Tergeo is the incantation of a cleaning spell used to siphon any liquid, such as blood, dust or grease, off of the target[2]. It may be related to the Scouring and Cleaning Charms.
Uses
- Hermione Granger used this spell to remove the dried blood off of Harry Potter's face in 1996.
- Ron Weasley used this spell to siphon grease off of a handkerchief for Hermione Granger in 1997.
- Harry Potter used this spell to remove the dust from photographs while at Bathilda Bagshot's cottage in 1997.
- Mathilda Grimblehawk's partner used this spell to harvest Flobberworm Mucus from a Flobberworm, and to clean up dried ink previously spilt onto a letter for Bilius Finbok [3].
Etymology
In Latin the verb tergere means "to rub off, wipe off, wipe dry, wipe clean, cleanse".
