Peltier is a variant of the old French "pelletier" meaning furier or furtrader [1] from the old French "pellet" meaning animal skin [2]. Pellet comes from the Latin "pellis" meaning pelt, hide or animal skin [3].

Famous namesake - Leonard Peltier, a member of the American Indian Movement who participated in Pine Ridge and either murdered or was framed for the murders of two FBI agents and Anna Mae Aquash. (Vaudree (talk) 04:49, December 6, 2015 (UTC))
