Tibet is located in southwest China. It is the highest region on Earth, encompassing a large portion of the Himalayan mountain range.
Tibet is one of the major offenders regarding breaches of Clause 73 of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, due to the presence of the Yeti. An International Task Force has been stationed there in order to deal with the numerous sightings of the creatures by Muggles.
Behind the scenes
- In 1995, Harry Potter asked Neville Longbottom if there was some sort of Tibetan Turnip that would allow him to breathe underwater for an hour, in order to compete in the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament. As he was being somewhat facetious, it is unlikely any such magical plant actually exists.
- While Sirius Black was still being hunted by the Ministry of Magic, the Auror assigned to lead the investigation, Kingsley Shacklebolt, who knew Sirius was innocent, misled the Ministry into believing that Sirius was hiding in Tibet.
- David Thewlis participated in the film Seven Years in Tibet, which argued in favour of Tibetan independence. For this reason, he is banned from entering China.
