Seeker[]

James Potter is a known seeker. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.31.190.194 (talkcontribs).

James was a chaser. See this interview with JKR. http://www.accio-quote.org/articles/2000/1000-scholastic-chat.htm --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 20:17, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

I know it's pure speculation, but is might be possible to reconcile the film's "seeker" trophy with James's "canon" book position; Remember that in book 5, after Harry and the twins received their lifetime bans, Ginny, a chaser, played as seeker and it was in that position that Gryffindor won the Quidditch Cup that year. The following year she returned to being a chaser until Harry's suspension for casting sectusempera on Draco Malfoy, when she again played seeker in the winning game. It is possible that something similar happened during the year the trophy in question was awarded; James (normally a chaser) was playing as seeker, substituting for the regular seeker, who, for unknown reasons, was unable to play the final game. Thus the winning team would list James as 'Seeker' instead of 'Chaser'. Sings-With-Spirits 20:27, October 12, 2011 (UTC)
