[edit] Fanon
I'm thinking about suggesting all the House Games, Quidditch, etc. be moved to w:c:harrypotterfanon (which I didn't realize existed until Matoro told me today on IRC). Any comments or ideas about how to go about this? -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 21:27, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- Matoro briefly warned against Truth-or-Dare here we'll see if it continues. Perhaps if we just suggest they check out the fanon wiki instead of saying to take the game there? Hmm... -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 15:59, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Cedric Diggory
You keep reversing my edits to Cedric Diggory and state reasoning as "No quotes in middle of sections. No reason to break up perfectly good paragraphs. ", but many articles on this Wikia have quotes in the middle of sections, why is it that Cedric's should be any different? I understand that you worked hard on Cedric's article, but this Wikia is community based and we each contribute to the articles. You seem hostile to allowing change to this page. [edit] Comunity Portal--Projects
Hey Cavalier One,
I realized that there are many projects listed in the Projects section of the Community Portal, but most of them are now practically over. No users are paricipating, and the porjects are either on hiatus, or no longer in action. I guess it is up to the project leaders to decided rather to take it down or not, but if the projects are over, I personally see know reason to keep them posted, as it may confuse new users, as it confused me when I first joined. I am a little afraid to edit the portal myself, not being an admin or anything, so I thought I'd talk to an admin. So, if it's all right, could you erase the projects from the portal? Thanks. [edit] Active users
I wanted to clean up the Active Users list, but since there's no set policy, I thought I should run these criteria by an admin first.
- 3 months of inactivity for all users who meet the same standards as Voting Policy (autoconfirmed, 20+ article edits).
- 1 month of inactivity for users who do not. The reasoning being that there are several users who have done little or nothing beyond adding their names to the list, and if they haven't done anything in a month, it's unlikely they'll make any more contributions if they didn't do enough to begin with to even reach voting status.
Please let me know what you think. - Nick O'Demus 11:14, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

You may not have heard, but Jayden Matthews, a helpful and active user on this site, sadly lost his brother recently. [edit] Selected Pictures + QotW Nominations
Hey Cav,
I just got back from my summer break, and have been looking around the site, getting the hang of things again. I realized that both the SP and QotW nomination pages are getting really long. There are about 20 nominations for the SP and about 30 for QotW. Could you sort those out? I also wanted to point out that a lot of the QotW nominations were made by non-registered users, or the nominator has not even cast a supporting vote. I think we need to put a policy in place so that we can do something about them, because a bunch of nominations that haven't even been voted on is just plain annoying. Thanks, Quidditch Lover

[edit] Forums
I've noticed that a lot of the recent off-topic threads (particularly the ones that look like they were pulled straight from WikiAnswers) came from a similar range of unregistered I.P.s - Nick O'Demus 07:12, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
122.105.244.33, 122.105.245.150, 122.105.245.98, 122.105.129.223, 122.105.241.111.
- Add 122.105.244.82, 122.105.245.63, and 122.105.240.218 to the list. - Nick O'Demus 07:40, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
I think the culprit is JamesVI. I don't have any strong proof, other than the fact that he keeps asking simmilar questions (that he clearly already knows the answears to) on my talk page. First - How did Petter Pettigrew know that Harry was going to be in Little Hangleton. Then - Why did Petter Pettigrew become a Death Eater. I've already asked him to stop, but it might be worth looking into again. Jayden Matthews 08:15, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Now that I've asked him to stop he has moved on to Seth. Jayden Matthews 08:54, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not so sure it's him. JamesVI has at least made several article edits. The user with those IP's has done nothing but start forums. They don't even comment on them, they just start the topic. It might be this guy, but since they only made one (registered) edit like that, I can hardly say it's a pattern.
- Also, I was looking at the Editing Policy, and I noticed this on the talk page:
- "Do we really need the forum section anymore? I don't think anyone could excessively edit on the Wizengamot."
- No disrespect to Matoro183, but given the recent activity, I did find it amusing. - Nick O'Demus 13:22, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
- So what should we do? -- GrouchMan (Send an owl then scram!!) 22:06, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
- Not much we can do really. Range blocking IPs may mean that some legitimate editors find themselves blocked. All I can do is keep on top of it, perhaps tighten the rules regarding forum editing policy and start handing out punitive blocks to those editors who disrupt the flow of the wiki. - Cavalier One

- Editors without a user name: the anonymous IP addresses. --Cubs Fan (Talk to me) 17:42, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure if there is anything we can do about it. IP sharing has always been a problem in Wiki editing, because innocent anonymous editors are always liable to be blocked by mistake. One thing I would suggest doing, is having a quiet, private word with those who continue to respond to these forums when they have been told many times not to. Jayden Matthews 07:47, October 24, 2009 (UTC)
- How do we do that? -- GrouchMan (Send an owl then scram!) 11:52, October 24, 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Search changed?
Hi. In the last months, I´ve always checked the contents of infoboxes by copying the headline of them into the search. ("{{Individual infobox" ) The results were all articles uing the infobox appearing on a list. When I tried it around two days ago, it didn´t work and the following massage appeared:
"No search results for that term."
Why has the search system been changed? Is there a(n) (optional) possibility to restore thhe preveous version? Hoping for an answer, --Rodolphus 17:56, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
- Wikia released a new search system, which, among other things, displays results in the rendered text of the pages rather than the raw source with MediaWiki markup. Something you could do is simply look at what transcludes the template. You can read about the change in the search system here. Cheers, Grunny (Talk) 03:37, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. That helps.--Rodolphus 08:55, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

Allow me to contribute more to this wikia, because I love HP. If you do not want me editing aanymore I understand, but I implore you to give me a chance. [edit] Re: Warning
Cavalier, while I appreciate and respect this wiki's policies and guidelines, I really must oppose your latest decision on warning me in regards to my edit count. While I have been editing the forums over the past few weeks, I have realised that admins are willing to keep certain forums pertaining to Harry Potter, if they contain valuable pieces of information that could be used for article edits in future. On the whole, I would say that most, if not all my participation in forum pages has yielded such information. In comparison to the more technical comments I have left, there are very few of which that have "devolved" to simple discussion.
What I am trying to say is that I really do like providing detailed analyses in forum questions that regard Harry Potter itself, and I have always done my best to provide useful information that really has potential for article use. Now I have said that I will revert to my usual (what I like to think as) informative writing style and refrain from answering trivial questions and having conversations. I have made several changes to articles since I started at this wiki so it is not as though I merely answer questions in forums. Apparently I have made more numbers of forum edits than I have article edits, which is why I have been warned. To what end? Why exactly is editing forums (at least the way I do) such a crime? I'm still contributing my knowledge to help the wiki, am I not? Surely, the quality of edits is worth more than the quantity.--Yin&Yang 13:58, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
- I think we should consider bringing back the Leaky Cauldron forum for discussions that are relevant to article content but not to the wiki as a whole. Casual topics like "Should Harry Have Ended Up With Luna?" and "Who is Cooler: Harry or Draco?" don't serve any purpose on this wiki, but topics like "Do we know Umbridge's House?" and "How many students are there at Hogwarts?" can be useful, in that they allow us to go over the evidence and then edit the applicable article(s) accordingly. ★ Starstuff (Owl me!) 05:34, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Leaky Cauldron forum
I think that "How many students at Hogwarts?"-type threads serve to highlight areas in which our article coverage is lacking, because if someone is motivated to ask a question in the forum, it means they didn't find the answer in one of our articles. When the Leaky Cauldron forum was closed, threads of this type — as well as casual threads that serve no purpose — spilled over into the Wizengamot forum, so I thought that reopening the Leaky Cauldron might resolve the issue, at least in part. I figured that shifting content-related threads to a separate forum would make it easier to keep track of threads related directly to the wiki.
The suggestion to transfer discussions to article talk pages is a good one, but one issue that comes to mind is that posts to article talk pages tend to get lost on the list of recent changes, and thus posting to the forum is generally a good way to ensure that a topic gets noticed. Perhaps the solution would be to set up some kind of noticeboard where users could post requests for others to reply to threads they've started on article talk pages? ★ Starstuff (Owl me!) 18:19, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
