Is there any monetary reward involved in the Order of Merlin, or just the honour? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.90.88.107 (talkcontribs) 05:27, 26 April 2009.

Kindness Toward Muggles?[]

Are we quite sure that the only reason for recieving the Order is for kindness toward Muggles? Because I highly doubt that Sirius' grandfather would get one, and Snape nearly recieved one for capturing Black. --Parodist 16:17, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

This information seems to have been based on Merlin's Famous Wizard Card, which states that the Order of Merlin began not as an award, but as an organisation which promoted Muggle rights. Evidently, the Order of Merlin changed from an organisation to an award at some point, and its emphasis from Muggle rights to honouring great deeds in general. Peter´s Order[]

Pettigrew indeed lost his when his treason became public.

Is there any source for this?--Rodolphus 17:16, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Lockhart[]

The statement about Lockhart's Order of Merlin possibly being retracted is based off of the assumption that him being a crook ever came to light. I don't recall it stating anywhere that Ron and Harry exposed his lies. It seems like a little too much speculation. Correct/Incorrect? Gringotts03 (talk) 08:28, July 29, 2013 (UTC)

Split[]

Given the new information from Pottermore, should the organisation mentioned on Merlin's FWC be considered a separate thing and covered in a separate article? Order of Merlin (organisation) or something to that effect. After all, the award wasn't started until the 15th century. -- 1337star (Drop me a line!) 19:54, December 23, 2014 (UTC)

Agreed. --Rodolphus (talk) 19:56, December 23, 2014 (UTC)

I went ahead and created a separate article for the Order of Merlin organisation. Starstuff (Owl me!) 00:04, December 25, 2014 (UTC)

Did Harry, or anyone else of the DA receive an Order of Merlin?[]

It's seems quite obvious to me that at least the Trio has met the requirements to be awarded an Order of Merlin First Class, 'for acts of outstanding bravery or distinction in magic' but yet there is no source afirming it to be true. Dumbledore was awarded an O.M. after defeating Gellert and Harry defeated Voldemort. If one is to consider everything it would be reasonably to say he should have been awarded in his second year already as he killed a Basilisk and saved Ginny (from Tom and the Basilisk), what could be easily compared to Norvel Twonk's story. So, what do you think?

Is it no longer awarded?[]

This is described in past tense as if the award is no longer given. Is that the case?

Irbananaking (talk) 22:49, February 27, 2018 (UTC)

No, it's because this wiki's style policy is to word all articles in past tense, as if being written at a time in the far future. This is done to avoid confusing tense changes in articles. — evilquoll (talk) 04:21, February 28, 2018 (UTC)
