"The jinx is used to make a person trip and fall over."
— Description[src]

The Trip Jinx (incantation unknown) was a jinx used to make people trip and fall over.[1]

History

"Something caught him around the ankles and he fell spectacularly, skidding along on his front for six feet before coming to a halt. Someone behind him was laughing."
— Draco Malfoy assaulting Harry Potter with this jinx in 1996[src]

During the 1988–1989 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, this jinx was taught to fifth-year Defence Against the Dark Arts students by the then DADA Professor Patricia Rakepick, in order to teach her students something useful and simple, considering how little they had learnt with previous teachers.[5]

This jinx was used by Draco Malfoy in 1996 on Harry Potter, while the Inquisitorial Squad captured members of Dumbledore's Army fleeing from the Room of Requirement. As the group had been informed by Dobby that Professor Umbridge had found out about Dumbledore's Army, the members fled, and most of them escaped, but Harry Potter was captured with the use of this spell.[4]

Bellatrix Lestrange used this jinx on Fenrir Greyback to make him fall to his knees in Malfoy Manor.[6]
