leave feedback on the talk page or my main talk page. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:17, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Just a heads up - I've moved them both to the main namespace, and both policies are now active. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 21:11, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Category:Fictional books

Just been mulling something over, and having the category as "Fictional books" doesn't seem right since, in the HP universe, the books aren't fictional. I was thinking of superceding it with Category:Books and changing all the links, and was wondering if you agreed, and - if so - could get your bot to run through the wiki and make the changes? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 12:39, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Bot job

Hi! Hope you had a pleasant festive season? I've got a job for your bot. The married name indicator should be née, but it has been mispelled as neé (note the placement of the accent) on several articles (I might even be the culprit on a few). I was wondering if you could run the bot to correct any mispellings? Many thanks. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 16:53, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Very pleasant, thank you. I'm on a slow connection myself - staying with my girlfriend's parents over new year. Thanks for the heads-up on the bot. Mafalda may have a job for it as well - check out Forum:Uniformity in article titles. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 12:25, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Where these elections for sysop? I'm waiting for your answer. Karutalk 13:21, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I was looking at the CP talk page and noticed that John Reaves asked about making articles about chapters in the books. What happened to that idea? - Tyminator1 (Talk) 21:35, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

A little help?

I was contacted by a User from a Brazilian HP wiki who wants to link to our main page. The original message can be found here. The site uses the wiki software as far as I can determine, but I don't think it's part of Wikia. Usually Users just append the interwiki language tags to the page, but I'm not sure it that would work, or even what the tag would be. Could you take a look at it for me? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

That was my initial thought as well. I did some looking around at other wikis and couldn't find anything that would indicate how to link it. Whenever you get a chance to look at it is fine - hope the move back to school goes well for you. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 21:40, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Please protection my user page, because I want, fight shy a vandalise in my user page. Ipek was vandalised my user page, date: 16:33, 25 october 2007 and he's blocked and rewerted. Best regards. Karutalk 21:43, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll be glad to help with any of the chapter articles. I've got a few ideas... - Tyminator1 (Talk) 02:22, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

FA noms

Hi, DJ. I close the Snape FA nom, but left Durmstrang and Hagrid open since they've only been up for a week. Can you close the Fudge nom when it's time? I voted on it, and I think it's a foregone conclusion that it'll pass. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:27, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

I dont understand how what I said could be interpreted as anything other than good faith. I simply pointed out to Mafalda that there are a lot of these "If you could ask JKR one question" Forums. And while I understand thats what the Leaky Cauldron is there for, these forums arent helping, and are distacting users attention away from the main focus of the Wiki which is to edit the articles. I phrased this as politely as I could, Mafalda then accused me of personal attacks which I'am glad to see you didnt agree with. I then appologized to her even though I did nothing wrong and she threw it back in my face. I'am not trying to restart the argument, just trying to explain what happend and that under no circumstances was what I said ment as rude or condesending. - Vaysey Slytherin 09:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Canon policy

Hi, DJ. Just wondering what the state of your canon policy was like? I'm reworking the video game articles at the moment, and might need to have a clear definition since I have a lot of stuff to create that some might consider "non-canon". I believe the rule of thumb we discussed was that if it isn't contradicted by another higher source (books, etc), it should be consider Canon? Just need some clarification before I start making articles. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 15:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll check it out. Kinda figured you were busy. I'll read over it and post some comments on the talk page for your consideration. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 21:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Another bot job

Just wondering if, when you have time, you could set the bot to change Defense Against the Dark Arts to Defence Against the Dark Arts to fall in line with British usage? I'm seeing a lot of it lately. Thanks in advance. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 11:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I figure we might have to periodically run it every couple of months or so. However, what is [this] that it's added to the bottom of the article? It's on all of them. I remember a similar thing happening to a bot controlled by User:Exlex|Exlex]]. I thought it might be a problem with his bot alone, but I'm not sure now. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 15:07, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikia Email

I sent you an email through the function in the wikia - just wondering if you received it? Mafalda Hopkirk 14:35, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Also about IRC - It's not accessable through the link on your userpage. Mafalda Hopkirk 18:42, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Usually, I sound you, John and Comet out about the new policy, then once all are in agreement, I move it to the namespace and it becomes active. With the Canon policy, it might need to be "ratified" by the community since it affects all the community. I'd still sound John and Comet out about it though. I'm with you on the policy, and you can count on my support. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 20:18, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Hopefully, that will do it. I never even knew that forum page existed ... might have to do something with that. On another note, a few of the redlinks there can only be cleared by editing user talk or subpages. Any objections if I do it to clear some more off the list? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 14:34, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

That's okay then. i might make that a little project of mine to clear the wanted list of crap. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:08, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Can I help? Maybe we can split the alphabet somehow? Mafalda Hopkirk 17:05, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Image categorisation

I saw a project over at the Wookieepedia regarding image categorisation, and thought it might be an idea to implement it here. Here's my basic idea, formed like a tree:

  • Images of covers
    • Images of - books, DVDs
  • Images by artist
    • Images by Mary GrandPre
    • Images by other artists (created as needed)
  • Images by book
    • Images of book name
  • Images by film
    • Images of film name
  • Images by subject
    • Images of - spells, events, characters, locations, organisations, races, objects (each one can be further broken down as needed)
  • User images

What do you think? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 10:42, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Category:Images already exists under Category:Harry Potter Wiki, so I guess we just keep it there. I agree with the license issue - group all the existing license categories under Category:Images by license. Images can be in more than one category, definately - the chapter art by Mary GrandPre would be categorised in more than one, as would images from the films. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:37, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
We could, but isn't there already a Special page that lists uncategorised images? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:44, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I thought the uncategorised images special page was "hardwired" into the wiki? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:38, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
I suppose not. But we'd have to modify the Screenshot template to stop it placing images in a category that no longer exists. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 23:58, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I have created a possible new wiki_wide.png that is not black and white, and incorporates the backdrop of wiki.png Old Wiki_wide.png: Wiki wide My Creation: Wiki wide1 I you like mine better, the image Wiki_wide.png is protected, so only admins can upload it. You only see this logo in quartz and monaco skins-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 23:42, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Monaco Skin

I've completed the custom monaco skin: User:Matoro183/monaco.css. If you like it, copy it to MediaWiki:Monaco.css, and change the AdminSkin to custom-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 01:09, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

To preview it, copy it to User:DarkJedi613/monaco.css -Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 23:21, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I found some bugs in my Jimmy Fincher Wiki Skin, but this hp one is just flawless.-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 23:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
All right, I found a bug. I had previously been using Slate as my skin, then I made this one and put it under User:MyUser/monaco.css, but I still had slate checked under my prefernces. Thus, when I made it, all of the snippets of code I left out were automatically being pulled from slate. In this case, the background of the entire page, and the background of the logo area. I'll try and fix it...-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 01:43, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Fixed; you will have to copy mine to yours all over again.-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 01:55, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Weighing in on the Monaco discussion - I've been trialling the basic version for around a week now - anyone else getting a bug where the main article space increases in size? Also, when/ if we implement it, we should discuss what links to include in the sidebar for regular users. I'll probably customise mine for admin duties, but I have a few reservations about having links to top users in the sidebar. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 11:37, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Good idea. I did customize it a little -- I added the two forums under the Forum link. I don't really understand how it calculates top users or anything so its weird. And I'm gonna copy it over now Mataro. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 14:24, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
The top users are determined by the number of edits found at Special:Editcount.-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 21:18, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and the main page is a little bigger than monobook, but I don't know how to change that...-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 21:22, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean its a little bigger? I haven't noticed any problems yet. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:20, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh, it's not an issue, it's just a change for all the monobook users. It's not just the main page -- the whole article section.-Matoro183 (Talk - Jimmy Fincher talk) 00:15, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Hermione born

Hello DarkJedi. Do you know, when did Hermione born? In books haven't informations about Hermione born, but maybe in Polish translation just haven't. I think this information in an article Hermione Granger is important. I'm waiting for your answer. Best regards Karutalk 09:40, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

RE: FA Noms

Done. I've added the successful noms to the list with dates. Incidentally, any comment on the image catergorisation so far? - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 16:04, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem - been working away at it in my spare time. Didn't realise we had so many images ... - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:53, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
