A talon is a sharp hooked claw of a animal. Known animals with talons include eagles, Hippogriffs, Phoenixes and Dragon.
In 1994, the Trio lost their appetite for Rubeus Hagrid's beef casserole after Hermione unearthed a large talon in his hers.
Later that year, Harry Potter found a reference to a Talon-clipping charm while searching for information that would help him prepare for the Triwizard Tournament.
