Shouldn't this page be labelled as not canon, and "Mafalda's mother" as well? Mafalda Hopkirk 03:53, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

No, he was mentioned in Philosopher's Stone by Ron, therefore this character is canon.--204.210.122.189 10:31, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Blood-Status[]

Squib? Seriously? If we're not going to label people like Ron as a blood-traitor, then we shouldn't label squibs as squibs. We're talking about blood purity! Not their magical abilities/choices! This character should be labeled as a pure-blood (or nothing if we find we have no actual proof that he was a pureblood, merely related to them). Also, if squib is merely speculation, then it should be taken off anyway. This isn't a place for speculations. --204.210.122.189 10:34, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

First of all, "blood traitor" is not a category of blood status -- it's more or less a political/ideological one, as it includes both pure-bloods and half-bloods who treat Muggles and Muggle-borns as their equals. Two, "Squib", on the other hand, is its own category of blood purity. Magical abilties are a significant part of blood purity (hence the difference between Muggles and Muggle-borns). Finally, the article itself states that the character could be either a pure-blood or a Squib, so as not to be overly speculative, although I think it's a fairly reasonable assumption to think someone born into the wizarding world who moved to the Muggle world might be a Squib. Canonicity of family[]

The fact that Malfalda and her planned role in the story were cut from Goblet of Fire doesn't necessarily render the background details about Malfalda's family revealed on JKR's old site non-canon. It's still possible that Molly's second cousin had a Muggle wife and a witch daughter named Malfalda who begun attending Hogwarts in 1994. These characters just never had any interaction with the Potter characters during the series. Starstuff (Owl me!) 11:18, October 31, 2016 (UTC)
