A tortoise is a terrestrial creature with a shell, similar to a turtle but generally with greater longevity. Some could live up to 200 years in age.[1]

Phineas Nigellus Black, a known pure-blood supremacist, compared pure-bloods and half-bloods to rabbits and tortoises during his tenure as Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[2]
During his childhood, Dudley Dursley owned a tortoise.[3]
There was a spell to Transfigure a teapots into a tortoise,[4] and another spell to Transfigure a tortoise into a trumpet.[1]
