- I think this is a good idea. The etymology of Hogsmeade is likely derived from mǽd, the Old English word for meadow, and could easily be called such because it was founded in a meadow outside the boundries of Hogwarts. Phoenixdaisy (talk) 06:40, July 27, 2016 (UTC)

Establishment Date and Appearance/Climate[]
I just thought I should point out that, in the Hogwarts Legacy trailer , we see a sign above the entrance to Hogsmeade that says it was established in 914 A.D (1:26).
Also, it shows a Hogsmeade that is not covered in snow, as is the case with the movies and the set designers' decision that it's located "permanently above the snow line". I know the game has yet to release, but should either depiction of Hogsmeade be considered a higher tier of canon than the other? The movies are more prominent with more involvement from Rowling, but the game is much more recent, and thus there's the potential for this to be a retcon or being a more accurate portrayal than in the movies. The films are higher canon than the games. However, if I remember correctly, in the books and on Pottermore, it is not above the snowline, so the fim's depiction is not canon either.
About Hogsmeade's founding: We know that Hengist attended Hogwarts from Pottermore (highest canon) and that Hogwarts was founded around thousand years ago, exact date unknown. The question is: Would around 1078 years at least still be considered around 1.000 years ago? I personally would say yes, so this date would be canon. Or... I think the film's timeline placed the school's founding in the latr 900s, which would make it non-canon. The books never addressed the climate in Hogsmeade that I can remember, I always took that to mean it was the same as the school. If it rains at Hogwarts, it rains in Hogsmeade since it's walking distance away. The thing about the snow line was a creative liberty by the people who made the movies, I think the video game might actually be closer to the book. Surely, if there was always snowy in Hogsmeade in the books, it'd be mentioned somehow. Tfoc (talk) 12:58, October 9, 2020 (UTC)
Hogwarts Legacy question[]
I noticed that there's an article for "Hogsmeade Graveyard" on the WIKI, and that there's a spot in this article for "communal areas" like the square, but in the game, in addition to the "High Street" in Hogsmeade being divided into "Lower High Street" where you enter the village by the bridge and walk uphill, and "Upper High Street" at the shops on top of it, there's other places too, like "Hog's Head Alley", "River's Edge", etc. Will these small, non-communal areas be covered too?
