Surname[]

Longbottom?! We do NOT know that Uncle Algie's surname is Longbottom; it is likely something else. Neville Longbottom was raised by his paternal grandmother, and it is likely that Uncle Algie is her brother THEREFORE having a surname other than Longbottom. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.225.144.184 (talkcontribs).

This is a good point if your assertions about relations are right, O Signature-Disregarder. I don't know if they are and I am too lazy to go look it up. Ashleyy {owl?} 21:17, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Algador[]

Here it says someone called Algador Longbottom is speaking. I'm pretty sure that's still Algie. Randomno 18:15, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

That is fanfiction and therefore, not canon. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 18:19, July 29, 2011 (UTC)
Is it? Oh, right. Randomno 08:11, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

Criminal[]

Don't you think it's strange that he didn't go to Azkaban or at least get arrested for attempting to murder his nephew? Because that's pretty much what he was doing. I don't know exactly what the deal is with Algie since he never appeared in the books, but he sounds like a death eater at best given what he did to his own nephew. Personality?????[]

Why isn't there a personality section? Like, shouldn't be considered cruel for wantnf to let Neville die?? BirdOfBlueFeathers22 (talk) 05:58, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

That is not really confirmed that he was cruel and willing to let him die though I can see why it can be misconstrued that way given the things he did to try to see if he was a wizard or not. Andrewh7 (talk) 06:16, 6 November 2023 (UTC) Andrewh7
I would have to agree that labelling him "cruel" is a comment not supported in the text, meaning it probably does not fit a neutral point of view. In addition I think you have misinterpreted the text in thinking that Algie wanted Neville to die or meant him harm, as I think it's more accurate to say that Algie wanted Neville to display magical powers, although very recklessly it seems. RedWizard98 (talk) 19:10, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

Wanting him display powers by trying to kill him? There's a difference between reckless and putting someone else in mortal peril without any concern for their own safety. BirdOfBlueFeathers22 (talk) 22:03, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

It would be cruel if he could't do anything to save him before he died, but they're wizards, he can stop any harm from happening to him if he didn't displayed any magical talent. Have you read the books? wizards are very lax about injuries (ex. Quidditch).  Silver  Discusión  22:09, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
The text never says anything about Algie wanting to kill Neville. He simply wanted to force him to display magical powers when he least expected it, it just seems that his methods were too extreme. If Angie thought in his heart that Neville would survive due to his magic, then that's clearly not an attempt to kill him. There is no evidence in the text that him or anyone else in the Longbottom family meant Neville harm - he even gifted the Mimbulus Mimbletonia to Neville on his birthday, showing he obviously had affection for his nephew. Not everything has to be taken too literally. RedWizard98 (talk) 01:20, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
