Uric the Oddball was awizard famous for his eccentric behavior, such as wearing a jellyfish as a hat, and sleeping in a room with fifty pet Augureys. He is considered to be one of the weirdest wizards in history, and, as such, is often the punchline of wizarding jokes.[1]

Biography

During his childhood, Uric attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and was Sorted into Ravenclaw.[1]

Uric was known to have slept in a room with fifty pet Augureys. During one extremely rainy night, the moaning from the Augureys convinced Uric that he was dead and was now a ghost. He attempted to walk through the walls of his house, resulting in what his biographer, Radolphus Pittiman, described as a "ten-day concussion".

Uric once tried to convince the Wizards' Council that the song of the Fwooper was actually beneficial rather than harmful. After listening to it for three months without a break, he presented his findings. It did not start well, as he turned up wearing nothing but a toupee that, on further inspection, was revealed to be a dead badger.

Students of Professor Binns History of Magic class often mix him up with Emeric the Evil.

Behind the scenes

  • Uric the Oddball was featured on J. K. Rowling's website as Wizard of the Month in September 2004.
