Is all this biography info about what was going on in those years really necessary? There's no mention of the character outside of the name on that list, and certainly no specific details on what events they were involved in (if any). - Nick O'Demus 09:42, October 14, 2009 (UTC)

Non-canon
The character's name on the student list.
I think I can say this character's existance is not canon. In the student list Rowling shows us in Harry Potter and Me, this character's surname is striked and "Rivers" is written above it. What I think this means is that this individual was inicially named Quirrel, but after naming Quirinus Quirrell, Rowling changed this character's surname to Rivers to avoid confusion. She also did the same to other character's surnames, namely Puckle Granger, Hermione and Puff Longbottom, Neville. Thus, I propose getting rid of all references to this character and redirect this article to Rivers. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 14:09, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

He is Hufflepuff. This is my prove. He is one of two boys that we don't know which house they belongs but because there is 2 empty seats in hufflepuff, we'll think that they are in hufflepuff. Zaki alwi 14:49, March 7, 2012 (UTC)

Source of him being in Hufflepuff? Where is it stated that there are 5 male and 5 female students in each house? It doesn't have to be that way. Also, J.K. Rowling has said, that she imagined there would be considerably more than 40 students in each year at Hogwarts. Can he please be put as 'unknown house'? 95.209.255.197 08:01, June 1, 2012 (UTC)

In my opinion Oliver is a Ravenclaw. I think this because looking at the original list, we can note that his original surname was Quirrel and we know Quirrel (the teacher) was a Ravenclaw...

- There really isn't any conclusive information for us to say he was in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. The article explains why, on the "Behind the scenes" section. Also, just because the characters share(d) a name at some point in Rowling's planning, it doesn't mean the two characters are at all alike (case in point, Hermione's middle name was "Jane", until Rowling decided to give Umbridge that middle name -- and I can hardly think of two more unlike characters). -- Seth Cooper owl post! 14:58, December 20, 2014 (UTC)
- I know very well there are not proofs to enstablish he is in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw; I wrote the informations in the "Behind Scenes" section, because earlier people thought he was certainly an Hufflepuff. However I think it is likely, (though unconfirmed and unconfirmable) that he is in Ravenclaw. The surname is certainly more significant than the middle name and the fact he was originally a Ravenclaw makes me think he was one of the two students who stayed in Ravenclaw. I just wanted to write on the "Behind Scenes" that it is likely he stayed in Ravenclaw, like in the "Behind scenes" of Sally Smith's page. GianG (talk) 11:22, December 21, 2014 (UTC)
