- "Treacle tart, Hermione! Spotted dick, look! Chocolate gateau!"
- — Ronald Weasley mentioning treacle tart[src]
Treacle tart is a traditional English dessert, made predominately of shortcrust pastry and golden syrup. The tart is normally served hot with a dollop of clotted cream. It can also be served with ordinary cream, custard, or yoghourt.[4] Treacle tart can also be served cold.
It was a favourite dessert in the wizarding world,[1][2][3] and also a personal favourite of Harry Potter,[5] who liked it so much that he smelt it when he was in the presence of Amortentia.[6]
Treacle tart was one of the desserts served at the Dance Club, together with Sherbet lemons, during the late 2000s. Ivy Warrington found it so delicious that she forgot the club was for dancing.[7]
During the Calamity in the late 2010s or early 2020s, a Calamity Investigator working for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force visited Ottery St Catchpole and was informed by a wizarding innkeeper there that she had produced a treacle tart that used one-third of the traditional ingredients, asking them to help her get word of her new recipe out. The investigator spread the word about her recipe, with the innkeeper helping them get better rewards from inns in return.[8]
