Hag

Laverne is a Hag? Didn´t she appear on a famous witch card?--Rodolphus 17:47, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Albeit the card never tells us she was a Hag, I think this can be inferred by her true physical appearance, shown on the picture. Also, numerous Hags are featured on Chocolate Frog Cards (Old Mother Hubbard, Babayaga, Cordelia Misericordia, etc.) --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 18:05, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

To my knowledge, Hags were only shown in a special famous Hag card series in the third game.--Rodolphus 18:08, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Granted, but we have nothing to support she was a witch, as nothing tells us that the cards feature only wizards/witches and the text on her card does not refer to her to a witch (simply says "Inventor of many love potions."). Well, magical liquids can change skin colours. Derwent Shimpling´s skin became purple after eating a venomous tentacula. For me, te existance of seperate Giant/ Hag/Vampire/Goblin series is enough evidence. May I suggest creating Behind the Scenes sections for Laverne, Honoria Nutcombe , and Idris Oakby? Well that seems the best thing to do. But as Shimpling became famous just because his skin colour became purple, I believe this does not happen often, and if it did in this case it would be mentioned on the Cards. The Chocolate Frog Cards include a "Famous Hags" series, and as this character's card isn't a part of it, I think it's safe to say she was a witch. Her skin could've been discoloured by dragon pox, which left Elphias Doge with a "pockmarked visage and greenish hue" (DH2), or by some other means. More likely, though, the green skin is simply artistic license on the part of the card's artist, intended to humourously depict the effect of a love potion.

Also, Shimpling didn't become famous for turning purple, but as a comedian who "wizards and witches everywhere [loved for] his silly sense of humor and his boldness."[1] Eating a Venemous Tentacula was an example of that daring attitude and presumably only enhanced his already-existing fame.

In real life, there's a medical condition called argyria, in which a person's skin permanently turns blue due to their having ingested or inhaled large quantities of silver over a prolonged period (usually as a result of working in a silver factory or taking some type of alternative/home remedy containing silver). ★ Starstuff ^{(Owl me!)} 02:04, December 23, 2009 (UTC)
