I guess I edit the rswiki style then. Syugecin

Additionally, thanks for helping peel the phoenix pictures of the Order member's pages. Syugecin
No problems. They were bugging me and looked crap. And phoenix wasn't even spelt right. And I guess everyone has their own way of editing. The Wookieepedia style suits me and I applied it to the Ginny Weasley article. Got it on the front page, too :) - Cavalier One 22:00, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
My style includes recent changes and random page editing =P Syugecin
Mine too. Can't find something to edit? Hit random and take a chance! And recent changes are important in case of vandalism. Or fanon. Which, unfortunately, we seem to suffer from a lot. - Cavalier One 22:06, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I think the adminnies need to be a tad more active. Is it natural in wookiepedia to have people write replies on their own talk pages? Because I'm not used to that =P Syugecin
Depends on the user. A lot of discussion and collaboration goes on over there, so some choose to keep all information in one place. Me, I'm easy. If you want me to reply on your talk page, I'm cool with that. - Cavalier One 22:12, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Please do =) Syugecin
Thanks =) Syugecin

Re: Templates

Thanks. I can make an in use or a clean-up template if you think it'd be useful. Should I just look at Wookieepedia's and see what they use or did you have something in particular you wanted it to look like? I usually just follow Wookieepedia's guidelines but we really should have our own manual of style. I was think of basing a layout guide on Wookieepedia's and proposing it to the admins. I'll make a subpage in a bit about it that you guys can edit if you want. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:33, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

The In use Template is done. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I was wondering if you could check out the Layout guide I was working on. Any thing you think should be added/changed? Thanks. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 20:57, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
The only reason I didn't seperate the films/movies/games is cause I wanted to keep it in chronological order. Do you think that's important? Maybe instead of doing sub-lists, just list them all seperate? What do you think? -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 01:31, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
I like the relationships section. Obviously if its unneeded you just leave it out. I think listed without the subsections but in chronological order would be good. Book-film-game makes sense to me. I'll change that when I get a chance. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 18:25, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Recent Changes

I'm clogging it up. =/ Should I mark the edits as minor? Syu

Hi, just thought I'd drop a line to say thanks for all the marvelous contributions you've made to the wiki - one F.A. already (and counting, perhaps?)! It's a real pleasure to find somebody stumble on this wiki and really do something about it, not something all of us can do with busy schedules and all. No kidding, I admire your work, and am waiting to see what else you'll be able to come up with. All the best, keep up the great work, and Happy Editing! The Chosen One (Choose me!) 21:19, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I have to agree. Writing is less like work than anything else I know. Most of the "writing" I do, however, I hardly ever write down. :p With all that time in front of the computer, you think you could handle the mop and bucket? We're very few admins here, just me and John, and goodness knows we need a couple more to monitor the place while neither of us are around. You seem like you know what you're doing, and I like your attitude (and your writing, as I already said), I think you might just be a good admin if, of course, you're up to it. Don't feel like I'm pressuring you or anything, it's just that in a couple of weeks I'm moving house (country, actually) and it'd be a comfort to know somebody's taking care of the wiki. :) The Chosen One (Choose me!) 08:31, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure you'll live up to expectations, perhaps even surpass them. :) I feel like quoting Slughorn at the moment ("I've never been wrong about a student yet, Tom!") but then I stop to think, if I'm Slughorn, will you be Tom? Disturbing thought... Anyway, I'll be posting an official request at Project:Requests for permissions, you'll have to accept the nomination on the page, and then sit back and let the wiki do the rest. I am pretty confident that you will pass, and I am very sure we need at least one more admin, so good luck, and cheers! Nice work on Charlie Weasley too, looks like it'll FA next. The Chosen One (Choose me!) 07:23, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Stubs

Oops, didn't think of that. You're right, although a couple are only like one sentence and could probably be expanded. I'll remove them in a minute. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 12:28, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Black Family Tree

I think what we need more than "appearances" is a "references" section. Although I suppose the family tree itself has actually appeared in the books/movies too so that would be an appearance...its a strange page. It'd be nice to be able to source how we know each piece of information - but unfortunately we can't really do that with an image. So I would just list the sources at the bottom. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 10:57, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

That sounds like a good plan. I think it'll work best until we can think of something else. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 14:33, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Book infobox

Just so you know - I moved it to Template:Book infobox since thats the format the rest of them are in. Looks good though. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 17:12, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I just saw you were the last edits. Besides which, do you think it needs first, last, latest appearance? I'm not sure it makes sense. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 17:23, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree, I almost think we should remove them from every infobox and just have appearances sections on all articles...but I don't think that would go over well. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 17:35, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. Before I go editing the infobox and subsequently a lot of pages with it - is there anything you can think of that should be added to it? -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 17:41, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Step ahead of you, already added the publishers. Besides that I also changed the field to all lowercases - like the other templates. ;) Do you actually own Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 17:50, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Apparently you are already aware of your new status. Though I did not have the honors of promoting you personally, I believe the power to congratulate you on your sysopping still resides with me. Here's to many more FAs and a bright future for the wiki. May your decisions never compromise this fledgling project of ours or turn it into a turgid, farcical nephew of Wikipedia. Which is pretty much the same thing. Again, many congratulations and cheers - The Chosen One (Choose me!) 17:33, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Ya, Gratz.
Yes, congratulations to you too. Now all we need to do is whip this Wiki into shape! :) -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 02:22, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Re:Ministry Thingy

Sorry ^_^ I have a short temper. My mood swings really quickly. Syu

Featured Articles

Up till now, we haven't had lots of articles worth mentioning, let alone featuring, so we've been playing it by ear. But if you have some guidelines, we'd really love to hear them, perhaps eventually refine and build on them. It seems like with you around, we'll really be needing them. :p The Chosen One (Choose me!) 13:46, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Is there any way to change a username once you've already used it?

I just wanted to ask a question; maybe you could help. Is there any way to change a username once you've already signed in under the name? I go by the username 'kellyleighc' on Wikipedia's main site; I was thinking of changing my username to another username with a HP nick or something. But I don't want one someone else is using, of course. KellyLeighC 19:00, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for the welcome template. Frankly, nothing starts on a Wikia wiki until you get a welcome template. bibliomaniac15 23:41, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

RE: infobox images

Thanks. I'll try.

Moving + Temp. arrangement

Hi! I'd like to notify you that next Saturday, September 15, I will be moving house to Germany. As it will take some time to get my internet connected ( a few months or so), I will be unable to edit or contribute to the wiki until then. Now, since there will be only one active bureaucrat left upon my departure, I will be appointing DarkJedi613 to be temporary bureaucrat in my place. Should something happen to the other bureaucrat while I am gone, at least there will be somebody to cover for him. I would like to stress that this arrangement is only temporary - DarkJedi's status will be restored to administrator once I return, and not kept as bureaucrat. If we need any more bureaucrats by that time will be for the community to decide.

I will be implementing the arrangement in the middle of next week. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on my talk page or via email. Thanks, and cheers! The Chosen One (Choose me!) 14:47, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Well, I'm off. Good luck, and keep up the great work! Hope to see you soon! The Chosen One (Choose me!) 08:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Layout Guide

That sounds like a good idea, it should probably include a link to the policy pages in general. I'll see about adding that. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 19:57, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Objections?

I think it's about time we started updating the picture on the main page! I guess we should probably have a vote similar to FA? Probably on its talk page? Or make a new page Harry Potter Wiki:Selected Pictures which pretty much serves the same purpose as the FA one? Also, I think we should implement the FA guide. Only thing is the Promotion/rejection section sounds like it was just thrown in and needs to be finalized (The "I'm thinking..." part). -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 10:59, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Just wanted to make sure you didn't forget about it. :) In terms of nomination for pictures - theres also other considerations, such as if there is licensing information, etc. I'm not sure we'd have to exclude character shots - although it would be pretty silly for the same picture to be on the main page twice. If we like excluded the pictures from infoboxes - like the "main" pictures. That might make more sense? And remember a FA doesn't have to be a character... -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 11:27, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. Anything different than floo powder! :) And yes there is a lot of fan art and stuff that needs to be removed...and yes we do need more people writing high quality articles. I try my best but haven't had time to do a full rewrite in a couple weeks. The FA guide looks good. I approve. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 03:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Wiki footer

Hi there -- I'm working on a project for Wikia to help link the fantasy wikis together, and encourage people to see this as one big site, rather than a lot of little wikis. I'd like to post this footer at the bottom of the main page.

The gaming wikis have started a similar project, and they've seen a lot more cross-traffic. Would it be okay to post this at the bottom of the main page here? You can feel free to edit it, to fit in better with this community. -- Danny (talk) 19:14, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Image Problems

I've been trying for more than a solid day now to add the image of Sybill Trelawney to the Divination page, and it keeps coming up with the X of Doom. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks. Hufflepuff Half-Giant 06:55, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

So, once I talk to John about it, I think I'm gonna start running a bot here to make some basic changes. I know one of the first things I'm gonna do is move Category:Organizations --> Category:Organisations. Also I was thinking of using it as a way of "correcting" American spellings, although we would need to generate a list of what to correct (I know things like "Sorcerer's Stone" --> "Philosopher's Stone" and "Minister of Magic" to "Minister for Magic"). Are there any other things that we would really need one for though? I was also thinking of enforcing the layout policy (i.e. renaming "Trivia" sections to "Behind the scenes", etc.) Any thoughts? -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 15:20, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I don't have my books with me and there was a question about a particular quote - I was wondering if you could take a look. The conversation is here with the relevent change here. The question is about whether the "him" is truly in the quote or whether it should be added in (and surrounded by [ ]). Thanks. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 13:39, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I dropped the quotes. It really wasn't a necessary quote. Thanks. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 13:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I think that I'm going to move this to Uncontrolled Magic. How do I do that again? Tyminator1 01:03, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for your help. I'm going to move it soon. Tyminator1 00:58, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Featured Articles

Sorry to bug you again, but I have a few questions about FAs. Can you chat? - Tyminator1 01:14, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Okay, since when did we start voting on future articles and not the current one? - Tyminator1 16:10, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, but anyway, I guess I was a little suprised when I thought that Bellatrix Lestrange was the next FA, and Luna Lovegood came up. Also, I think that the link on the main page should say "vote on future featured articles", instead of "the next". I'm thinking of posting something on the CP talk page to try and get more people to vote. I mean, it's just you, me, DarkJedi613, and a few others. Oh and how do make your talk page link appear after your signature? - Tyminator1 23:42, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Um to be honest with you, I didn't understand anything you just typed, so I won't worry about it. - Tyminator1 17:32, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Welcome Do you give sysop for me? Best whises and I am waiting for an answer. Ps. it my count. 19:03, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Re: S-protect

Good call. John Reaves (talk) 18:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I agree. I edited the template a little - hope you don't mind. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 22:39, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm thinking of the canon policy in the following. An example of something we have to figure out:

This was done by an IP address on Slytherin, Graham Montague was changed to just Montague for the following: "Removed Graham, because it comes from the game."

Now in my opinion it should be fine to keep the "Graham" since it doesn't interfere with any other canon source, it only adds to them. What do you think? -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 20:38, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good! Although I'm not positive that he is called "Graham" in the games, just using it as an example. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 02:15, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Makes sense. Like even in the movies and games we have some characters such as Nigel (Category:Non-canonical characters) who are not "considered canon" and there really isn't any reason for it - except they're not in the books. But the books don't say there is no one named "Nigel" there so... Obviously before we change anything we'll have to pass it by the community though. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 12:37, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm an inclusionist also -- so in my mind essentially EVERYTHING is canon that doesn't interfere with itself. And even then it should still be included, just marked that the universe doesn't work. I'll out Memory Alpha's policy - and I'm gonna reread the Canon policy of Wookieepedia again and see what they have to say. I'd like to make it broad enough that we're not listing particular sources, but able to expand as more information is passed on.
Also, under appearances I saw "Wizard of the Month" was starting to be listed on people. I was thinking shouldn't it be more of under a different category such as "Sources". I realize I need to edit the HPW:LG a bit to add some stuff (the "Sources" section and how to handle conflicting canon). -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 18:37, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Exactly! Like WotM, Black Family Tree,, Interviews, things of that nature should go there instead. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 22:46, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
This is how I would split it up: appearances is in universe - it contains in-universe sources (books, games, movies); sources is our universe. I would say get rid of them. The only things I would think of as "non canonical" is if there was some Fanon that like everyone knew about that should be included here (like there is for Star Wars - e.g. Troops). But I don't think those exists in HP. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:03, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
I would think all official products could be included. They would just get categorized in the "real world" category. Personally I have no problem with articles about Fan sites. There is one for mugglenet already I believe. Maybe we could make a header template that says "out of universe" or something? I'm not sure how that would be handled. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:24, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
