Nott's father Edit
Is it possible that this is Theodore Nott's father? He (Nott's dad) became a Death Eater in 1955, and Cantankerus wrote the Pure-Blood Directory in the 1930s. They have the same surname, are both pure-blood, and writing a pure blood directory is the sort of thing a Death Eater would do, isn't it? Hunnie Bunn (talk) 20:36, September 21, 2012 (UTC)
It's possible, because we don't know when Nott was born. However, I doubt it. He attended Hogwarts at the same time as Tom Riddle. and was about as old as him as well. His earliest year he can have attended the school is 1919, in which he would have is final year by 1926 when Riddle starts attending. And even if he had been that much older, (which is unlikely due to the fact that he attended a meeting at the Slug Club when Riddle was in his fifth or sixth year), he would have graduated in 1936, and I can't imagine Nott publish a Pure-Blood Directory before he turned seventeen. He would be legally adult by the time he graduated, and the book was written at the early 1930's, so this might be his father. Unless that Nott shown in the Pensive in book six was some younger brother of his we don't know about, which I doubt due to the serious lack of canon facts to back up that theory, we can therefore assume that Cantankerus might be his father.
(It is also possible that if Cantankerus is indeed Nott, he could have been a year or two older than Riddle, since the latter "by no means was the oldest in the group". That would mean that he would go his sixth or seventh year when Riddle remained after the Slug Club meeting to ask about Horcruxes, which makes it even more unlikely that it is the same man, User:Simen Fagerli
