In the Daily Prophet Newsletters, there is reference to a Zombie Trail, where tourists can "experience the thrill of coming face to face with the living dead."[1] This canonically establishes that zombies are undead creatures, but it remains unknown how, if at all, they differ from Inferi. Perhaps zombies are made through a different necromantic process and behave differently than Inferi, or, alternatively, "zombie" may simply be another word for "Inferius." It might be a word used by Muggles to describe a magical phenomenon — like "mind-reading" for Legilimency — and, since Quirrel taught Muggle Studies before DADA[2], it makes sense that he would know it. Pottermore: Zombies

On Pottermore, new content in the book The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection has information on zombies. "The Zombie dwells only in the Southern part of America. It is an example, like the Vampire, of the Living Dead and may be recognised by its greyish colour and its rotten smell." -MooMoo {talk} 00:00, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Great find, MooMoo! Congratulations, and thanks! :D

Could you please tell me how I could access this information? I have just finished the Sorting, so perhaps it's a bit early for me, but so far all I could find in The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection was various spells, most of which I could not practice. BTW, could you please add me? My username is NightPurple18625. Thanks :) Hunnie Bunn 17:43, May 19, 2012 (UTC)

You can find the book (and a few others) in the library in (I think) chapters 12, 14, and 15. These don't get added to your inventory, but they unlock the new information you can read. When you get to one of those chapters, check the tabs on the left side of the screen to see which ones show up (they'll be locked at first). - Nick O'Demus 17:54, May 19, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks very much, Nick; I appreciate your assistance, and am surprised (in a good way, of course) at how quickly you responded. Hunnie Bunn 17:57, May 19, 2012 (UTC)

The difference

I was wondering whether anyone might be able to clarify the difference in-universe between a zombie and an Inferius? I read the Pottermore entry on Inferi, but it was difficult to discern what Rowling had and hadn't included in the books/canon. Thanks! --Hunnie Bunn (talk) 00:05, December 23, 2014 (UTC)

Agreed. There is nothing besides "there is a difference". Actual difference is not clear at all. Faust-RSI (talk) 14:34, December 28, 2014 (UTC)
