"I know all about you, of course -- I got a few extra books, for background reading, and you're in Modern Magical History and The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts and Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century."
— Hermione lists the books she's read that mention Harry[src]

The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts is a book regarding the history of the Dark Arts. Harry Potter is mentioned in this book (possibly in relation to the first downfall of the Dark Lord) which Hermione Granger had read before meeting Harry for the first time on board the Hogwarts Express.[1] It also discusses the Dark Mark (and possibly by extension the Death Eaters).[2]

In 1997, Hermione considered this book as she was sorting supplies for their journey. In the end, she decided to bring it with them.[3]
