Syrup of Hellebore was a blue-coloured substance extracted from the Hellebore.[3] It was used in potion-making, and was a required ingredient of the Draught of Peace,[3] and Volubilis Potion.[1] It was also required in Potion No. 86, which was likely an experimental mixture. It was presumably poisonous, given how the Hellebore plant itself was highly poisonous and that Potion No. 86 was also highly poisonous.[2]

History[]

During the 1988–1989 school year, Jacob's sibling grabbed some Syrup of Hellebore for Penny Haywood after Herbology class to help her brew some Draught of Peace.[5]

In September 1995, during his first fifth-year Potions lesson, Harry Potter failed to brew the Draught of Peace correctly by forgetting to add Syrup of Hellebore to his potion. Professor Severus Snape reprimanded Harry for his mistake and vanished his potion as a result.[3]
