Relation of Mrs. Dursley and Harry Potter[]

I have no idea why this keeps saying Harry Potter is this women's great- nephew! Harry is not related to Mrs. Dursley. And it keeps saying that she is the great- nephew. If anyting he would be more like and adopted grandson!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hufflepuff2414 (talkcontribs).

The son of her son's sister-in-law makes Harry this woman's great-nephew by marriage. Hunnie Bunn (talk) 19:19, May 6, 2014 (UTC)

So I guess Harry is her great- nephew in- law. Interesting..... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hufflepuff2414 (talkcontribs).

Well Vernon is Harry's uncle by marriage but you don't call him his uncle-in-law. Just as Dudley is her grandson, Harry is her great-nephew.

I just looked up Harry and Mrs. Dursley's exact relation on Ancestry.com (Sorry, I had to), it says that Mrs. Dursley is Harry's mother- in- law of aunt. Hufflepuff2414 (talk) 17:47, May 7, 2014 (UTC)Hufflepuff2414

Yes, she is Petunia's mother-in-law but she is Harry's great-aunt on Vernon's side.

Harry is the biological nephew of Petunia Dursley, because of the marriage he is also the nephew of Vernon, so he can maximum be the nephew-in-law for Marjorie Dursley, but I doubt that such a term does exist.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 13:16, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Nephew-in-law would apply for your niece's spouse. Likewise one's neice-in-law is the spouse of their nephew. Ginny Weasley became the neice-in-law to Petunia and Vernon by marring their nephew Harry Potter.

The official definition of grand-nephew is: "a son of one's nephew or niece; grandson of one's brother or sister", as found here. As Harry is not a grandson of one Vernon's uncles or aunts (he's only related to Vernon through Petunia!) he is not Mrs. Dursley's grandnephew. He is her son's wife's nephew and nothing more. Now that I think it over, that does sound right. So just as Marjorie Dursley is no relative of Harry's, neither is her or Vernon's mother. I don't know why I thought otherwise.Jdogno7 (talk) 02:13, May 9, 2014 (UTC)

Exactly, she is Vernon and Marge's mother, Mr Dursley's wife, Petunia's mother-in-law, Dudley's grandmother, Dudley's wife's grandmother-in-law and great-grandmother to Dudley's children... and that is it. Only aunts and uncles of James and Lily would be great-uncles/aunts of Harry. HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 05:52, May 9, 2014 (UTC)
