What is this sweepstakes thing you keep posting? --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 04:57, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Traitorous Muggle

Could you give the exact source (ie the full web address)? --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 02:44, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

Give an actual verifiable source, or I will categorize the article for deletion as fanon. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 03:58, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

Cottage

The article says that already. The second to last sentence says that Dumbledore put the charm on the house, and the reference goes to Pottercast 130. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 03:02, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

If you continue to add that piece of redundant information to this article it will be construed as Vandalism. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 22:16, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

Edits

Thank you for contributing to the Wiki. Your edits have been brought to my attention by Hcoknhoj per his warnings to you above. When editing our articles please make sure they follow our policies. All additions must be sourced, and articles (such as the ones you have created) must follow our Layout guide. I suggest you read over our policies to ensure your edits follow them. Thank you, Grunny (talk) 04:11, July 30, 2010 (UTC)

"Truel" is a neologism, and as such, reduces the quality of the wiki when it is used. Since it is not widely accepted as proper/no one really knows what it means (forcing them to look it up, not good for the wiki), I removed it. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 04:45, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
I have to agree with JKoch on this count. "Truel" isn't just clever slang someone thought up yesterday and stuck on Urban Dictionary. Using it in an article wouldn't be like captioning a picture of the yet-to-be-seen Bellatrix-Molly duel "Momma hen FTW!" But, at the same time, it's a jargon term, apparently used almost exclusively in publications related to game theory. It would be a bit like saying "the outcome of the duel was zero-sum" rather than "the duel ended in a draw." So, while I don't think we should actively try to dumb down this wiki, I think we should avoid using specialized words whenever possible, to make the wiki readable for the widest possible audience. Starstuff (Owl me!) 22:18, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Complaint

I think that if you formatted your articles correctly, they would appear more legitimate, and would not arouse suspicion. For example, the word "Newt" should be in bold. The article should have an appearance section to show where the information came from. A little more detail couldn't hurt either. Also, your other edits should be formatted correctly to give yourself credibility. For example (as I have asked you before), when you add something to the "Behind the scenes" section of an article, it needs to be on a new line and needs to have an asterisk in front of it. Also, when you just tack on information to the bottom of the page, it makes you look unprofessional. Thank you, --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 23:03, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

As Hcoknhoj stated above, all articles, no matter how minor, need to be properly sourced, which means listing where the object/person/spell/etc. appeared, either in an Appearances section, or as a Reference. Please consult the Layout guide for more details, and remember to use the proper formatting (such as using a * when adding a new point to the Behind the scenes sections instead of a - ) Nick O'Demus 09:10, August 16, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Apologises

We're not frustrated. As I understand it, your edits were all in good faith, and you have been very helpful. We're merely trying for your contributions to be more useful. The thing is, if you don't follow the standard method for stating your sources, people will continue to add the articles you create under the "articles for verification" category as they will fear its a piece of fanon. I would suggest a read of the Layout guide; you would learn how to properly format an article and source it. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 09:18, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Explanation

Merging two (or more) articles is to combine all the information from each other into a single article. We only merge articles when having two would be redundant (for instance, having an article on "Albus Dumbledore" and another on "Professor Dumbledore"). An article needing clean-up is an article that needs special attention (i.e. a major rewrite; fix the article's layout; etc.). --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 22:52, August 19, 2010 (UTC)

Redirect

It should have been redirected, but I don't remember the information. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 03:50, August 21, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Question

By editing that is not in good faith. I mean, I get really frustrated with some of the stuff you do, but since you are not trying to disrupt the wiki, you wouldn't get banned. Though, violation of a policy like the image policy will get you banned regardless of your intentions. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 15:05, September 8, 2010 (UTC)

RE:Question

Unless they are the official Harry Potter mini-games found at the Harry Potter Official Site, they would not be considered a canonical source. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 23:38, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Annoyed

Well, some of what you said was covered in the prior point, and some of it is base speculation without any relation to fact. We can speculate that the wars were somehow connected dates and hints fro JKR tell us that much, but beyond that we cannot speculate. Going so far as to say Hitler was under an Imperius Curse is just guess and lowers the quality of the wiki. Thank you, --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 14:43, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Delicate Question

If it is an unseemly part of your anatomy, yes you will be banned, permanently. And your other account. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 03:56, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

re: help

Hi, here's what I've come up with so far, I've gone through other HP sites (lexicon), and all the HP books and I can't find any reference to the Holyhead harpies being named after "harpies", although the harpie (usually spelled harpy) is in fact a mythological beast, unless a source can be found that actually states they are in fact the creature the Holyhead harpies are named after, it remains speculation. As far as the topic of Ignotus' wife is concerned, I think that's a lot harder, there's a page for his "son", and there's reference to the cloak passing down the line through his son, so one could argue that although it doesn't directly reference his wife anywhere, in order for him to have had a son to pass the cloak down to, it's presumed he had a wife. But on this site it has to actually be mentioned, think of it this way, if we started making articles for everything not mentioned or seen in HP books/movies, games, etc the site would be out of control huge, so for the Ignotus one it's really up to the admin's. As far as the article on Asexuality, though it hasn't been deleted yet, I kind of have to agree with it being deleted, asexuality isn't the same thing as abstaining from sex. What Dumbledore did (in my view) was to choose a life of celibacy, you can't choose to be asexual, but you can choose to have a life of celibacy, he was capable of having sexual attraction but he chose to suppress those attractions, similiar to what priests and monks do. Hope this helps, if you need more help, just let me know. --BachLynn23 13:08, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Oh and btw, I feel I should point out, although "harpy" is a mythological beast, I can't not find any reference to it within HP world, and it has to be mentioned or seen somewhere in HP world in order for it to have an article. --BachLynn23 13:24, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

re: memo

I edited defensive charge, take a look, also, I don't think I'm able to delete pages, but for now I have it so that sauce bechmel redirects to sauce. One of the admin's will have to delete it. --BachLynn23 20:59, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

verification articles

I've scoured the internet for like 3 days now, and can not find any reference to harpies in hp books, movies, games or sights, same with Cod, so at this point I have to say that I would be for deleting them, and as far as that unidentified hogwarts teacher, I wish I could help, but as it looks like an obscure photo from one of the movies, I wouldn't know where to begin to research it, and to be perfectly honest, although I've been quite bored lately, not quite bored enough to watch 6 hp movies looking for that guy. sorry. If you need help with anything else, let me know! --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 23:58, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

Status

The way to gain status on this wiki is to be a conscientious user of the wiki. Obeying all policies and editing in a way that does not cause other users grief. I suggest you improve in this area. If you would create your articles with the appropriate formatting, it would save other users time and effort. Also, merging articles is not a special power. It has to be done manually. One article has its information manually added to the other, and the one that was blanked gets deleted. Thank you, --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 03:52, September 24, 2010 (UTC)

animagi

I didn't realize there was a newly found registered animagi from lego harry potter, prior to that one there would have only been 6 (according to the books), so you are correct there are 7. Oh, and as far as the boil cure page you asked me to check out, I asked a couple of admin's if they thought it should be merged with boil cure potion, because to me if they are both boil cure potions it seems likely they are the same one, unless the one from the playing card game is a spell and not a potion. I haven't gotten a response yet.--BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 12:40, September 25, 2010 (UTC)

Wait, my bad, the book does say 7, so now the question remains, the 3rd book only said that there were 7 registered animagi including Professor MacGonagall, so how do we know that the lego animagus is one of those 7, could she be an 8th registred or perhaps an unregistered....... --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 12:40, September 25, 2010 (UTC)Š

Scratch that, I think because the witch transforms into a cat infront of people at the leaky cauldron, it's assumed she must be registered, I get it now, really I do. :-) Oh, and I fixed up your addiction the seven, I made it its own paragraph, and fixed the website so it's a reference. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 12:51, September 25, 2010 (UTC)

updates

I redirected Zaire to congo, edited Wine, and made a minor adjustment to Lee Jordan, was there anything specific with his article that you wanted me to look at? Oh, and I put the 7 animagi back onto Seven. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 13:16, September 25, 2010 (UTC)

Monday updates

Good morning! Ok, so I messaged Seth Cooper about the Bertie's beans link you sent me, he has spent a lot of time editing that article, so I want to work with him on it and see what he thinks, I'm still a little fuzzy when it comes to where websites fit into the canon tier. As far as Hockey goes, I wish I could be more helpful, but I don't know where game manuals fit into canon, I'll keep you posted. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 14:18, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Ok the issue with Mugglenet's list is that it says "our list" which possibly implies that it is something they created on a whim as they have not cited canon sources for the flavours, so without other sources for the flavours it can not be considered canon on this wikia, sorry. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 15:43, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Seth said that unless sources can be found for the flavours they aren't canon. I asked JKoch about the Hockey thing, I haven't gotten a response back on it, I wish I could be more help, but the Harry Potter games are my least knowledgable area. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 17:35, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Bow

I don't think that was a specific spell, I think that he just used his magic to force Harry into a bowing position. I'm going to delete. --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 02:45, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

Well, there was no incantation. It just said he used his wand and Harry was forced into a bowing position. With Spoon, it is too generic. There is no point to the article. If there were magic spoon, then maybe, but this would open up the floodgates for articles like "Book" and "Jacket." Thanks, --JKoch Ravenclawcrest (Owl Me!) 03:04, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Question

Well, first it needs to be from a source approved by this wikia, and when you add the picture you need to make sure to put where you got it from (source), specify the license type, and give it a brief description. If you need an example of what stuff to fill out, check out weasley.jpg --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 01:00, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Seven Cursed Diamonds

Seven Cursed Diamonds story: Originally deleted at 13:12, October 5, 2010 by Cavalier One. Reason: "Not HP related, This is the HP wiki, not the JK Rowling wiki." If you wish to argue the point, you should ask him. - Nick O'Demus 05:32, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

If you were to look at Wookiepedia's article on George Lucas, for example, you'll notice that the only works he's done that have articles on that particular wiki are the ones directly related to Star Wars. All of his other works are directed to Wikipedia. - Nick O'Demus 05:45, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

re: help

Hey, so as far as the "custard tart" article, see Lexicon itself isn't a good enough source, I use Lexicon quite frequently, but only for things they have sources for themselves, and if you notice on the list, it doesn't reference where "custard tart" was seen. I double checked with Seth as far as Lexicon being a source by itself, and he concurred that it would not be. You have to understand their site is not without flaws, I have found numerous articles on their site that are either spelled wrong or weren't directly seen in cannon, such as countries. Lexicon has an entirely different view of what is cannon then HP Wikia does. I have scoured the books, British and American, and can not find a direct reference to "custard tart", it may have been seen or mentioned in a movie, but that I can not check as my dvd player is broken. I wouldn't count Custard tart out yet, but it needs a better source then Lexicon. With the whole "penetration curse" I don't know what to tell you, as far as the book reference it said "possibly", maybe once the movie comes out it will become more clear, I'd hold out until then with that article. Now the raccoon article, it wasn't deleted, but the original article, Raccoon was spelled wrong as raccoon has 2 c's, so if you look it is now Raccoon. So that article was good, just needed a little editing. Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions, I'm on here pretty much from 8am EST to 9pm EST. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 21:49, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Your welcome

I'm glad I can be helpful to you. I think I may have just corrected the link on werewolf, was it the one in the BTS section about HIV? I fixed that like 10 minutes ago. The green orbs? ummmmmm. I vaguely remember that article. Where was it referenced from, I'll do some research on it and see why it got redirected.... As far as monitoring your edits, well I always follow pages that I've made edits to, which at this point makes for a lot of emails in my inbox, but if you are following the pages you'll get email notifications when changes are made, which I find really helpful. :-) Just hang in there and don't get discouraged, sure some of your articles haven't panned out, but you have also made a lot of contributions that have. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 22:03, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

 ? first

Where do the green orbs appear, which book? or movie? and what troll? on the poland page? --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 01:07, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

re:

I don't know if I can help too much with the green orbs, I've only ever played Order of Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince and Lego HP Years 1-4 for Xbox. I updated the new flavours on the Bertie Bott's article, added a little to the Tarot Cards page, added the link for trolls to the poland page. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 12:51, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

They didn't do it, this has happened before, some sort of glitch, it should clear up in a few hours, hopefully, I don't know why it happens, but it's nothing any of the admin's did or didn't do, it's higher up then that, something to do with the entire Wikia and not just Harry Potter wikia. BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 01:39, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Re: hey

As far as why cliff and sheltered cove got deleted, as I wasn't the one to delete them I can't answer for sure, but I'm guessing because they are rather vague, you would have to ask the admin that actually deleted them. As far as the Bertie flavour "pickle", I checked the site and finally found it, but they have replaced Bertie's beans with "beanboozled" jelly beans, so being that they are no longer named after the beans from Harry Potter, I'm not 100% it would count as cannon anymore, I'll have to check with Seth or John on that one. But the other pages you asked me to look at and tweak are all done. :-) --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 00:34, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

re: harry potter

I checked it out, if you look at the 9th BTS tidbit (9th down from the top of the section) it is already mentioned, that was why it was deleted, not because it wasn't a good fact. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 00:25, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Avada kedavra

Mainly, because it was redundant. In the description on avoiding the curse, you added the line "have the curse strike another Avada Kedavra in mid-flight,negating both", when it already lists "intercept the bolt with another spell". Furthermore, I checked the history of the Wikipedia page, and the part about "striking another Avada Kedavra" was added by an unregistered IP some time ago as their only edit, making it hgihly questionable (you can see the edit here). As the page is currently protected and I don't have an autoconfirmed Wikipedia account (yet), I've put in a request for someone else there to revert it. - Nick O'Demus 08:23, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Bertie's beans

As far as the link you sent me about new flavours, the problem is, if you noticed those ads also stated that HP Bertie's Beans have been replaced with BeanBoozled, so any new flavours that come out under this new name won't count, I discussed this with Seth and he agreed. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 19:15, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

re: ahhhhh

Hey, so I fixed both pages, shouldn't be a problem now. I also added to the coal page because I had a picture of the coal car from the Lego harry potter years 1-4 video game. If I can find some better pics of Hogwarts Express in the movies there may be more appearances of "coal", couldn't find a clear pic though. Hope this helped. --BachLynn Gryffindorcrest (Accio!) 01:58, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe people would be more likely to take the articles you create seriously, if you even bothered to try and format them correctly-- for example, bolding the topic, creating a reference and appearance subheader, and then actually using reference codes for your cited sources. You know what the page should look like, and it's not that hard. You don't have to do any of that, of course, but don't be suprised when the "dunderheads" who have to clean up after you don't immediately assume your pages have merit. Just a thought. -- Emmy () 12:33, October 26, 2010 (UTC) 12:32, October 26, 2010 (UTC)
