{{Spell infobox |name=Thief's Downfall |image= |type=Protection charm; [[conjuration[[ |hand= |effect=Conjures a waterfall to remove all enchantments and concealment }} The Thief's Downfall is one of many defensive enchantments employed at Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

Description

It conjures an enchanted waterfall that can be released over the bank's underground mining tracks. The water washes away all enchantment and magical concealment, revealing the invader's true appearance. If the downpour is strong enough, it can hurl the mining cart against the underground cavern walls.

Known Uses

During their 1998 break-in at Gringotts when they attempt to access the Lestrange vault, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Griphook the goblin encountered this spell. As observed, the waterfall removed all the effects of the Polyjuice Potion from Hermione, a number of transfiguration spells from Ron, and lifted the Imperius Curse Harry had placed on Bogrod the goblin. Furthermore the water knocked the cart off course and, were it not for a Cushioning Charm Hermione produced at the last second, all the occupants of the cart would have been at serious risk of being knocked unconscious, injured or killed.

It did not, however, do anything to the Invisibility cloak worn by Harry, due to it being a Hallow, rather than an ordinary cloak with charms on it.
