So, never having been oficially included anywhere, this is not a canon then? Ninclow 14:41, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

Role in the story is not canon, existance of this character may or may not be canon. See Mopsy -- she started out as a cut character, but later evolved into a fully-fledged character. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 15:12, June 26, 2015 (UTC)

Pyrites would likely be classified as a ghost plot, possibly because he was "superfluous to requirements" "had to be sacrificed for the bigger story". Pyrites would be cut either because his role was deemed unnecessary or that any portions of the original role that were necessary could be filled better by others. Can't find the full quote as to what JKR said about him so as to determine whether more of his original role was taken over by Snape or by Pettigrew (both who played a role in the Potter's death/betrayal), but someone else might have it. JKR tends to throw out a lot of names to create the impression that there are people around, but the number of major characters tend to be smaller - and you get a tighter more focused plot with less peripheral tangents that way.
