Tribeca was a neighbourhood in Lower Manhattan in New York City.[1]

The New York Ghost reported in its 7 December sunset issue that the Major Investigation Department was hunting wanted criminals in Tribeca (as well as in Queens and New Jersey).[2]

The play Tribeca Follies, which was playing at the Sovereign Theatre in Times Square in December 1926, was presumably set in this neighbourhood.[3]

Behind the scenes

  • The reference to Tribeca in a prop newspaper, sign, and poster in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an anachronism, as the film is set in 1926, and the term "Tribeca" did not come into use until the 1970s.[4] It emerged as a portmanteau of "triangle below Canal Street" among resident artists inspired by the success of artists from the adjacent SoHo neighbourhood in establishing a unique culture and identity.[1][4]
