Is it sure that Hermione invented the spell? I don´t think that.--Rodolphus 18:18, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Doesn't it say that right in the book when Harry learns it from her? 22:23, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Here's what it says in the Bloomsbury edition, Chapter 31, page 529, lines 2 to 7: "He had soon mastered the Impediment Jinx, a spell to slow down and obstruct attackers, the Reductor curse, which would enable him to blast solid objects out of his way, and the Four-Point Spell, a useful discovery of Hermione's which would make his wand point due north, therefore enabling him to check whether he was going in the right direction within the maze." Now, it all depends on how to interpret "discovery of Hermione's". I believe that she found it, if she had invented the spell, I think it would read something like "creation of Hermione's". Yeah, because the Polyjuice Potion was also a "discovery" of Hermiones in their second year, she didn't invent it but she discovered it and found a use for it. I'm not sure, but I doubt she was the first person to think of using a wand as a compass so I'm sure she just probably discovered it in a book Patr0nus Ginny Patronus ( Expecto Patronum! ) 22:46, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Does this mean the main text in the article should be changed them? I mean, confirming she just found it, she didn't invent it. There are a couple articles in which this spell is referred to as one of her creations. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 22:52, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
While it's possible to take "discovery" as meaning "invention," I think we should err on the side of caution, given the ambiguity of the word. Ron and Hermione both helped Harry prepare for the Third Task, and Hermione might have done research, and found this spell in a book. Starstuff (Owl me!) 04:25, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, everyone who wanted to object had their chance, so I'll change the article accordingly. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 00:05, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Point Me as a Locator spell?

I wonder if Point me can be used to point toward a certain object ("Point me Gringotts Bank" will make the wand point in the direction of said location), like Accio can be instructed to summon a certain object? Per Ankh, now owner of the TDC wiki. 05:39, October 13, 2011 (UTC)
