Notice to fellow HP-Wikians:
I regret to announce my retirement from the Harry Potter Wiki. Wikia recently announced its plan for inserting obtrusive ads directly into articles (as opposed to placing banner ads at the top of the page or in a sidebar). These ads will push aside our infoboxes, images, and tables, completely disregarding all the thought we have put into making our articles well laid out. I understand that Wikia has to earn money to cover all the costs of running this site somehow. However, their current plan is basically self-defeating, in that it will mainly succeed in alienating readers and contributors alike. What editor wants to dedicate time to writing quality articles when they know that what they write is just going to have to compete for space with ads? What reader wants to sift through a bunch of flashing and blinking ads when they are just trying to read an article? My point is that articles are what make our site, so if our articles become too difficult to read, fewer people will want to come here (meaning less people will view Wikia's ads).
I want to thank all the great people I've had the pleasure of working with on this site. I'll stick around to see Project Greasy Git to completion, but, beyond that, I am sad to say that I have no plans to contribute in the future.
