Wotcher!
Hello, BachLynn23, and welcome to the Harry Potter Wiki (HPW). Thank you for your edit to the Talk:Hufflepuff page. I hope you enjoy it here and decide to stay.
Before editing, be sure to read the wiki's policies. Please sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to automatically produce your name and the current date. Be sure to verify your e-mail address in your preferences. Before attempting any major article rewrites please read the layout guide. If you have any questions, check out the policy and help pages (see here for editing help), add a question to the Community portal, view the forum or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!
Please note that in the text, JKR uses s's for possessives after names like Sirius or Remus, hence why we do on this wiki. Also, the user policy on this wiki is very strict that no more than 15% of your edits can be on user pages, talk pages, or forums. Just thought you would like to know. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 03:03, July 22, 2010 (UTC)
All of your edits thus far have been in discussions. You need to start actually editing articles. I'm telling you this, b/c the admins have begun a crackdown on users who do not actually edit articles. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 14:44, July 22, 2010 (UTC)
Technically, it does count against you, but no one is going to report you to an admin. There is very little writing on this wiki that belongs to one particular editor (and most of that is mine). Unless it is a major change, just go ahead and edit it. If what you put doesn't jive, it will be reverted, no harm no foul. The only things that really need to be discussed before changing are Infobox pictures, major dates, etc. Anything else, really feel free to change. Just last week, I rewrote two entire years of the bio in Harry Potter (3rd and 6th). --JKoch(Owl Me!) 16:59, July 22, 2010 (UTC)
That is pretty much what I told EPV. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 17:20, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
Those are not photos in that gallery, they are gifs. If you click on them, they will play. If they were outside of the gallery, they would repeat their little videos ad infinitum. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 22:45, July 26, 2010 (UTC)
While I've not actively taken part of the discussions, the identities of the Death Eaters were worked out here and later corrected here. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 14:07, July 28, 2010 (UTC)
Theoretically, the entire article is supposed to be in past tense. See:Forum:Past/Present tense? It is really important that the Bio section be in past tense. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 22:05, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
As I said, theoretically the whole article. Many of the sections below the Bios aren't in past tense and need to seriously changed. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 22:14, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
Know the feeling, I'm a student who took the summer off and couldn't find work, so I get the feeling of extreme boredom. There is a reason I have 5600+ edits. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 22:20, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I'm creating the article and you have been talking about the current conductor being Stanley Shunpike, but I think the conductor is Ernie Prang (the person who drives it), isn't it? Thanks, El Profeta Vespertino 22:05, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
That is a good point, I hadn't put too much thought into it. In book 3, Stan introduces himself as "My name is Stan Shunpike, and i will be your conductor this eve-" and then later introduces Ernie as "This is our driver, Ernie Prang....". But if you look at the 'Hogwarts Express Conductor' page they have written "(commonly known as just the conductor or the driver)". Obviously the book is cannon, but now I'm not sure about how the Hogwarts Express conductor page is written right. --BachLynn23 22:14, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
Like I told EPV, they are separate jobs. The article is wrong. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 22:18, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
So on the Hogwarts Express Conductor page, should the part about the driver and conductor being the samething be taken out? --BachLynn23 22:20, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
I've just created the article. Thank you for your help. --El Profeta Vespertino 22:34, July 29, 2010 (UTC) PS: Please, leave messages in other users' talk pages when answering, so that we can notice it. Thanks.
Ch. 7 page 128 of the Scholastic version, "Harry walked over to him, and the wizard held up a long golden rod, thin and flexible as a car aerial..." --JKoch(Owl Me!) 20:16, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
If I think people have the two instruments confused. If I remember the scene in GOF where Harry goes to Moody/Crouch's office the Secrecy Sensor does look like what is described, but to me it seemed like a stationary object. The first time a probity probe was named was in HBP, I think Filch scanned the students with them. In use it sounds more like a Probity Probe, but in description it looks more like a Secrecy sensor. And since it is not identified, I think it should be moved to the BTS in both articles, since there is some confusion. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 20:23, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
Nope, just one of the many inconsistencies. DH is most recent and since it appears that one can take larger doses in DH, then you can. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 15:04, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Remember to use one space in between sentences when writing in articles. I grew up being taught two spaces, but that is not how they do it here. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 17:20, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Likeiwse here. It took me a couple of weeks to work it out. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 18:22, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
I think that is the Central Wikia having trouble. Last week Swoopstikes was having exactly the same problem, but it's fixed by now. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 23:38, August 10, 2010 (UTC)
I don't know, i haven't played the game. A dummy is the british term for a pacifier.92.12.181.83 14:02, August 19, 2010 (UTC)
If one of the boggarts listed is from a higher canon source, then that is their boggart. I'm assuming most of the LV came from LegoHP. If LegoHP were to list idk, Dean's boggart as LV, then it wouldn't be canon, since we know his was a severed hand. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 17:56, August 19, 2010 (UTC)
No problems. I was just happy to catch the anon before he wrecked more pages. That's the beauty of a wiki - anything is repairable. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 19:09, August 19, 2010 (UTC)
It probably refers to when Zacharis Smith left the Great Hall just prior to the Battle of Hogwarts rather than stay and fight with the rest of the DA. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 20:27, August 19, 2010 (UTC)
I agree. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 20:53, August 19, 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for contributing image uploads to the Harry Potter Wiki. However, your recent upload [[]] is in breach of our image policy, and needs to be corrected by applying the {{information}} template to the file and supplying a source for the image. In future, please be sure to fill out the information template that is provided on the upload page, in particular citing the source from which the image comes from, and adding categories. This is to help keep images organised and catalogued, and to provide clear sourcing for all uploads. Please be aware that images missing this information may be subject to deletion, and, in certain cases, uploading images after being asked to provide the correct information may lead to a block for the uploader. If you have any doubts or questions regarding this, please contact one of the administrators. Thank you for your cooperation.--Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 20:24, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
Please don't be discouraged from uploading images. On the upload page, in the box marked "summary", there should be a form that looks like this:
{{Information
|attention=
|description=
|source=
|author=
|filespecs=
|licensing=
|other versions=
|categories=}}
Just fill out the fields as best as possible. The main ones are description, which is a brief description of the image; source, which is the original source of the image, such as one of the films, books or videogames, or the website you found it on; and licensing, which is usually {{screenshot}} for images taken from the films, games, etc, or {{fairuse}} for promotional items and photos. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 21:43, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
In any platform, if an object or event is talked about but not seen, then it qualifies as a mention. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 20:48, August 26, 2010 (UTC)\
Mentions are generally saved for something that comes offhand. If detail is given or something is actually seen, then you get an appearance, not a mention. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 04:15, August 27, 2010 (UTC)
Since it is technically illegal to enchant a spoon, I would go with wandless magic, but it seems that wandless magic is a rare skill. However, this was still the first book, and I doubt she had figured all that out yet. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 20:16, September 4, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, the information you placed in the template is correct and formatted correctly :) - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:13, September 6, 2010 (UTC)
The only acceptable image sources are the canonical tiers. So, no, an image that is not from the books/films/games/promotional events/etc. (i.e., the image of the chocolate eclair you uploaded) should not be placed within an article. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 11:40, September 7, 2010 (UTC)
It would only make sense to delete the city/country pictures, too. I'm going to delete them. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 17:09, September 7, 2010 (UTC)
I'm not deleting only your images. I'm deleting all images from countries that are not from a canonical tier and, thus, do not comply with policy. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 18:01, September 7, 2010 (UTC)
Hi! Congratulations for your Order of Merlin! You are a very good contributor and you needed an award. As John has said, you really earned it. Btw, how could Deathly Hallows be your favourite video game? I hasn't been released yet ;) . Thanks, The Evening Prophet (Owl Post) 17:44, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
That day is really annoying. I figure this is how it played out. Late in the evening of 31 October, Peter sells out the Potters and Voldemort kills them. Sometime late that night/early the next morning, Sirius runs into Hagrid (Yes, somehow it takes Hagrid nearly 24 hours to get to Surrey). Sometime on Nov 1, Sirius catches up with Pettigrew. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 15:00, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, those are massive violations of the NPOV policy. I see Seth talked to him. It irks me that when people violate NPOV they always do it in a way that makes a bad guy seem better. People used to do it to Draco and his father's pages too. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 02:53, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
From what he added, I think we need to pare the Skills section for Voldemort. Some of the entries are redundant or could be combined. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 03:00, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
Cut it. Will do. I've been catching up on some TV shows, so I have not been editing as much. --JKoch(Owl Me!) 03:09, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
I saw your edits on the site of Gemma Jones, but I saw mistakes in the Actor infobox. You wrote: Griffith Jones (mother). In the source IMDb Griffith is called an actor so I think he must be the father. And you wrote: Nicholas Jones (sister). She is the sister, he is the brother. So I think it must be written (brother). Perhaps you can change your edits. Harry granger 13:09, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
I do not know where the other favours came from, but I'm guessing they were made up by people along the time. Also, I've added the missing Jelly Belly flavours to the list. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 15:27, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Hey i noticed ur really good at this. Take a look at the pages Harpie and Ignotus Peverell's wife. They really dont need vertification, and whats going on with Asexuality. I created it almost 4 months ago?72.229.249.242 03:51, September 20, 2010 (UTC)Donmax
Maybe he just danced with Arielle's character at the yule ball, like technically padma and parvati went with Ron and Harry but also danced with others..... I'll get an admin to take a look, see what they think. --BachLynn23 20:29, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks about explaining the Harpie and Asexuality pages. Could you take a look at Defensive Charge, its on the lexicon, and help me delete Sauce Bechamel, cause i made a Sauce page to make up for my mistake.72.229.249.242 20:08, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
I've made a small correction to the wiki markup (as you had probably noticed, all the text after your signature on my talk pagee shrank). You can copy the now-tweaked code to you "Preferences" page, "Signature:" box. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 17:14, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
Well, what's the source that says Hannah and Seamus went together to the Ball in the film? I don't recall seeing neither one in that scene. -- Seth Cooperowl post! 17:14, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
Always a pleasure. =) Also, wouldn't this mean Lavender Brown was briefly played by Arielle Brown in Goblet of Fire? -- Seth Cooperowl post! 17:26, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
And I didn't realise she played a Beauxbatons student. To archive, follow these instructions (I recomend method #2, at it moves the page's history along with the content). -- Seth Cooperowl post! 18:14, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
