Tartaric acid is a white type of acid that occurs naturally in many plants, particularly grapes, bananas, and tamarinds.

It is commonly combined with baking soda to function as a leavening agent in recipes. It is added to other foods to give them a sour taste; it is presumably for this reason that tartaric acid is one of the ingredients of Lima Lush, a Muggle brand of fizzy drink.[1]
